If I plan on vaping in a restaurant, I sit down, grab a napkin, pull my PV, take it apart and clean it while ordering. If nothing is said, I vape small hits and exhale down or through my nose while waiting for my food.

I act like I'm doing nothing wrong. Everyone ignores me.

That's how you do it. Thumbs up to you.

There is no tobacco, no burning, no smoke, no ash, no tar, no known carcinogens, no known health issues, and no cigarette smell. I can't see any reason to pretend I'm smoking.

i don't pretend to smoke either,,there is a difference!!! i chose not to smoke,,therefore i vape !!!

I try not to be rude, but since smoking is banned everywhere indoors, vapers seem to be getting lumped in with smelly, smokey, unhealthy cancer stick analogers. So using the "only vape where you can smoke" method implies that we're smokers, too and should be treated just like them. We have to make a stand somewhere, somehow to separate us from them. Education helps, so does the demonstration of our new "hobby", our non-smoke producing "vapor inhaler". I'm beginning to get worried that it's too late since so many of us started using cigarette looking PV's instead of Mods, that further alienated the anti-smoking public. That's why when I'm out I ALWAYS use a Box Mod, it's then so easy to explain and I NEVER get hassled for vaping indoors.. But show 'em an 808 or a 510 and you've lost before you can open your mouth.......... Oh, and calling them eCigarettes or Electronic Cigarettes really helped the cause, too!!

A great place to start winning over suspicious folk is to pick up a PV that looks NOTHING like a cigarette, cigar, pipe, hookah, water pipe, ect. This wasn't a viable option for me at first because as a 20 year smoker I felt that I really needed something that was as close to smoking as I could get. After several months I can tell you that 99% of people don't give the bigger devices a second glance unless they're curious and interested. The provari is a pretty good conversation starter... Still, I try to be polite.

We run the risk of being labelled argumentative and rebellious when we challenge people who question vaping. We don't want that to happen. The public doesn't understand vaping yet and we should explain what we are doing in a friendly way. A challenge doesn't have to result in a standoff and most of us will admit that our urge to vape is not even close to the urges we had when we were smokers.

I have no problem with being in a store for 30 minutes and not vaping. Longer than that and I will stealth vape a couple of hits to replenish my nic level. I haven't actually had anyone challenge me and ask me to stop. I carry an eGo with a Boge carto when I'm out and it fits into the hand with just the tip exposed. I vape a long hit, inhale it, and exhale slowly through my nose for maximum nic absorption.

We need to educate the public that tests show 98% or so of the nic is absorbed and almost none is contained in the exhaled vapor. Once the public recognizes vaping as a safer alternative to smoking, with almost no risk to the public, we will be welcome. National news programs will do this one day. I miss 60 minutes. Morley Safer would have been a good guy to explain vaping to the public.

I am new here so I don't want to start any wars, but, (lol there's always a but) I personally don't blame the people that don't want it in their buildings. It is their choice and it does make 99% of the general population think you ARE smoking. For example I wouldn't want someone sitting in front of me at a theater blowing vapor out in front of the screen all the time, or seeing an led light up all the time. It would be distracting. Not to mention you know 100% that it will cause problems so why do it? Personally I don't think I will ever even try vaping in public or in buildings other than my home. I don't see the big deal to wait to leave a restaurant to avoid an almost certain conflict. I think it could give vaping a bad name to always be trying to throw it in peoples faces and then have to argue you are not smoking.

A friend of mine got me vaping and I found this works pretty well and informs at the same time. When he goes into a restaurant he sits down at the table and as soon as our waitress comes over asks if they mind if we vape and hands her an explanation card. Usually the waitress trots over to the manager and discusses it(this can take time sometimes). Then if we get the go ahead it is respectable to the management of the restaurant and the staff. Rarely have we been told we could not vape in a place and often we get allot of interest from the management. I have been told no, they love pvs and vaping, but it causes too much confusion for smokers.

Odds are, studies say, your boss is a borderline psychopath: Is Your Boss a Psychopath? | Fast Company

That's just the nature of the way things are. You do not negotiate with such people on the basis of facts, good will, ethics or anything of that sort. Such approaches only lead to frustration.

Such people will hold whatever point of view is convenient to their own purposes, even if it is just the satisfaction of making someone else miserable.

The only way to negotiate with such people is to negotiate on the basis of their self interest.

HOW you vaping in the building is consistent with your boss's self interest is up to you to discover.

With restaurants and stuff it is easy for me. I'm a good customer, and tip extremely well. They want my continued patronage because my patronage is obviously in their interest. But with a boss if I had one? I have no idea. That's why I became my own boss -- I was tired of the power plays of petty tyrants whose self image was tied to how miserable they could make people who were better than them feel.

Good luck!

As an addendum, I should also point out that in matters of religion and politics, there is really no such thing as ANY amount of facts, reason or moral argument leading someone to change their position. Oh sure, it will happen rarely. But overall, trying to get someone to change their opinion on something like social welfare entitlements or weapons systems is akin to trying to blow a mountain over with vape. LOL

Attitudes toward smoking generally have largely become religious rather than factual issues. People who smoke are often seen as being just a few rungs beneath child molesters in the moral hierarchy. Thus, arguments in this realm can be seen by religious antis as akin to a murderer arguing that using an ax is superior to using a knife to accomplish the same ends.

Sorry for my machine gun replies but about 2 months ago I was in a bar and was vaping. Someone lit up a cig cause they thought that's what I was doing. Dude got thrown out asap. It was hysterical. I went outside and let him try my pv. He loved it. I have gotten 7 people to drop analogs. Long live vaping!

That happened to me just this past Saturday. My band was playing out one of the rare non-smoking bars in town. I was vaping my eGo and producing tons of vapor. Two folks that eve saw me, lit up, and were told immediately to take it outside.

They sell disposables there so they knew what I was doing.

I also had a gal ask me to stop while we were setting up. I took the time to help her understand what that flameless contraption was I was enjoying.

:p

I mostly stealth vape in public buildings. I was in lowes over the weekend getting some paint and while I was talking I took an inhale and a little vape escaped at inhale. She immediately gave me a weird look. All I said was "its electronic" she then immediately started asking questions. I handed her my card and said I sell eGo's from time to time and she said she was going to call me to order 2 of them. I was vaping on my provari at the time.
Sometimes it is a good thing to let people see you, heh.

I vape in public but always ask permission when I'm on someone else's property. I think vaping should be allowed but then you're gonna have the problem of management deciding who is vaping and who is smoking. It's the same as when I smoked analogs. I always asked first if they minded me smoking and if I was indoors I never even bothered asking if the owners were non smokers as I knew the foul smell analogs emitted.

I just got to offer my cent in here.

Years ago me and my family went by plane and visited some old friends. We got there by about midnight. We were welcomed nicely, offered something to eat, and after exchanging pleasantries they led us to our room and said good night. I smoked 1.5 PAD. It was a location where if you go outside for a smoke you'd be seen very visibly by passing strangers in a desolate street. It was about three in the morning. Whether it was safe or not I decided to smoke in their basement. It was a stupid move. As soon as I got to smoke half of my cigarette, one of the occupants went downstairs and reminded me in a nice and apologetic manner that it is not allowed to smoke in any part of the house because of some child's allergy to smoke or something. She politely let me finished my smoke. Looking back, I could have just gone to any one of their bathrooms or in the very room they provided if e-cigs were available at that time and vaped myself to death without having to worry about anything.

These types of instances kind of remind me the advantages of being able to smoke in any part of our own houses, or in many cases in other people's, as well as a lot of private places, without any restrictions whatsoever already far outweighs the disadvantages such as not being able to smoke in our places of work or areas where smoking is prohibited. I simply don't see the point of having to argue with anybody and explain what these devices are. You simply don't do it.
