OK, I have tried single coils, dual coils, vertical wicks, u wicks (all silica) and so far disappointment......
If I go the single coil route, great flavor but the vapor and TH is very lacking
Dual coils gives me great vapor for about 3 puffs until the juice starts burning.
It seems like I can't get the silica wicks to transport my juice fast enough, I am only running 33% VG

I am using Kanthal A1 32g
with single coils I can only run up to 3.7v
with duals I've gone up to 5v

It doesn't seem to matter what I do, the results are the same.

What kind of device are you using? I'm guessing it would be a VV since you mentioned different voltages in your post.

I'm a single coil guy and do rebuilds using 30g kanthal. But it really all depends on the type of RBA you are using as well. I use bottom feed RBA's using 30g kanthal for around 1.5 ohms. And I don't use silica, I use cotton.

Cotton is much more absorbant than silica, but it also doesn't last as long as silica. And you can't dry burn it.

As far as coils are concerned...It's all about the ohms of the coil in relation to the battery and the device you are using. And as equally important is the type of RBA and wick you use.

VV devices are good for RBA's but only if the ohms of the coil are decent (1.0-3.0 depending on device and battery) and the wick has to be able do it's job...wick the juice to the coil.

I use a cotton wick on an RBA with a little saddle of SS mesh in the middle of the wick that i then wrap the coil on. A full SS wick is rough on the throat, but this seems to be a decent compromise. I make my coils to about 2.2 Ohms with the same wire you are using. Sad's observations about cotton wick are accurate and mine last me about 2-3 weeks before i have to rebuild them, but the mesh is reuseable.
I use a REO, so the wick is always kept wet as it has to be, but i have used the same thing in rebuildable tanks on a silver bullet with no problems too.

People have reported similar issues with the Hyper SRT2. They just don't seem to wick well. Looking at pictures it looks like the wick holes might be a bit small? I don't have one, but if they're too small for the wick it will choke and fail to wick well. Try smaller silica if you have it, or less strands.

My wife will only use these...

I blocked the air tube with a piece from a carto condom, you could also just break a toothpick off in it.
Drill a small hole, start small, right next to where the coil is on the left of the neg post.
I use the second smallest screw driver of a micro driver set to wrap my coils, 32g with 5/6 wraps is about 2ohm.
Get peaches and cream thread from walmart, its 100% cotton.
Connect the coil to the posts with the driver still in to keep it tight, don't let the coil touch either post.
Thread the whole thread through the coil, it helps to wet one end and twist.
Unravel one string from the thread, pull it out slowly till the other end is just about to the coil, snip off the string at the coil.
Use tweezers to push the ends of the thread through the wick holes, trim the threads so they are level with the bottom.
Reassemble so the hole is lined up with the coil.
Fill, make sure to soak the thread in the coil, wait about 5 minutes.
Vape!

My wife chain vapes and this setup lasts her about 3 days before she has to rewick. Just nip the threads right next to the coil. Pull out the threads and dry burn then put in a new thread. No need for a recoil.

I performed a little test today, I read the post on using stainless steel cable as a wick, so I cut a length of each and placed them in the Hyper SRT and waited to see which wicked faster......... The SS cable didn't work worth a duce, my other conclusion is 2mm silica wick is as slow as molasass in January........ I am desperate for an alternative to cartos, with my DIY juice I'll go through 1 a day, bloody hell! Does 3mm wick faster than 2mm? Anyone try 2mm ceramic?

VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I made a set of fishwicks following the popular videos throughout ECF, I'm running dual 1/8th inch ceramic wicks (drilled out the holes) @ 1.4 ohms with 32g Kanthal A1. Flavor transfer is like a punch in the throat (considering dropping flavoring percentage down from 10%). I'm about 3/4 of the way through the first tank, vapor production is weak right now, we'll see what happens after a couple tanks of juice. I can't believe how fast this material wicks the juice, I don't think I can vape hard enough to get a dry hit.

love the ceramic wicks, and the flavor is outstanding! it does take a while for the vapor production to get going. this is because of the irregular surface of the ceramic, creating voids between the wire and wick. when it comes to wrapping ceramic, the tighter the better. this break in period is the time it takes stuff to build up between the gaps. there is now a great method of getting a super tight wrap, the ehw method, this is wrapped with a flame to the wire and wick as you wrap it. this method creates an almost instant vape, no real break in period. check out the thread "fc2000 ceramic" there is some good info on this subject.

I found this method after i had it up and running, I'll try a re-wrap tonight using this method.
