Thank y'all for letting me rant and the words....

Dark, there are issues but I'll leave it at that. We have done what we can and I continue to do so.

Bianca, don't worry.. in just a few hours her brain will wire in the opening of most any door. It's magic and then all the sudden no child proofing, adult proofing, pet proofing works.. and then somehow the child finds a set of bumping keys that Lox inevitably left behind. It goes downhill and into the cookie jar quickly. -Magnus

For all my PIF friends, for the mommy's who have to let their babies grow up, the daddy's that teach their babies more than just languages, and the vets, who give so much. And for wonderwoman (aka Q4) for inspiring us all with her endless energy and for Lox, for whom Friday never comes fast enough. You all rock!

Good Morning, PIF -- Have a Great Monday!

Ps. pchela, you likely just broke off a piece of the temporary filling they put in between doing the root canal and placing the crown. Not a big deal.

I love it when people say stuff like that... I do it as often as possible. When I take anything apart I look for things not to put back together properly just so I can make a similar off-handed comment. When Doctors do it, it's ever funnier. -Magnus

Off to find a railing for Livi's rail-less crib...3am *THUD. pause. SCREAMING BABY*

Rhianna fell out of her crib quite a bit--and we never had a "rail-less crib." At 7 she still falls out of the bed. Of course she can (and has on more than one occasion) "trip" while sitting on the floor. She tripped and fell up a half a flight of stairs when she was two. She was not even twice as tall as the steps were high and she fell up eight of them. And she wasn't even heading toward the steps when she tripped.

Girl is so clumsy we lived in mortal fear that the pediatrician would call child services every time we took her to the doctor until she was five and we were comfortable that they knew how clumsy she is.

// rant
...
I get speaking a foreign language when it's unnecessary in front of other people is rude. However, this is a 3yo toddler trying to learn and wanting her father's help in figuring something out. I don't think it's unreasonable to take a minute and try to help Ceridwen figure out what she is trying to say and then say it ~in English~ so she learns the ~English~ way of saying it.

rant //

Not only is it not unreasonable, I think it is to be commended. If you understand what she is trying to say, anything you can do to help her learn how to communicate is your job as a parent.

Any parent would know that...

Yep. We never bothered to "child-proof" anything. At four months she could take her crib apart faster than Mama could. We simply taught her not to open any containers without one of us present and to not get under the cabinets under the sink at all. Worked a lot better than any of the childproofing any other parents we knew did.

Of course part of it is understanding effective motivation. Rhianna has never played with matches or lighters, not once. The first time I saw her pick up a lighter I explained to her that lighters and matches were dangerous and not to be played with. That she could accidentally hurt herself or someone else. And that if she didn't play with matches now, I would show her how to start and tend a fire properly when she was old enough.

She's asked me about twice a year if she was old enough to learn to make a fire yet, but she refuses to play with matches or lighters even if another adult says it's okay...

Heather and I joined a gym. After cleaning out the cabinets, fridge and freezer, we went to the grocery store and proceeded to fill it back up. Heather starts grad school this Thursday, so I'm about to become a unpaid/lowly paid personal assistant, house-person, information gatherer for papers and gym motivator.
It almost works, two people working and one person staying home. They'd love to turn me into a happy cleaning machine, but honestly Jeff did a better job, when he was not working.

Today I have to take my daughter to get uniform shirts for school. She is in middle school and they wear school Tshirts only. She hates them because she is a nonconformist, which I respect and understand. They also can only wear solid color shorts and pants. To offset this we go a little nutz with flashy colored/printed knee socks and sneakers, lol. She also has pink and purple stripes in her hair.I am all for individuality. She is not allowed to break the dress code rules, but she is allowed to find the loopholes and push the limits a bit!
