Tell her the boogie monster lives under her bed at night and if she gets out of bed or makes any he is is going to get her.

So... the timer didn't work? :(

Do you guys let her get up for water, drink, can't sleep, etc? I'm trying to remember how I handled that stuff. I know people told me I had to ignore her and she'd fall asleep eventually, but I could never do that.

HOnestly, I dont know- because each of my kids has slept in the bed until the next kid came along. I have NO CLUE how to get rid of Bow- I tried getting Petey (the dog) but he and Bow just fight over who gets to sleep next to me.

With Brett and Hoover they were 3 and 4 and it was November, told them if they didnt sleep in their own room Santa couldnt come.

With Bertha it was when Bow got here and she got a cool new bed.

Of course, I thought I had it licked with Bow he would fall asleep in my lap and I would lay him on the couch- by 2am he was in my bed again.

Now he will tell me "its time to go to bed" or just go get in bed with his daddy.

and ROFLMAO at her drinking the soap. Thats funny :)

Well B - give a snack half hour before bed and a drink right before tucking her in- you have to think a few steps ahead by removing her stalling tactics. Is there a tv in her room? Maybe having her favorite show on or DVD for half hour (playing softly) with it made clear that if she doesn't settle down for sleep -OFF it goes - and be prepared to do it! (and the subsequent tantrum that follows) - she'll learn quick.

If she starts once the show is over - time to learn about consequences - no show next night / 3 year olds can be reasoned with more .... Action/reaction

What makes 3 year olds so tough is that while they can be reasoned with they also can be defiant / she's pushing the envelope - she needs to know where the lines are.

I have a friend who's 3 year old granddaughter didn't care if she was punished - the kid was smart as a whip too / so since Riley was indifferent to punishment my friend punished her favorite stuffed animal instead! It worked! (sat that toy in the corner!-Riley was beside herself!)

Really B we used kind of a combination of things. We wrapped a timer up and gave it to them as a present but not at bedtime ( too much excitement) we made a mark on it at the 30 minutes. We We explained to them that they could read for 1/2 an hr then it was time to go to sleep. We started it before they could even read yet. before we started it we told them that it was time to do anything they needed to do, pee, drink etc. We let them set the timer and when it went off bed. Tyler and Brit still have to read for awhile before they can sleep.
But the one thing I have learned and my one piece of wisdom is that what works with other kids seldom works for your own kids. So try everything and don't worry she will eventually grow out of it.

hmm maybe I'll try that. "if you don't knock it off Im going to spank your Mom.

That should cover it nicely and she is of the age that she "gets it" so maybe it will traumatize her into chilling out. After all no one wants to think about their parents ...

This spanking Beth idea is the best one yet! Woo hoo!

Yeah, snack, drink, pee "nothing else after you hear the beep", quiet time on couch while waiting for beep, brush teeth, read book, put on DVD, give favorite stuffed animal, make sure light is on under the bed to eliminate monsters (Prism, you are downright  ), we're doing it all. It's a nightmare, OMG.

Got a new task, building a new dog house. DW's contribution was requiring that it be fully insulated and that we use some of the quarter round logs that we used on the addition for its siding

(I've already got refinishing the log cabin exterior, building new frames for the raised beds in the garden, installing new windows, new topsoil in the backyard -- I clearly don't have enough home work piled up :) )

Ours is size limited, has to fit under the stair landing to the new deck outside the new sunroom. It lets the pooches look out across the backyard and garden :) Looking at 30x39x29H interior, but the framing and siding will bulk it out, sloped roof will be 39x48.

Wifie said she would put the siding on, but I have to cut it, and I already know who will end up sitting under the landing, caulking everything and installing the boards. Of course before that I have to lay down the concrete path blocks that it'll rest on (no way I was going to do a custom pad for it).

Toughest part will be dragging it into place -- the roof has to be on before that, shingled, so it'll be a hefty box, only a couple inches clearance between the existing landing columns and to the deck joists. It keeps me off the streets :)
