I got a 26g z coil in there with some effort but no biggie. Its easier with 29g.
the reason I say set up for a side mounted coil is, the most flavor and least harsh vapor will come from having the coil right at the air inlet, less than a mm distance away, this gives the incoming airflow a jet stream that hits the coil and extracts the best flavor without adding any harshness to the vape... if the air is allowed to enter the chamber and expand and lose velocity before hitting the coil, or if it doesn't actually even hit the coil and just extracts vapor from the chamber this will add harshness and throat hit to the vape.
just about every really great tasting, high flavor profile atty will follow this rule. the kayfuns have become wildly popular because of the incredible amount of flavor they give without any harshness, and they do this by having the air inlet right below the coil, then the air outlet right above the coil... this creates a slip stream flow of laminar air around the coil and straight out the drip tip, extracting the best flavor. most side air hole atties like this are already at a disadvantage because of the fact that the airflow is more like an L, it must bend from inlet to exit, and the coil being so far inboard really takes it out of the main airflow stream, your only extracting vapor from the chamber and not directly from the coil. it does make a big difference. if you look at what are regarded as the best tasting atties you'll see that they virtually all follow this design. tiny chamber combined with jet stream of air right on the coil. a larger chamber reduces velocity and reduces peak flavor and adds harshness as a general rule.
I've used my chalice with a Z coil and a side mounted one and honestly, for me the side coil tastes much better and has no harshness that the z coil does give. if you really want to see then try it, 2 same exact coils, but one mounted right at the airhole and the other mounted far away like the z... pay attention to sweetness and harshness and you will see what I'm talking about... now I'm not talking about a night and day difference here, the difference is fairly subtle but it is def there and it's def a difference for the better with the jetstream of inlet hitting the coil directly. everything else remains the same, chamber size and center drain, everything works just as well with a side coil as the z, just flavor is improved. to me all it really needs is a little difference in the posts, allowing more flexibility in the builds
that is the chalice...
I'm not complaining or anything, I'll still take the chalice just the way it is, but since it was asked what I would change, that would be it, if not I'm still very happy with it even as-is
If Chalice III will be made, definitely introduce new outer shape/design. While this would be a least functional change but the eye candy factor goes long way since we look at them all day long. Of course, this would also include the shined finish option.
Z coil is awesome to vape but not fun to build with current post design. Two main challenges with current post design, inserting of second Z coil leg and dealing with the tiny screws. As I have mentioned previously, slotted post with a cap will solve both issues. Instead of tiny screw, make the thread outside of the post and use a threaded thumb cap to "cover" the slotted post and secure the leg. Similar to Origen RDA center post design, but with slotted post. This would eliminate the need for tiny screw (and screw driver) and making Z coil super easy.
Current top cap design creates smaller chamber for an intense flavor. However, the 'ceiling' inside the cap is cut flat. This creates an area for condensation to build up. Instead of flat 'ceiling', how about a curved ceiling to make the condensation slide down easier. I have noticed lot more "gunk" building up inside the cap than other RDAs and I think the flat ceiling is the cause. Kayfun, GG, GP all use the "cone" shaped ceiling and they are pretty effective.
If new drip tips are to be released, consider offering drip tips with built-in delrin insulator. Current drip tip does get quite a bit warm if I am chain vaping and having the insulator would eliminate this.
Adjustable airflow would be a nice feature, but not critical. If you look at the usage pattern of RDA, adjustable airflow is important for folks running low resistances. People who are buying Chalice isn't looking to blow big cloud. (can't even do dual coil). Hence, if the stock air hole is sized properly (ex. 1/16), I think the adjustable airflow might not be as critical.
And lastly, some free decals.![]()
I have been wanting a Chalice for a long time but they never seem to be in stock. Anyone know when the next run will be? All I want is just one.

I am ready to buy and have cash in hand. When will the next units be available for sale? I have avoided posting this question in this thread for fear of looking stupid but I have missed the last couple of sales and when one comes up in the Classified I never can catch it. No making fun of me please.....![]()
