She's very tolerant ...... even though he's already stolen her pillow.

DW: how did you miss the deep freeze!

It seems to me that one of the valuable things about playing video games is that they are a lot simpler and more direct than life. I can see tendencies I have to work inefficiently through problems much more clearly with video games, whereas in life, sometimes the complexities and emotions involved get in my way. If I see a tendency to, let's say, hastiness, then I can think how in real life, maybe I'm too hasty. That kind of thing. I also think it helps hone quick reactions, assessing the whole picture quickly, making a decision, and then going for it. Lots of my problems in video games are as a piece is falling, I'm mulling over all the possibilities and trying to decide where to put the piece, and too late, it fell in the wrong spot. I'm working on this one still …

The practice people get when playing games must be useful in life, even if they aren't thinking it through. It must come out on some visceral level, don't you think? For instance, your kids are learning to work through a difficult situation and not give up. Won't this help them in life? I think so.

Interesting perspective. I saw them as imagination killers / ADHD contributors (most reading material leaned that way too). Kids didn't seem able to "be constructive" - always had to be entertained. Perhaps that stemmed more from earlier life experience & emotional trauma.

I almost pulled the trigger on a provari a couple of weeks when they had a bunch go up in their scratch and dent section, in the end I couldn't do it. I get the samething out of my vamo for way less cash. I do keep getting tempted for the fact that they're tanks.
LOL I was close in November - then decided to wait for the mini Vector to be restocked. Alas- hay sales are keeping me well broke! Also realized I
am perfectly happy with the X2 for now.

Hi Deb! finally caught up from yesterday!
Juices: I think someone said sweet or dark ones gunk up the coils fairly quick. Dark and sweet seems more prone to do it closely followed by sweet but light colored. That's why I went to the mini vivi nova. Easy & quick to clean! However - having found a few light colored I may have to revisit the carto for the great outdoors! Loosing an e-cig is NOT the same as loosing a pack of stinkies!

Your definitely much braver than I! Could NEVER live in the boonies alone (car or no car)!
It is the pumpkin hour. Going to be an early morning... have a great day Deb!

SandySu : I'm surprised you don't have colder weather - your on the same line (longitude or latitude?) - must be the jet stream!
Sometimes the summer heat & humidity are a corker!

I've read that ADHD kids are particularly good at video games when they have problems in other areas of learning. I find this interesting. I'm no expert, and maybe I'm wrong, but if an ADHD kid is having problems in most areas of life but is really good at video games, then isn't it good that he/she can excel at something? It feels good to be really expert at something, and it boosts self-confidence in a kid who sorely lacks it. That's not to say that I think any kids should be spending every waking hour playing video games, but I don't think some time spent doing it is necessarily the precursor to the downfall of society. I think playing video games is probably better for a kid than spending the same time watching TV, since watching shows is more passive. With a game, the kid has to think and act on a decision, where with a TV show, it's completely passive.

In fact, the whole idea of computers is something people question. They say it isolates people, who sit at home on their computers rather than having face-to-face contact. I guess I'm preaching to the choir here, since we are all on our computers interacting with each other via the written word, but isn't this a good thing? When reading for pleasure, not just for information, became popular, couldn't people have criticized that for the same thing? Reading is generally considered a good thing nowadays, yet doesn't it isolate people even more than computers? There is no person-to-person interaction when you read a book, unless it's a kind of interaction with what the author says. And I think people who struggle to read will use a computer and be on a group like this, so they are getting practice reading and writing that they might not have if not for computers. Another really neat thing about computers is how it makes me think in broader terms. For instance, once I get used to a program I use, I find there is more than one way to do something. You can use the mouse and go up to the pull-down menu and click on what you want to do, or you can use the keyboard code to do it. As I got used to this, I find I use the mouse if my hand's on the mouse, and I use the keyboard if I'm typing. I love it when I see more than one way to achieve a result and decide which way suits me best. And I like knowing that others may choose a different method to get the same results. Whatever suits a certain personality is the way a person might decide to do something. I think having more choices to achieve a certain result must enhance creativity.

And what about the fact that kids these days can use cell phones better than us old fogies? If you don't know how to do something technical, go ask a teenager! As the world changes, and how we use technology in it changes, I think people resist change and to support their arguments, they select just the bad things and forget to look at the good things about it. I guess resisting change is part of growing old mentally. I hope to stay mentally young as long as I can.

Mine seem to last forever now too since I stopped worrying about cleaning so much. I just keep refilling them with the same juice (most of mine are light ones) and the minute I get that "burnt, dry" taste I switch to a different cart. I keep my little carto case filled for the day (with an extra X2 in the small case SI sells, all fits nice and snug) and I'm good for the day.
Not sure why they last so long but they are. I have a few carts with the "older" juices that I don't vape anymore stashed and am thinking of trying to boil them like I saw on a video and see how they do. I've heard they don't work very good once you do. I buy a 5 pack and it lasts me a long time.

DW: how did you miss the deep freeze!

Our "deep freeze" started last night. The wind was howling all evening. It is suppose to be in the 20s today and I think they said the high mid week will be 18. Yuck. Wish I was somewhere tropical. :2cool:

Sitting down, facing forward.
I think the major difference between reading a book and using a computer is the amount of imagination involved. With the graphics, action graphics, of a computer the amount of imagination required is kind of limited. As a child and teenager I did a lot of reading, everything from Tom Swift to Atlas Shrugged to the Bible and spent a lot of time at the library in the reference room going from one thing to the next as a topic lead me. While you can do similar things on a computer, kids seem prone to playing games or watching movies. The upside is it keeps them occupied, the downside is they are not using their imagination or learning anything.

The pervasiveness of computers and smartphones is really getting to be out of hand. We went to my daughters for Christmas and my grandkids were there along with some of their friends. My son-in-law announced that phones were prohibited from the dinner table. Of course, before we got done with dinner two of the younger folks had their smartphones out under the table texting away. When they were caught and the hones were "confiscated" by my son-in-law you'd have thought, by their behavior, that some horrendous act had been perpetrated on them that was beyond the realm of human behavior. These are what is considered today, I think, "normal" teenagers/young adults. Not a very good sign. It really sort of bothers me to be out to dinner at a restaurant or diner and see kids with their parents and the kids are oblivious to everything because they're on their smartphone or Gameboy and this seems to have become the norm.

I feel like I should hang my standard disclaimer after this one, LOL.

We're now getting what weather you had. This morning, high winds, and we're supposed to get more snow and colder weather. Right now, it's 40 degrees, and it's supposed to go down to 14 tonight. A good day to stay indoors, I think.

In yesteryear, before cell phones, I remember my family visiting me in California, and my teenage brother had his Walkman going with earphones in practically the whole time. Here we were in a new place he'd never been to, and he was tuning us and it out. Maybe teenagers just have to go off on their own like that, no matter what methods they use.

Must be the lighter colored juice! I would be happy w/ cartos too if they would last like that.
I think I've found a couple juices now that would be good candidates! Smoothol and Apple Breeze from SI; another similar RY from another guy!

Well said! While I agree w/ Sandy to a point - I had the same rule as the S-I-L: No phones at the table. Confiscation meant 24 hours - that finally got the point across. There has to be some time set aside to interact with family. The same rule held for the car. One bio-mom thought I was totally insane because I didn't allow 'precious' to play DVD's or tune out with the MP3. Sorry - but the BEST conversations happened in that car!
Later when they started thinking about driving (one could text w/ his phone in the pocket -at the table thot it rude at a restaurant) they were totally lost. No sense of where town "A" was in relation to town "B". It finally hit home when I asked what hiway we were on. No clue. If your girl called to say she was in Mankato, would you turn left or right to get there. He picked the wrong way. Other parents that had allowed their kids to be 'entertained' in the car complained of the same thing.

LOL! Looking forward to your pic being added!
The ride was in regard to the temperature roller coaster; 45 - 20 - 38 - 9 - minus 4 - 28 - 33 and who knows from there!
Umm - visit in later Sept! Mild temps - bugs might be gone - definitely NO humidity!

So! We are at a balmy minus 3 - heading lower tonight w/ Windchill WARNING of negative 25 to 40 til noon Monday.
The kids are tucked in w/ extra timothy-alfalfa mix for the day! Sadly have the 2 bullies (Molly & Sully) locked in a pen so the rest can stay inside out of the wind if they want. 5 buckets of water carried over so they should be good. I'm soooo very thankful the thaw melted most of the ice to make a snaking trail from the pumphouse to the barn door! The rest of the yard is iced w/ snow flurries creating an extra slick experience!

Have a good day! :D

That isn't yesteryear, yesteryear, to me, was before I got a transistor radio (first in the neighborhood to have one) and being able to listen to Yankee games while I mowed the lawn. If I used it around the family, let alone with an ear phone in (mono of course) it would have been taken away and never given back. I guess by todays standards my parents were cruel.

That is cold, Kico. Brrr.

Grab some coffee, we are having Sumatran. You are going to need the warmth.

I made sweet rolls yesterday and they didn't turn out at all. Turns out I got the dough too dry, I think. I haven't used this mixer to make bread until this year since for the last few years it was Hubby making the bread so I guess I am on a learning curve. The mixer is nice since you don't have to knead the bread on the counter for as long. I'll be trying it again today with my regular recipe. Let's hope this turns out okay since Hubby and I need sandwiches for our lunches:)

Stay warm, Kico.

Fortunately, although I do haul hot water out 2-3 times a day when it is cold out like this, I only have to haul out one or two buckets worth.

I've heard a variation on that saying: "Absence makes the heart go wander."

On the news, they said you got your share of winter weather recently. I pity you Southern folks who just aren't prepared for that kind of thing. Here, where we expect it, it's just another day in the life.
