when i was smoking i had a difficult time going to my monthly drs appts, the movies or any other activity that would keep me from smoking. after about 15 minutes of being stuck in a non-smoking building, getting out for a cigarette would be all i could think about.

i quit smoking about 2 months ago. i drove 90 min to my dr appt, happily vaping off and on the whole way. i spent 90 minutes between the dr and the pharmacy (in the same building). i didnt even think about vaping the whole time.

granted there have been time s where i snuck off to the restroom to vape a little but not beacuse i needed it. because i wanted to get up and walk around during a movie or i just i could and not get caught (childish i know). today i realized the lack of nicotine for an hr or two wasnt as big of problem as being without a cigarette.

goes to show all that crap they put in the cigarettes is more addicting than the nicotine itsself.

That was a big problem for me too...
I COULD NOT be without cigarettes !
I was always counting how many were left in the pack, how many packs left, did I buy enough for the weekend, the trip....
I always had plenty on hand, plus RYO stash, cigars, pipe and tobacco...it was so silly- yet it was very real.
They say smokers can't sleep if they know that there are no cigs for the morning. I don't know, but I was always anxious about them.

Now, I still have a sizeable stash of DIY, vendor juices I am working through- mods and batteries...
but I don't have the 'anxiety' of running out, and I go for hours everyday without vaping...and it doesn't bother me.
I do sneek a vape every now and then, not everyday...but I don't 'have to' have it.
Now, it's more like a pleasure I have at home.

I had no doubt that the crap they added to what we inhaled were worse and more addictive but i really didnt think it would make that much of a difference when it came to the time between vaping mostly because it was such an easy transition for me. i quit smoking as soon as i bought my ecig. i figured since part of the addiction was the physical aspects of smoking as well as the feel of the smoke while inhaling and exhaling i would still have the same issues.. i still get all that with vaping. which is why i didnt really expect to not have those "omg im not allowed to have a smoke so i want one even more" cravings.

There's two factors in play here, I think. Well, three:

1) Vapers tend to keep a longer supply on hand. If I was running out of juice I think I'd flip like I did if I was running out of smokes. We can sleep easy even if the addition was the same because we're generally stocked up.

2) We're getting nicotine slower and more often than when we smoked. Our nicotine levels probably stay more constant than before, so we don't feel the nicotine spike and crave as much as before.

3) I've heard in several places that tobacco contains chemicals that act as MAO inhibitors, and that combined with nicotine results in a stronger addition than nicotine alone. There really isn't a lot of research done on nicotine addition totally absent from tobacco because until recently no one picked up a nicotine addition that way.

Yes I think it's all the other crap in cigs that makes you unable to go without (or quit altogether). Probably another reason why cessation aids don't work. Vaping is different because of the satisfaction you get from the vapor and it satisfies your desire to fill your lungs. But you don't get all the other nasty chemicals engineered to keep you wanting one after another.
