Yeah, too bad. I think Vap's onto the right idea there; I would just add that I do find that some of my juices are for some of my atties only. I killed an HH357 with one, but it lives happily in my Phoenix now. Even on the AGA, I use the juices that work well in it mostly. If I want that other flavor, there's always another device.

no doubt, in the end it just could be the juice. some juices just may contain much more sweeteners in them and from the description above I would tend to believe this. it may be possible when ordering these juices to ask if they could possibly reduce the sweeteners in them, but then again it may change them so much that you will not like them as much.

I'm very certain the newer CF 2000s have substantially less heat sink effect, more porous, less mass.

Speaking of which, I have been scouring the forums for the composition of the fishwick ceramic, I know it was divulged in one of the conversations by a member, I can't seem to find it. I was toying around with the idea of firing my own wicks, love the idea of no bench grinding, so if anyone knows the composition or raw materials and technique to use, I would be ever so great-full.

This is what I see.....

I think Topfin-cutting is passé now, they no longer measure up to the capabilities of the newer ceramic wicks. Maybe some other ceramic material will come around at some point, but until then, I'm done with airstones.

I have not only stopped making them, but replaced them all with the newer CF 2000s.

this is what I get when I click reply with quote to Hello World....

Be great if yet someone else would try to fire some up.

Aluminum oxide (something something KO3)? Vap, you remember, got that info right?

yes, aluminum oxide. not sure if the fish stones are exactly the same. from what I gather the raw material might be the same, the difference might be that the fc-wicks are tweaked for maximum performance and that they are binded at over 2000 degrees, where as the fish stones are binded by plastics, so torching the fish stones are a must.

Brilliant, I'm going to look into possibly casting my own, I'm looking for consistency in diameter. I don't like the sound of "binding by plastics"

I've got a sample plate of a aluminum oxide based ceramic on it's way from Refractron Technologies, I'm trying to figure out the best way to machine it, I have a tile saw to cut it into 1/4"X1/4" blocks, the hard part is machining it round uniformly, I can always bench grind it but I want more consistent diameters. I bought a 1/4" hollow diamond drill bit, the ID is a wee bit larger than 1/8", maybe I can pinch the diamond portions down to "core" out a 1/8" rod. I will post updates as I run performance tests on this product.

The drill bit is similar to this.
