Question on room temp. We had our first of many 100 degree days yesterday. Won't be long and the 110 plus will be here. We run our AC at 82 and the sunny side of the house rooms will typically be 90. Wonder if my batch will be ready quicker?
Kind of a tongue in cheek post.
I also thought about sitting the jar on my computer case as a low temp warmer.

I've put some thought into the temperature situation. As far as I can see, there is no chemical reaction going on, it seems to simply be a leaching operation, dissolving parts of the tobacco mix into the PG. If this is true, then one would think the higher the temp, the faster the leaching process. If you're chaffing at the bit after a few days, I suggest you go the warm water bath route, or put in a heap of macerations and bury them in the backyard, or you'll have nothing left to work with after a couple of weeks :)

Hey everyone! Paul thank you for pointing me to this thread.

Why is RYO?

I want to try this method. In the mason jar. Looked at the site seeking pipe tobacco and there's do many to choose from. Wow! Where does one start when choosing a flavor our two from that site?

Claire in your posts above you will see that RYO and WTA are underlined. That means on this forum that you can hover your mouse pointer over the letters and a ? will appear. That means if you leave the pointer there it will pop up a text of what the acronym means.

RYO is roll your own tobacco for cigarettes. WTA is whole tobacco alkaloids which there are discussions of in the DIY Liquid forum.

Go to your local tobacco shop that sells cigars and pipe tobacco and ask them what is popular in a modest price range. See if you can buy and ounce or so for under $10 and start soaking.

Paul thank you for the reply. I been reading on my phone and can not see pop up text. Appreciate the explanation. :)

I have plenty of pg and I think a brand new case of mason jars.

Once the extract is done. I'm wondering how concentrates it is? So when I go to mix my juice would I use 2-5% extract in my recipe or does one typically have to use more?

When using an oz of tobacco for example with approx 100-130ml of pg to soak. What is the average amount of extract left to use after filtering.?

This is exciting! Thank you all for this info. I was not looking forward to putting tools away in my barn today. But now I have a reason to go out there and get those mason jars!

I bought a 1.4oz package of tobacco and pushed it into the jar until it looked like I had used 2/3 of the original. If you can buy an ounce that would be easier or if you have a scale and weigh it. I didn't pack it tight. Then I added the pg without measuring, just covering it. johni says around 100-130ml and he gets around 80ml after filtering.

He uses 10-15% extract for a mild flavor or 20-25% for a bold flavor. I think mine will be modest flavor and will start at 20%.

Interesting to know. I expected the extract to be more concentrate where less % world be needed to mix a final product.

Hi Claire. Extractions done with this method yield very good tobacco flavor. One ounce of tobacco will yield somewhere around 80 ml of extract which in turn will make 400 to 800 ml of juice. I'd call that pretty efficient.

My original post has most of the method in it but feel free to ask questions. Have fun and enjoy the process.:)

Just got my fire cured from leaf only.Got another few samples coming.I took a leaf and cut it up into squares and added a 50/50 blend to the container. It has only been a couple days or so but it is turning dark already.Smells great to.Question to anyone.Do you add anything to it after it has been steeped for the duration(2-4 weeks).Say like any sweetner(I don't care for sweetners myself) or other flavors and/or add it to anything else, juice wise that is.I has ideas but thought it might be a'ight just as is since it is already in pg/vg base. Can't wait to try it in a couple weeks. Thanks all..........

Hi Ding. I add pg/vg just enough to submerge the tobacco and let it soak for 4 weeks. After filtering, the extract needed to flavor your juice should be in the 15 to 20 percent range. I add no flavorings (others do), just nicotine, pg and vg to make juice. The amount of extract you use may take a little experimentation to get it right for your tastes. Start with small test batches and give them a few days steep to figure that out.

and howdy back johni..Ah that's what I needed to know ,thank you mucho.I added enough to just cover my leaf also.Ima not for sweetening things up and like the flavor strong with a bite so to say.I figured about 20% flavor but wasn't sure about adding nic to the batch,or at least much nic.I don't have a nic tester but have one incoming.I love the N.E.T.s flavoring.I can add it to anything now.Now to order more PG/VG for my new leaf that is coming. This can be intersting. Thanks again johni for the help and this thread.

Glad I could help. The only way I have tested for nic in extracts is with my built-in nicometer. It tells me there isn't much there.
