Just noticed this thread. Got any pics? I am working on something very similar. So far I have stuff coming in the mail so nothing to show yet. Also the glass blower is out of town doing a show. He uses only borosilicate glass, he is a lampworker. What kind of glass is neon glass? borosilicate can withstand tons of heat and resists breaking nicely.
