Cheap Charger/Batteries?

I'm finally jumping into Mec mods after being smoke free for about 2 months now. I am going to be using a Nemesis clone and a stillare clone to start out with but I won't be doing any crazy low ohm builds as a beginner. I'll stick or something reasonable like .6 or so and higher.

After adding everything up the cost is starting to jump up there even using clones. I have an old trustfire charger that I was hoping to use but I see some warnings on some vendor sites that say don't use the cheap chargers!! Obviously I don't want to spend the money just for it to be thrown away or having something that is dangerous around. How much of a difference is there between the Efest batteries and the sony's that a beginner would notice? Is safety the main concern when using the Efest batteries? Like I said I won't be doing any crazy builds to try to push the limits or anything like that.

I'm just trying to get my feet wet without throwing a ton of money at this right off the bat but obviously I want the stuff to function properly. After the mod itself, the ohm reader I'm sitting at just under $100. If I go with the Sony VTC batteries and a "good" charger I'm going to be pushing $130-140.

Would really appreciate some insight!

Yes safety first. The Sony batteries are rated for 30 amp draws and Efest may make some as well but havent seen any. Whatever batteries you choose a good charger is key to the life of the batteries. Nitecore I2 chargers are the best I know of and arent much more than the cheapies. They can be found on ebay for $15 and I see them at local vendors for around $20 usually. Invest in good gear and it will serve you well.

First of all, batteries are the last place you want to skimp to save money. They are the power plant to your entire setup. They are also potentially the most dangerous item in your setup. SAFETY should be your number one priority. Don't be fooled by the inflated mah and amp ratings of some of the lesser battery manufacturers.

Purchase the right battery for your intended application. If you are going to be doing ANY sub-ohm coils, use a 30 amp battery for a margin of extra safety. Bottom line: Use only IMR or IMR/hybrid batteries. Protected ICR (Li-ion) batteries are obsolete for mod use.

High quality batteries deserve a high quality charger. Statistically, most battery incidents occur while the battery is charging. A poor quality charger will likely take twice as long to charge batteries as a higher quality charger. The top chargers have more actually useful functions than a cheap charger will. Automatic shutoff after a full charge, the ability to revive an over-discharged battery, displaying the battery voltage as the battery charges, etc.

Xtar, Pila, Xtar, and Efest are well-recognized brand names for chargers.

The counterfeit battery trade is alive and well, and allegedly getting worse. Disreputable distributors are buying reject or old used battery cells for cheap and re-wrapping them to appear like popular brand name batteries. Profit margins can be as high as 90% for the fakes, and the customer ends up with a potentially dangerous battery.

For peace of mind and safety, purchase only from reputable vendors who can verify their source directly from the manufacturer. RTD Vapor, Illumination Supply, and Orbtronics are the more common vendors that we use. Buying from the Chinese vendor Alibaba, Ebay, or Amazon is a poor idea.

You can save a little on the intellicharger v2 and v4 on fasttech.com. Compared to the prices down the street from me, the v2 is about $5 cheaper and v4 is $9 cheaper. You'll wait a bit for it, but it's worth it if you order a mechanical mod or battery too. Great prices on rebuildables and mod clones. apv,s too! Shipping is free, but don't order batteries from them. The batteries will take forever to arrive! I mean it! Because I haven't got mine yet after 2 months!! My packages from them sent through usps/Malaysia arrived in a week 1/2 to 2 weeks. I bought my batteries for $12-16 from the vape shop down the street.
