I don't get what the fuss and confusion is all about.

It's simple.

Two perspectives. One is I give a damn and the other is I don't.

If I don't then obviously the more clones the better.

If I do, obviously clones degrade the ability to recover and profit from the investment in design and innovation, the very driver. As for things being overpriced, it's called market competition. It's not overpriced because if it was you wouldn't buy it.

The final question is SHOULD you buy clones or not? That is entirely up to you and your own business.

Not a cent of profit is lost.

No one in the market for a $200 mod will opt for a $20 clone.

However many people will buy a clone first, and THEN buy an authentic.

If anything, clones increase exposure, give free worldwide marketing and help authentic modders get advertising the otherwise could never afford.

Modders should be flattered, and say "thank you".

Sorry your data sounds dubious. I think I'll disagree on this one.

You should read more.
It's been seen all over this forum.

The reason people buy authentics isn't price or performance or even build quality.
It's about collectibility and the satisfaction of owning a product made by the original manufacturer.

You Don't get that from a clone.

That's why authentics usually sell out.
;)

The facts don't lie.

That's a poor way to go about establishing facts. I'm not saying your wrong about that, but mistaking assumption for fact is usually dangerous and unnecessary.

For one have you considered that not all vapers sign up to ecf upon purchase of their first device?

Have you considered the possibility that there may be a difference of some sort between ecf members in general and the rest of the vaping population?

Clones might be but data isn't that cheap.

Yep. I just buy stuff to vape with not to collect. So I will buy clones if they suit my need. Just bought another authentic istick basic.

I go for function over bling and bragging rights.

It's obviously accurate, otherwise how are authentics selling out?
Lol

Clones can't hurt the profit of an item that isn't available.
That's a fact.

Clones have helped the industry.
Just ask Svoe Maesto.
The KFL is a clone of the Russian which is an improved clone of the original Kayfun.

........... That's why authentics usually sell out.

I don't think these "modders" that are selling original products understand business real well at all ... That's why they always sell out of there product.

At least the Chinese are smart enough to make as many of there clones as is needed in order to satisfy the demand for there product. An old Chinese business man once told me ... "You can't make any money if your doors are closed, and you can't make money if your out of stock".

These modders should take heed to that advice .... If there is money to be made from your original design, make as many as you can in order to fulfill the demand.

Again, You can't make money if you have nothing to sell (and I have a feeling these modders are designing and manufacturing there products in order to make $$money$$ .... that's what it's all about!

If that's true then I concede.

Anyway, I won't be replacing my clone with an authentic untill it stops working.

Your correct, they have no clue how to run a business.

Facebook only= no business lisc./no recourse for customer.

Presales=not enough capital to operate.

They intentionally make limited small runs and sell out, sometimes before the product is even made.

They maximize profit because they don't have confidence the hype will last.

These small time modders that seem to completely run out of there product as soon as it's available for sale should take the advice shown in the old Jay Leno Doritos chip commercial >> "Crunch All You Want .. We'll Just Make More"

Yup, the folks at Lays have figured out the simple fact that if you want to sell a lot of any product, your going to have to just make more of them ... and line your pockets at the same time.

If your making $$$, why stop making them?

When I had my shop, we wouldn't announce a new product until we had 500 units in stock and had worked out cost/profit margin that would be accepted in the market.
We knew we had to stay competitive.
We could get thousands of units out before any competition could figure out what we had, at a price that was difficult to beat.
In the end, our quality and value exceeded our competition, and we were always successful.
22 years later, our largest customer bought the company.
;)

Good business always wins over fast profit.
