I've noticed a few references to dehydration caused by vaping in several threads.

I'm curious, not least because I now live in Malaysia, and as every day is 35c / 95f with humidity in the 90's, I could do without further dehydration. :p

Are we talking a dry mouth or medical dehydration? If the later does anyone know the science? Are either PG/VG diuretics?

I guess I'll just drink more water, but would be interesting to know the science.

Basically, Propylene Glycol is a hygroscopic substance, meaning it bonds to water molecules and prevents them from being absorbed by your body. Since your saliva is mostly water, it can quickly cause dry mouth. Eventually, if you vape for a sustained period and not drink any water, you'll start to feel the effects of dehydration. As long as you are drinking water regularly though, you shouldn't have to worry about it.

Some people have found that a different blend of VG / PG on juice makes a difference.

If I ever feel thirsty though, I just drink more water. It doesn't happen too often to me but I don't vape that often and my blends are almost always 50/50.

Unless you're severely dehydrated, look at it as a good opportunity to drink lots of yummy water. :)

Since you live in Malaysia, you're in a good place to get real, fresh coconut water -- my own problems with dehydration got so bad after I started vaping, my electrolytes went completely haywire, and I had swollen ankles and painfully lumpy feet -- coconut water fixed it.

Vaping won't *cause* "medical dehydration" -- but if you're already dehydrated, as I was, it can sure accelerate the process!
