Sandy, I am so sorry. Don't give up. Drs don't know everything. They told me after I fractured my pelvis I would always have to use a cane. I don't need one I walk just fine. Your like me Sandy, your lucky. Lucky to be alive, lucky to feel pain. I'm betting you will be able to saddle Penny on your own, I'm betting you will be able to ride again. Just gotta "Cowgirl Up" like we used to say on the rodeo circuit.
I can see a teenage girl wearing your hair going to what maybe her first and only prom with a handsome young man. What a gift you are giving. HUGS !!! Take care of you and keep me posted of your progress.
That's right - they don't. They told us almost 5 years ago that my dad only had a year to live. He's doing great.

i think i've decided on the place to send my hair -- Pantene Beautiful Lengths: Donate Hair for Cancer Patient Wigs

they will take hair with a small amount of gray in it. there's a hairdresser in town, within walking distance, in fact, that i'll call tomorrow. i'm sure they'll cooperate, even if they don't have a program for hair donations in place. i can send my hair to pantene myself. the hairdresser can bind it up in a ponytail for me so it's ready to go. i'll get the haircut before going into the hospital.

saturday, my stepmother, who is actually more like my big sister, is coming to stay with us to help out. she's bringing her cat. tom will have a fit. he's already bent out of shape about my arm. when i'm lying down, he heads straight for it, and of course i shoo him away from it. he's also very underfoot. he knows something is wrong with me, and it's making him insecure.

tomorrow, i go to the hospital for some tests. a friend will drive me there and back. this morning, bill took me to the doctor, and this friend drove me home. we stopped for lunch on the way home, which was nice. i like eating out, and it meant no one-handed food prep at home.

Twilight Zone
thanks for the pep talk. i decided to donate my long hair to a charity that makes wigs for people who need them. now to find a local salon that participates. bedhead look sounds good about now.

Great Clips cut mine, processed it and sent it to Locks of Love. 7 pony tails. Here they have a person who specializes in donated hair. Don't know if you've got Great Clips where you live.

great minds think alike. i did some research online, and locks of love throws out more donated hair than they use. some of the other charities that do this sound more hopeful. i'll research who would take my hair and hope the hairdresser knows how to do it correctly. off to do more research.

They don't really throw it out. They sell what they can't use on Ebay at a cheap rate and use the money to fund manufacture.

Such a considerate thing that you're doing, Sandy. Doesn't surprise me at all. :)

Good luck with your tests tomorrow!

So sorry to read you are going though all this "Sandy", however I am even happier to know you have decided to do something good about a "bad" situation . . . besides "Locks of Love" - Pantene is an excellent company and is a very good choice . . . BRAVO & KUDOS to "YOU ! ! ! :D

Now just for a little info, as some people already know I have 4 state Cosmetology licenses and have cut hair for many years (besides all the other jobs I have had too). I have had the privilege a number of times to do this for a few Women/Men who have unselfishly decided - as you have - to help someone else who has lost their hair for health reasons . . . I wish I was somewhere close enough to you to help and have this done correctly . . . However, since I am not, when you go to the Hairstylist/Cutter (if they have not done this before) you want to make sure that the hair is usable and the hair length that is being cut off is at a minimum 8" before they cut your hair . . . Here is a link to the instructions and what needs to be done from the Pantene website: How To Make The Cut

Also, I would suggest that you make sure after the hair is wash/conditioned - that they secure the ponytail with coated rubber-bands at both ends (and if possible in-between) . . . and then after the hair is cut (which should be done wet right after it's been shampooed/conditioned) that you let the ponytail air dry totally before placing in an airtight zip-lock bag to be shipped to the company . . . I would even suggest to place the ponytail on some paper towels to absorb any extra moisture that might be left and make sure it is dry before placing in the plastic bag . . .

NOW - I hope everything works out and YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR NEW LOOK . . . Hey, if I remember correctly you have some really nice wavey/curly hair - bet the new look will be GREAT ! ! ! AND - Don't forget "Pictures" so we can see how BEAUTIFUL YOU WILL BE LOOKING ! ! ! :D

Oh - I'm okay now, and THANKS for asking . . . the only really bad thing that happened, besides the nausea/migraine headache/dizzieness/shakes/etc., is I went back to smoking full-time . . . I needed some time to recoup without out being as frustrated about not having equipment that could leak too . . .

AND - Now with the help of a very good friend who is working on something to assist me get back to vaping . . . I've already started back on the "Transition into the World of Vaping" again . . .

Good Friday morning. Coffee ready and waiting. Help yourself, everyone. :)

Oh, thank you Lilac!

Big storm moving in. It's incredibly dark here for almost ten in the morning. In the woods, when a storm rolls in it looks like night. Love it, love it, love it!

Well, Uncle, Rave didn't really say that I was "okay." What she said was, "Once you get to know him, you'll understand completely." It could just be that the three of us are nuts that fell out of the same tree.

Thanks so much Rave. I'm going to take a nap and then try to get in touch with Kon. One more question--Does anyone know if Box Elder was a supplier of nic liquid or a vendor like SI is?
Already addressed!

i, too, think you should keep the new horses separated from yours. and be prepared for all the horses to get sick, especially if they are close enough to touch noses over a fence. but some illnesses can be airborne so it's best if the 2 herds are even more separated. strangles is extremely contagious. if you suspect tat disease, you must tend to your herd first, then the sick or exposed horses. then decontaminate your clothes and footwear before leaving the sick horse area. yes, it can be tracked to other areas on your shoes. penny was at a barn where a new horse came down with strangles. because of careful precautions, not a single other horse got it. the barn owner had the new horse separated, and she put on a jumpsuit over her clothes whenever she entered his stall to treat him. she also had a footbath of disinfectant she stepped into when leaving his stall. she wore rubber gloves when hsndling him. i didn't get too close lest i might transmit it to penny, but some online research will tell you what to do. if the sick horse gets an oozing sore under his jawbone, it's strangles. it's usually not fatal if it does spread to the other horses, but i've read about a form called ....... strangles that is more serious because the infection is internal.

strongyles is a kind of worm horses get. deworming the horses probably took care of it. it can be transmitted to your horses from hay fed on the ground that might be contaminated with manure. and resistant strains of these worms are developing in places so you need to not deworm horses unless it's necessary. at the farm where i board penny, we do fecal tests to see which horses have a worm load worth addressing, and just those horses are treated.

shipping fever is equine flu, i think, which is like a bad cold.

i'm sending place-selling vibes. in fact, i'm also sending horse-get-well vibes.
Oh hugs to you SandySu! Yes, I'd read a little this summer when it first hit. Our filly had it and is doing great. There were a few that broke open in huge holes under the mane, one low on the shoulder - he's at the guy's house doing well. There were a couple that had the BAD strangles - I think that's the one that opens internally. It's lookin' like the big fella I've been watchin has the the "flu".
There's a barn seperatin the herd from my kids so that would help w/ direct contact. Up a creek regarding the airborne ...
For fencing an area next spring - I've been wondering how wide an area I should have w/o loosin all the good grass! 5 / 10 / 20 feet?
If it has to be big I hope my bro will consider giving me a hand to move the current fence inward so mine could reach the best grass!
(He doesn't have much time for horses - little patience)

now for bad news about my broken shoulder. on wednesday, i go into the hospital for an operation to put a plate into my upper arm that will hold the 2 pieces together. this is scary, but not as scary as the news that, even with the operation, i may never have full range of motion in that arm. if i don't get the operation, i may never be able to raise my arm higher than my shoulder. if i do get the operation. i'll be able to touch the top of my head. i'll need physical therapy afterwards. i'm hoping if i really work at it, i may someday be able to reach up over my head to a high shelf. of course, this may mean that i can't saddle penny w/o help. or maybe i can stand on a stool or the mounting block. or maybe this means i should give up riding and just go to the barn and pamper penny. after all, she isn't totally sound now. maybe it's time for us both to retire. i guess i'll wait and see how it goes, how i feel about it when the arm heals and i could ride again.

i have very long hair, and i'm thinking of getting it cut. then i could care for it w/o help while i heal. this will be traumatic for me. i've had long hair for years and years, but i think it makes sense. you may think worrying about my hair at a time like this is silly, but it'll be such a change. i guess this will be a time of changes for me.
I presume your talkin' the 10th for the surgery. Ok - I understand your dilemma. I hope this doesn't make it harder but - After years of wantin to grow mine out, I finally figured out the problem was our water and got it almost to the waist. I kept a bit of fluff in front. Yes, soft layering around the face seems to be an auto face lift. But I still ended up wearing it in a half pony 98% of the time after I gave in and had it cut to shoulder length bcs I'd been so rough all summer w/ a remodeling project. Personally - I have regretted it every day since (it's about 11 months).
My thing is - I have to keep the ears covered. Lost several layers of skin as a dumb teen riding 1/2 mile on a cold windy Jan day to meet a friend for a stupid stinky. I've read most women do better if they can gradually go shorter over a period of time - like 4-5 inches every couple months. I think I would possibly wait til after the surgery. Perhaps if it gets down to brass tacks - you could go in 1 time a week to have it washed and braided. Keep a supply of Nexus Humectress in spray bottle (none refillable) handy to mist and smooth in between. Maybe some detangler from the pet section til you heal. Worry about the silicon later. Infusium 23 is great on MANES! Just let your braid hang down your back or over your shoulder. Perhaps you could get a SATINy 'tail' sack to cover and protect your braid - one with a loop at the opening to 'hook' over one of those pony holders that has the marble ends. Think Biker Chick! Sorry I can't recall the name they have for them. Some are leather to keep the wind from whipping while out on the motor cycle. Perhaps braiding it into a long scarf / ribbon ... Heck - talk to a beautician - them might have more / better ideas! Ok - knowing I'm biased(!) hope that helps somehow!

No Sandy I didn't mention strangles regarding the poor mare at your stables, that was Kicco's horse rescue situation. I suggested that your rescue could have an abcessed tooth or teeth,vitamin/mineral deficits as reasons for her cribbing. I hope your barn owner helps her to,poor baby.
How are you feeling? Has your surgery been scheduled yet?
Yup that was me on strangles. I was thinkin vita/mineral too - but left that alone - you two are definitely far more the expert here! Do those Vita/mineral hanging apples work? Saw them here on clearance ...

I saw that about Gourmet Vapor to. So glad that they got banned from ECF they should have been. Bet they are still in business somewhere though not here, but somewhere.
Just hope they didn't reopen under a different name w/ same poor practices ...

I think your being too hard on yourself. The company you got your vapes from being a sister co. of Box Elder and Gourmet Vapes well I don't see how it could be your fault. There's a connection there.
Where's that "What She Said" button! Glad your doing better 2Tone!

SandySu, miracles happen every day, and I believe that how much you regain of your range of motion will depend on how diligently you work at it. Besides, you still have your OTHER arm! ;) So cheer up - it coulda been a lot worse! You'll have to make a few adjustments, but I'm sure you'll be back to your old life in no time!

And short hair is a lot of fun! I just cut mine to that "bedhead" look (sorta like Halle Berry's). Now I get up, mess it up even more, spritz with a little hair spray, and go! So much more carefree than dealing with all that hair every morning! Plus it makes you look 10 years younger! :thumb:
Sounds fun - but I know I'd be freezing! Already am - it's a balmy 41 up here right now! brr! Had a shot of brandy to warm up last night!

By the way, Uncle, all kidding aside, I wish you the best luck with vaping this time. I remember reading your posts a while ago when you talked about your disappointments and difficulties. I think a lot of people go back to smoking for the same reasons. It's unfortunate but that's what happens.

If there's anything I can do to help, don't hesitate to ask.

a mineralized salt block is an easier/cheaper option. all the horses should have access to a salt block all the time, winter and summer.

I have a non eCig question and need advice from all "YOU" Computer/Tech nerds (includes you "Konstantine") that concerns both the Samsung Galaxy III AND - the Motorola Xoom . . .

OKAY NOW - I was lucky enough to be able to get a totally free upgrade to this phone and need to get a new blue-tooth headset to go along with it . . . Right now, I have the original Jawbone (six years old now) which still works - not great and the ear piece keeps falling off (BTW: I can't use ear-buds). . . I was thinking another Jawbone, however there are now 3 different ones and I don't think I can afford either of them right now given their prices . . . I also did a search for suggestions and of course that got confusing, but one stood out that was the - Plantronics Voyager PRO HD Bluetooth Headset which of course is pricey . . . Hey - if I have too, I'll save up to get one, until then . . .

SO - What do other's think would be the most affordable and best Blue-tooth head set I can/should get to use both with the Samsung Galaxy III phone and to connect to a Motorola Xoom to use with the talk program too ;)

I look forward to your responses . . . THANKS :D
