Heads up to anyone who ordered (like I did) from smogdistro: if you ordered on black Friday, or if your order didn't ship yet you are NOT going to get it. Apparently the site is going under :( r/SmogGB

Hey slayer, Good Find and Thanks for the Update. I didn't see this chain of events coming down the pike. I knew he was a 1 man operation for quite a while now and have been in correspondence with him off and on enough to get a feeling that he was trying to be a stand up guy. Sorry to see him go down like this though, I really am. One person starting out on his own used to be "The American Dream Story", but unfortunately nowadays there has to be advisers, lawyers, accountants, and who knows who else involved (and that just makes it even harder when having to pay all of them, and start a business from scratch at the same time). This is too bad. I never felt that he was a Money Grubber, that's why I did business with, and liked, him.

Edit: I'm just gonna sit back and see how this all shakes out before doing anything, I mean it's only $30 I'm looking at here.

For those that have purchases in at SmogDistro.com: I was just over on the site where he is 95% of the time and it looks like they are concerned for his safety more than their purchases (and people over there tend to be rather "Snarky" and "Rude" and "Quick Tempered" a lot more so than on this site). That site is a convoluted mess for me to make heads or tails of, I've been over there trying to navigate around (this without having an account of my own) and just gathered snippets of information about Jeff's (Smogdistro.com is a 1 man operation) status, and it seems that several of his "friends and acquaintances" that have been in contact with him are concerned for his well being, but not their purchases as they have posted that "He is having some Very Pressing Personal Issues". He has always treated me 100% in the several times I have done business and corresponded with him. His website (Smogdistro.com) is down, his Twitter account is down also. That's all I can gather at this time, Wish I could shed more light folks (I was trying to read the Tea Leaves for you). If you have purchased some goods and are waiting for shipment (I'm right there with you) I don't know what to tell you (I did my purchase thru PayPal so am not worried too much about that for now). I just don't know when he will be back up and running again or when we can expect our orders to be mailed out to us.
Oh boy! A similar situation just happened at Hermetic Steam where customers are waiting for unfulfilled orders. I placed a small order from Smog a few months ago and received it, no problem. However, communicating with them was strange and unusual and I got a funny feeling about the whole transaction. Like I said, I got my order but not without trepidation.

He was Running the website, Receiving orders, Sending Out orders (he told me that sometimes he had 6 black plastic trash bags full of orders for UPS to customers on a daily basis and would make as many as 6 different trips to UPS per day), doing ALL the Email Correspondence, Handling all the Returns, Doing all the Restocking for the Online Store, Keeping up a Twitter Account, Keeping up his Main "That Other" Account and answering customer questions and dealing with complaints all on that Forum, Dealing with PayPal and keeping that Account going. That's just from what I learned thru conversations (emails) with him since September this year. I don't really know how 1 person could have done that, I guess his marriage went South earlier this year also, but that is the extent of that that I knew of. In his post over on "That other site" he said he was working 24/7, It's no wonder. It's just too bad. Glad that You had no problems with your order though, nether did I the few times I did business with him.

Just got a Cthulhu tri-coil deck in the post today and built that challenging little deck. My first attempt was with a 1.5mm rod; a bit restrictive on the airflow. The next build will bump up to a 2mm rod; hopefully, that'll fix the airflow issues somewhat.

Is there a learning curve to building this deck? You bet! It's very challenging, but achievable. Would I go out and buy another one if this one got run over in the drive way? Meh....the jury is still out on that one; the yea or nay will come after it's build a couple more times.

The downside of the tri-coil deck, so far for me, is the wicking process and being able to properly clean the coils between wick changes. This challenge makes me really appreciate my single and dual coil decks. But, I won't poo poo the tri-coil deck too much until I cross that inevitable bridge.

The first build was with Ti, but future builds will probably be with SS, Nichrome 80 or kanthal.....something I can lightly dry burn and clean to get rid of coil gunk without too much trouble and worry.

Now....if Cthulhu Mods will just hurry up with that Hastur RDTA!

Thank You for the Pictures Chris. With that I might just try Rayon again, but need to study you're post after I get some sleep. Again, Thanks for the Pic's.

Wait lol....Im not the one to emulate just yet with this Cthulhu V2!.... The coil I built was sound but other than that I am lost as to what could be the specific problem. Basically dry hit city on this thing! I suppose Coil placement or too much Rayon/too thick of tails. That little metal ring above the juice channels that sort of screws down maybe I should take that off. In addition a 4mm coil probably isnt the best place to start, the sheer diameter of the coil could have blocked juice flow I suppose.

Anyway I go to unscrew the deck and the Rayon was burnt to a crisp and just came apart in two pieces.... back to the drawing board probably take a stab at the dual coil setup since others have shared their successful builds with that deck.

But if anyone has a single coil build that would be great of you to share because I have yet to see any single coil builds online for the Cthulhu to get an idea where to put the coil or how to wick so was just guessing. With the wicking also I sort of confused myself I was using Egyptian Cotton the previous week which needs to be rolled and if you roll the Rayon real tight like real cotton I believe your in for dry hits. The rayon you more or less just pull apart what you need if im not mistaken and just smooth it out removing chunks and making sure it flows in one direction. Ive only used Rayon for about a month or so previously had just wicked with Japanese cotton(although the Egyptian is much better than KGD, imo if you want organic natural cotton)

Awesome job, man! exactly what I did, although I ended up with 26 ga kanthal and 2.4 mm. I agree with everything you said. I find that even with the 2.4 mm, the draw is still restricted, but somehow it still vapes very nicely. seems like the coilhead serves as kind of a heat sink, keeping your juice warm so it vaporizes better, or something like that. compared with the ease of building on the other decks, it's difficult to build on. Glad to see someone else here also took on the challenge!

Single coil. Wick it with just the ends of the wick in the juice channels. I don't use the wicking ring even though it's in this picture. It's definitely more challenging to wick than the dual coil deck. Rule of thumb is: Less is better, fluff your cotton up, make sure there's a direct path into your coil.

Well I had hoped I would have had my Cthulhu a while ago, unfortunately I ended up being one of Smog's Black Friday scam victims:glare: Maybe later this month I'll be able to order another from a reputable seller and get to try one out.

Got my V1 & V2 from Eciggity.com.....they are a great vendor. Perhaps not the least expensive, but you can usually find a 10off coupon somewhere online (Reddit10 or maybe ECF). What I can say about them is, they stand behind the product. If you have an issue, they'll fix it and usually at their cost.

I almost ordered it from Eciggity  on the Black Friday discount, But Smog had a fairly OK rep, his BF deals email baited me hard, had them listed for about $14 less shipped, this time of year a few bucks makes a difference. Unfortunately in this case it was definitely too good to be true :nah: Ah well, maybe next year, my fault really, in retrospect just from his condescending snide remarks made on both his site, and in emails it was sort of obvious things were coming to a head. Just glad I wasn't into him for as much as some folks were.
