Yes, it is an oily type of substance (it probably is an oil), i just called it slimey yucky stuff. It is best at retaining the flavoring in solutions such as these, but yeah you are absolutely right.

And for the pro-active cleaner who isn't experiencing any of those symptoms yet...how often would you clean the atomizer, once a week?
I haven't had an atomizer last long enough to really work it out....but I am starting to believe it might be a good idea to run it under the tap, or steam it, or at least blow it out every day.
I think the general concensus is weekly, but IMO you could slide to every other week if you are good at not letting your atomizer get clogged... I am not that good, cause i stop in the middle of smoke breaks quite often, and the liquid just sits on my atomizer, and taunts me.
If you are burning through atomizers really quickly, you may be doing something wrong.
From what i have read, it could be anything from, keeping the atomizer too wet, too dry, or too hot. You could just be a really heavy user, and thats all you are going to get.
I would suggest try using one of your atomizer differently, not less, but differently next time. There are how to video's on youtube, i would make sure they are from a reputable supplier though, not just some random guy. I know there are some suppliers from ECF that have videos on youtube. I am not sure if you checked them out yet or not, but i think they would help. If you ask me you should have accidentally had an atomizer last longer than a month if you have already gone through a few of them.
Oh believe me I have read every tip going 'and' have followed the general consensus of opinions but unfortunately I am well known for simply having more bad luck than most ....lol.
I have a small air pump that i carry on my electric bicycle and put one of those needle valves on it and then with some coordination i used it to blow out the atomizer and WA LA!!!! here i am back to day one with my e-cig so a couple drops in the cartridge end and ya wanna talk about smoke? yeah i can live with this
Okay.. so I got this little scungi (sp?) steamer a few years ago and have only pulled it out of the closet for really tough jobs cause it is a pain in the ... to get to the top shelf of the closet in the apartment where I keep it. I was inspired to pull it out to try on some dead and almost dead atomizers... I cleaned them, but now I am dying to try them and see if any of them work. I had only one dead atomizer (due to a Wild Cherry Cough syrup mistake) over nearly 7 weeks and then 3 of them died this week (and one arrived nearly DOA on a product I got used.. so 4). Now I am dying to try them and see if they work, but I have to wait for them to dry

Tried cleaning my 901b atomizer first, Now the atomizer wasn't dead or dying but vapour was diminishing and i wasnt getting much from it.
Gave it a good few blasts cart end and another good few blasts the battery end with the steam gun, blew out any excess water, only let it dry out for an hour or so ( stood it on my pc tower, nice and warm there ) dripped about 6 drops of liquid onto the atomizer, put in a new cart, attached a fresh battery , let her sit for 5 mins to let the juice soak into the atomizer a little and hey presto , The Little guy smokes good as new, great draw again , vapour a plenty...SUCCESS
So, that seemed to work a treat with the 901 atomizer but what about a classic pen style one ?
I have a pen atomizer that draws like a macdonalds milkshake so i used this as my test subject.
Again using the same technique as i did with the 901 and again ..SUCCESS ...
I must say that as Ruby stated , both atomizers were really thirsty for a while afterwards and both give lots more vapour, I now also seem to get more throat feel with them. I dont know if thats because the coil heats up more now that it's clean but whatever the reason i like it.
Only thing is now i'm constantly looking around for things to steam clean

Spikey--I always put mine in the oven on 150 degrees for about 15 minutes and they are bone dry--and it will in no way hurt them--gets all the water out--give it a try--Sun
I am cooking my atomizers.. yay!!! you ROCK Sun!
Note to self.. set timer so you don't leave them all in overnight and melt the coils while you read the forum lol!!!!!
Do you guys ever think that the crap we come up with will be "cited" someday and we will be like the Alexander Graham Bell of the E-cig? The Chinese can invent it... but only we can perfect it's use with the crazy sh&t we come up with! I will bet they actually sit and WAIT for their atomizers to dry! (Suckers!). Or maybe since they are so much more technologically advanced than us they have figured out how to use UVC autoclave light to dry-heat sterilize them or something lol!

Sorry If this has been posted some where in this thread but the easiest and best way I found to clean an atomizer (actually to resurrect them) is the coca-cola method.
Just throw the atomizer in coke for about 1-2hrs....take out and rinse well with water....dry with tissue...then let it drain over night (battery side up). It has worked for me twice so far. Others are having great success with it as well.

Does that really work? I've been having problems with my atomizer... maybe that's the reason i don't clean it = )
