Don't email because email is given the weight it deserves. It's too easy. It's too easy to send to the spam folder too. Too easy to ignore. No one takes it seriously in this day and age. A piece of paper has physical presence and weight and required actual effort which establishes credibility. It's also a real traceable far less "stuffable" communique.

CASAA - thank you for your efforts - and of course no one "minds" your update here. Thank you for taking the time! Your efforts represent all of us, clients and businesses alike.

I've been I touch with the Illinois CASAA rep. He is going to be finding the name and addresses of the people on the review committee who would be in opposition (politically) to the bill's authors.

I am also asking Illinois resident who may be able to speak before the committee (nothing fancy, just your pro-ecig story) when the time comes to PM me your contact info.

Finally, for those of you who feel uncomfortable or inarticulate, Vocalek and I are working on format letters you can copy, print, sign and send to the addresses Tiger is getting us. We'll make it as easy as possible for you. So just sit tight & watch the CASAA forum - a lot is going on behind the scenes to get an organized & comprehensive campagn going!

I also need to talk to Steve, so we can coordinate our efforts. Steve, if you want to PM me your phone number, I'd love to talk to you.

First, let me state that I deeply appreciate the efforts of everyone who is not an Illinois resident yet is helping out. This news has me on edge. If I lose access to my e-cigs, I will seriously flip my .....

I also drafted a short message to Quinn, not much but it's about the best I can do at the current time...

Dear Governor Quinn,

I recently heard news of Bill SB3174, which is a bill related to certain types of tobacco products. While I certainly feel that certain parts of the bill are wonderful, such as restricting the sale of tobacco products to minors under the age of 18, I do feel some hesitation when it comes to Section 4 (a-6). This seems to strike at the heart of the e-cigarette issue.

I personally feel that e-cigarettes, while not yet recognized by the FDA as a smoking cessation product, certainly are either a cessation product or a harm reduction product. This invention is helping lifelong smokers to kick the habit, invariably extending their lives in the process. I would think that a product like this would be celebrated by not only the FDA, but by Federal and State governments as helping their citizens lead happier, healthier lives. Creating legislation against this device seems premature and harmful.

I personally quit cigarettes using the e-cigarette, and I'm not alone. I have watched friends and family give up a habit that was causing them real harm thanks to the e-cigarette. I tried the patches, gum, pills, nothing worked for me until this. I know that you care about the health of your citizens, so please consider your veto power when it comes to this bill.

I just posted this on the other thread but wanted to put it here too.

Hi All, I just called Schmitz office and I would recommend anyone else intersted in helping and or giving an opnion to do the same.

49TH REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT
Timothy L. Schmitz (R), State Representative
217-782-5457

Chris Lauzen, Republican State Senator, 217-782-0052
Timothy Schmitz, State Representative, 217-782-5457

Lauzen sits on the Senate Public Health Committee who reviewed and approved this legislation - It passed the Senate on 3/10/2010

Now it is in the House and has been referred to the Rules Committee for review your rep. Schmitz sits on that Committee.

The process is that the Senate sends their version to the House, if the House accepts the Senate version they vote on it and it gets sent to the Governor for signature. If they don't agree then it gets sent back to the Senate for revisions.

The Governor can also veto it and then it gets sent back and both have to vote to override his veto.

Anyway your best bet is to contact your representative and have as many other business owners as possible contact him about how this bill will adversely affect business. He is a Republican and should care about businesses. The only way to stop this now is to make sure it gets voted down in the House.

Ya know, I get just a little more ...... off every day that I live in this crappy state. We have school districts that are laying of 1,000 workers (Elgin school district.) Schools are increasing class sizes to 37+ students and 1 teacher. The state is in debt and not paying it's bills. Lucky for us that our elected officials have our best interests at heart and are concentrating on the all important banning of PV's. This bunch of socialist democrats has got to go.

I'm not as eloquent as some folks with my words, but this is what I sent to Quinn through email via their website and also a duplicate hardcopy.

Please Veto bill SB3174

I was a smoker of 21+ years. I started when I was 11 years old. I have
tried pretty much every form of "FDA Approved" item to get my nicotine without the harsh chemicals (4000+ Chemicals and 65+ cancer causing ones--and it's FDA approved)

On Feb 11, 2010 I successfully made my transition to E-Cigarettes, can you believe this worked for me? I'm now Combustible Cigarette (and heavy chemical free) and Vaping my nicotine without the extreme amount of chemicals. I honestly can say I feel better, I don't get dizzy from my morning "vape" like I did from smoking cigarettes because there is no deadly carbon monoxide, I've also noted an improvement in my sense of taste and smell. Even my doctor was thrilled with me for making a switch to something other than cigarettes and he has several patients that have tried it, and now it's under a ban threat?

I can see banning these from minors and I'm all for keeping children from smoking, but please consider keeping this legal for adult purchase. It has done a FANTASTIC JOB of helping people find a safer alternative to smoking.

Why would you want people to keep smoking regular cigarettes fully knowing the harm? It could be a possible alternative that can reduce cancer cases and help reduce the near 150 billion dollar health care burdon? Keeping us on regular cigarettes will just keep the pressure on health care costs. Allowing us our choice in a safer alternative
over the course of time will most certainly reduce this stress and lower the cost to health care--among other things.

If this bill passes I can ensure that myself and my supporting family members and friends will be voting for other more health interested and oriented parties that are truly willing to look out for our health, not just the lining of the Tobacco companies, Governments, or any other involved parties pockets.

I've been following the FDA Vs SE/NJoy case and even Judge Leon has the sense to qualify E-Cigarettes as a Tobacco product, and that he stated the FDA failed to prove there was any immediate danger to consumers, it's a smart move.

Bottom line is the FDA has been terribly misleading. They have no founded proof against E-Cigarettes. Just in a real example the AAPHP has filed a petition to have the FDA retract their very misleading statements.

Please don't make a hasty decision. This is important to so many people. I am one of them.
