My first language is not English, my first few languages were not English. As such Ceridwen has been picking up other languages since her birth. Her mother has snapped at me before for talking in Farsi or Arabic in public on the phone. Of course she has no problem with Italian or Spanish.

Tonight, for the first time in months, she wanted to see her daughter for more than 2m. Since I'm not a .... I didn't even hesitate or bring up it was hugely inconvenient and getting late. I even gave Ceridwen an early bath and got her dressed up nicely, packed her favorite toys, and prepared in case she wanted to stay the night with Mommy.

So not 3m into talking with her mother Ceridwen is having trouble getting her point across. So she tries Farsi and Italian mixed like a toddler would. Ceridwen then looks back at me and says the same thing in Farsi and Italian to me with an obvious "Help me speak to Mommy, Daddy" look on her face... I barely begin to respond in Farsi to Ceridwen and Mommy FREAKS OUT about how rude it is to speak another language in front of her.

As if I have initiated some hidden communication w/ Ceridwen...

Within 30s Ceridwen wanted to leave she was scared and on the verge of tears.

I get speaking a foreign language when it's unnecessary in front of other people is rude. However, this is a 3yo toddler trying to learn and wanting her father's help in figuring something out. I don't think it's unreasonable to take a minute and try to help Ceridwen figure out what she is trying to say and then say it ~in English~ so she learns the ~English~ way of saying it.

It's not like it's a surprise the guy you dated and married speaks other languages?!?

I'm ....ing rip-.... furious right now.    -Magnus

Magnus, you are doing that little girl an immense right by teaching her languages at this age. It doesn't matter if she becomes fluent at this point and if she mixes them. You are creating little pathways in her brain that will never go away. She will be far ahead of most people on the planet with the number of languages she's been exposed to. I know you and your wife are having issues, and while I have scolded people for not speaking English in the workplace, when that was the policy, this is a whole other matter. She needs someone other than you to explain to her how important early exposure to languages is, and how natural mixing the languages she hears is. Common sense should have had her simply ask you what she had said, but there's obviously a lot of other baggage there. Just know that there is NOTHING wrong with teaching your daughter other languages. I wish I had been exposed to more than just Spanish as a child.

The child is brilliant, yet she has yet to master opening doors. I'm sure it's around the corner though. We will install sliding locks at the top of her door.

This is what we had to do with DS after he (at 3 years old) simply removed his door handle to circumvent the childproof gizmo we had installed.

For all my PIF friends, for the mommy's who have to let their babies grow up, the daddy's that teach their babies more than just languages, and the vets, who give so much. And for wonderwoman (aka Q4) for inspiring us all with her endless energy and for Lox, for whom Friday never comes fast enough. You all rock!

Good Morning, PIF -- Have a Great Monday!

Ps. pchela, you likely just broke off a piece of the temporary filling they put in between doing the root canal and placing the crown. Not a big deal.

First, what a nice thing to read first thing! You're awesome Cleo!

Second, sadly, it's most definitely tooth. The back half of one side of my tooth. The jagged edge has torn my tongue all up but I'm about to head to the dentist now.

P.S.
Having a piece of tooth fall off in your mouth when brushing your teeth is not something I recommend! So don't do it y'all!

Well, the treasure chest packages that were returned for insufficient postage went out again today. The post office applied the previous amount towards the new amount. Hopefully all is well but a few days late.

Now, I'm off to make dinner. It's shrimp cocktail, lemon-ginger salmon, asparagus and sweet potato fries. Heather goes insane at the seafood counter.

Dang Enid. I'm coming to your house for dinner!

I spent the day doing my part for the local economy.

Back to school shopping? I spent what I think is an ungodly amount on new athletic clothes. Sports stuff is expensive and the new gym won't allow me to wear vibram five finger shoes.

Dinner is easy. Sweet potato fries and salmon 15- 20 minutes in oven together and asparagus 2 mins in microwave steamer. Heather did the shrimp earlier :)

back to school and running spikes for #2! Actually was looking at those 5 finger shoes today! funky!! Why doesn't the gym allow them? Seem to have more protection than some shoes I've seen.

The rule really doesn't make sense. The manager said that they didn't have as much foot protection as standard shoes, so I'm going to buy another pair of "barefoot" shoes that don't look like vibrams. I hate the look of vibrams but they don't give me shin splints, like my Asics do.

wow, I just found out a friend of mine was in the 'Sugarpit' when the stage collapsed on Saturday! She has a fractured wrist, and she's very lucky it wasn't worse! I watched the video and it just looked terrifying :( Prayers for the families of the 5 who died.

Glad your friend is ok Lynlee, I have been praying for the families of those who were hurt or lost loved ones since I heard about it. Very scary thing.

I'm draggin today too. Have coffee. Have vape. Have a list almost as long as Q4's (snort) {no one has a list as long as Q4's!}

LOL- I have been lazy today!! I swear! I slept till 7, made pancakes for breakfast- then sat around till the heat of the day, (like its not already 85 at 6am) and we loaded up shovels and hoes and stakes and drove out and spent a few hours setting up the skeet field, - then I came home and threw frozen pot pies in the oven. LOL

Today I have to take my daughter to get uniform shirts for school. She is in middle school and they wear school Tshirts only. She hates them because she is a nonconformist, which I respect and understand. They also can only wear solid color shorts and pants. To offset this we go a little nutz with flashy colored/printed knee socks and sneakers, lol. She also has pink and purple stripes in her hair.I am all for individuality. She is not allowed to break the dress code rules, but she is allowed to find the loopholes and push the limits a bit!

I am SOOOO glad you let her keyzy!!
My kids schools went to dress codes starting in 5th grade- my oldest was in 4th at the time, and I TRIED to fight it- but all the other sheeple were afraid to upset the school board- the next year he had to wear the uniform or 'standardized dress' as they call it.... - he was miserable. said he felt like he looked like Barney Fife... They had to wear kahki pants, green, white, black or grey polo shirts, and single color tennis shoes or dress shoes.

With Brett being the one who went, it wasnt too bad, BUT, I knew it would KILL Matt- he wears overalls, and his jeans tucked in his boots, and is sooo country. heck it was hard for Brett- we didnt even OWN a pair of kahki pants. seriously.

I knew it would KILL Rayley- she dresses like punky brewster on crack. Always wearing tights and hose that are bright and funky- with shorts, skirts, whatever- and has pink stripes in her hair- that she teases up in a 60's ish do- , and wears boots and shorts, and tutu's over her jeans, and ugg boots with sweat pants.

Our school cut out the colorful hose, and no jewerly, and no fun bows in their hair- NOTHING to make them look different or to be themselves, or feel like a normal person.

that was the straw that broke the camels back- I withdrew them and refuse to send them back. LOL
