Checked my bank statement an hour ago.....I'm OK.....but it lit a fire under my .... to check my statement(s) more often than I do!!
Bottom line....regardless of how much "protection" you THINK you might have on your personal information....there are ways for the unscrupulous to obtain it.....BE DILIGENT! STAY SAFE!!
Happy (vaping) Trails!

Two charges for 9.84 on my card...one from Feosac.com and another from onwsac.com. Went to both their websites and they are exactly the same page with a different name...no services for sale only a phone number and a contact email...the prefix on the number isn't even a US number. Check your accounts folks there is a huge scam going on right now. Account closed and new card on the way here...did a google search on these sites and thousands of folks have been compromised by these 2 companies. What a bunch of scumbags...

edit...both these charges were on 12-20-13 with in minutes of each other

>.< You probably shouldn't have done that.

A good portion of fraud is a result of malware on computers that record what you type. For those of you that are seeing these charges, you need to run scans on your machines, and not with just one program. Malwarebytes is an excellent malware scanner that can be used in addition to whatever you may be using. I highly suggest its use.

this was not caused by malware or a keylogger. I'm running Malwarebytes and Kaspersky 365 with real time monitoring. This is the first time in 13 years my credit card/debit card info was stolen.

I did not say the ongoing spate of compromises were caused just by malware. However, going to the fraudulent sites in question could very well be hazardous to the health of your PC. And for those that aren't running multiple scans, they should.

I've also fixed far too many machines over the past 30 years that were supposedly "virus free".

I will talk with my IT guru brother in law. I did what you suggested Retired. I use Norton 360 and the program you suggested found over 50 things. Might not be "the cause" but it certainly is a good start. The threat it found started with PuP. if that makes any sense to you tech guys.

Norton is an ok program, but too much slips by. I would look into getting something that is better. I'm sure Retired and others can point you to a much better program. I do believe Avast(?) is great and free.

 What I use for my day-to-day computing would cause most users to flee in terror.

Slackware derivative for my OS.
ClamAV for daily Anti-Virus
No Java
Plus the usual "required" plugins for FireFox.

Of course, there are other malware tools that are run on a regular basis as well, especially those that are specially created to sniff out root kits.

Now, for the odd times I'm in Windows, I generally rely on Microsoft Security Essentials (it's free) as well as Malwarebytes. There are other tools I run as well. And, as with my Linux installations, no java.

Oh, man, +1 for Slackware, that brings back some fond memories.

These days, I have a work machine that runs a work installed OS (guess which) and a game machine to game on. I've had the wife on Ubuntu for years and all of her computing 'problems' magically went away the same time I converted her :)

On topic, I am absolutely astounded to hear folks in this day and age actually using bank/debit cards online  I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. I realize some may have to but, man, is that scary stuff.

I actually got dinged with this scam too.... same amount from a similarly named website (same scumbags).

This also had nothing to do with Target. I never used this particular card (already replaced), other than a few purchases where they merchant didn't take Discover. I've seen people mentioning this scam in a few different places, so it has to be a MASSIVE one.... going off the rarity of this card being used, I suspect it was a blind, random number scan.

I do... but I do so smartly... the card I use is attached to an account that isn't my main one... I only put enough money in to cover whatever purchase is made. Provided it doesn't lead to some sort of identity theft (which would mean my bank was the source of the personal information)... if someone does get the number somehow they aren't going to get very much and I don't have a bunch of cash tied up while the bank investigates.

Another option that I use is those refillable, pre-paid credit cards. If you find one without a fee, pick it up and fill it when you want to use it.... if anyone 'steals' the number, they'd only get a few cents.

But yeah, using your a card attached to your PRIMARY bank account is kind of tickling the dragon.

I'm clean so far but will keep checking. For those that got hit, I hope you get it fixed. Thanx to the OP for posting!!

My bank said they'd handle it.... This is probably one of many from the same source, so I don't suspect it'll stay on my account for very much longer.

I have been running Norton for 8 years and never have had a problem with malware. Work computers they try and use cheap free ones and it is an everyday struggle with malware....
