These batteries were not IMR, correct? They were protected batts?

That's correct nebulas. A genuine AW IMR battery (LiMn, not Li-Ion) cannot vent with flame. And it takes a much higher temperature than with Li-Ion batts to get an AW IMR to vent at all. In which case, it would simply vent gases. Venting AW IMRs are very, very rare...and if it happens, it cannot vent with flame.

So you're safe with AW IMR. For best results, use one in a single-battery device which is also vented. And of course, make sure you're buying genuine AW IMR's...if in doubt, you can always contact AW directly on the Candlepowerforums to see if your source is an authorized AW reseller. Note: you do need to register with the forum to send PM's there etc.

Thanks! Yes, I have always been extra cautious with my batteries. When looking at mods I always look first for single battery operation, vent hole, and short circuit protection which is why I have a Provari and I only buy batteries from Provape because I know I can trust they are selling the real deal.

I have also been planning to upgrade my charger for about the last year for safety reasons. This story reminded me how dangerous batteries can be and motivated me to order that Pila charger.

What type of battery was it? Ive recently bought a mod requiring 18350's, How long will a pair last me? will i need spares in the day?

James I gave you the answers to those questions buddy :)

Batts of any type shouldn't be carried loosely in your pockets, purses, anywhere and should be kept in the small plastic cases they sell for dirt cheap, period, the cases stop them from coming in contact with anything that could complete a circuit as well as protects the outer wrapper.
