Some plant material held in suspension, can react with sunlight and create strange flavors. Don't know if this happens to any detectable level with tobacco but it sure as hell does with hops. Skunky beer anyone?

I think burping the jar helps eliminate the "skunk" by releasing built up gases IME, lost a C-I Cigar extract that way.

I've wondered if your windowsill macerations suffered any. When I get around to extracting some hops, I'm keeping the stuff in the dark for sure.

The lab filters you linked are fine. I use 15 cm diameter and fold to fit into a funnel. Google how to fold it. Filter paper is rated by the smallest particulates it will capture. If you use one that is too fine (rated for extremely small particles), extract will not flow through it. I currently us 11 micron followed by 6 micron and will experiment with 2.5 micron soon.

I asked Diane about using a 2.5 micron filter. She said you would probably need a vacuum system to make it workable.

I figured so but thought it might be worth a try. When I filter, first through a coffee filter it is slow, 11 micron filter paper: medium, then it goes fairly quickly through the 6 micron. I'm in no hurry so if the 2.5 micron paper will flow even slowly, I'll be happy. If not, I'm satisfied with the cleanliness of my extracts.

After a couple of days my Spirit has gotten stronger. I think 25% was too much. Had it in a 3ml tank and vaped about half of it. Added ~1ml of vg and shook it up. Much better. Still very strong. hmmm, going to have to wait till the weekend and try a weaker mix.
I started to tell you I thought that would happen but part of the fun of home brewing is tasting the changes as they happen. It seems like all tobacco extracts go through that change, gaining impact. Mixed juice also takes a few days to come together. So are you liking the American Spirit?

I do about the same thing but use "USA Virginia Flue Cured Tobacco" from Tobacco Leaf Samples - leafonly.com (just click add to cart, if you click the name it takes you to 1lb packages). I have made over 250ml of extract and have not used 1/8 lb of leaf. With freight it was under $10 to me here in Florida. Nice tobacco'ish flavor. I add just a touch of coffee extract to my mix, really improves the flavor and you don't really taste coffee, which I make the same way as the tobacco extract. I figure it cost me pennies per ml to make my own juice, and it taste better than any I have ordered. Keep on DIY....

Perused the selections again today and noticed two organics, Canadian flue cured and American flue cured. USPS shipping was $3.45 making it 9.44 for one sample. I'll hold off a bit and maybe get one of each.
