Nope, no diabetes of any kind here, pre- or otherwise, THANK GOD, because it runs -- hell, it GALLOPS -- thru my family. Because of my gene pool, I've always been terrified of it, and watched my weight and my diet very carefully; also, since I have the stopped-up (usually) verson of IBS, I have to eat a LOT of fiber, which also helps sugar metabolism, slowing it down. Hopefully if I can maintain my good eating habits and moderate weight, I'll never have to deal with that [expletive omitted] of a disease. My mom is pretty much confined to a wheelchair thx to that horrible disease, her legs are so swollen that it's very difficult for her to stand for more than a minute or two; she's very likely going to have to progress (hah!) from oral meds to injectable insulin in the very near future, and she is NOT looking forward to that, she bruises if you look at her hard. But still gobbling sugar like a maniac.

OJ is ok, but it kinda irritates my mouth -- so would pineapple if I drank it straight, but mixing it 50/50 with the coconut water seems to mitigate the irritation. OJ was definitely one that I checked for potassium content, but pineapple is higher, and it goes nicely with coconut, so I stick with that. Bananas are good with Blueberry Muffin Frosted Mini-Wheats, but otherwise I can take 'em or leave 'em; last summer when I was first dealing with all this electrolyte BS, I was supplementing the coconut water with canteloupes, another great source -- seems like most of the beta-carotene-rich foods are also high in potassium, hoorah!

I think it's pretty cool that not only do I no longer smoke, but vaping has forced me out of my comfy niche with caffeine just in order to stay hydrated, AND I don't snack so much while waiting for a commercial [smoke-break!] when watching TV, so I haven't gained any weight from quitting smoking -- win-win-win all around!

I feel for you. My wife's sister, a Doctor, died of diabetes.
My stepfather didn't die of diabetes but it gave him a weird form of Alzheimer's and atherosclerosis.
He was at his business once and took off all his clothes and went across the street to find the bathroom.
He thought he was home. Since he couldn't find the bathroom he decided to order some guava pastries..
Another time he decided to go looking for my mom in Key Largo where they used to have a second home
(they had long before sold it) He had the whole family driving down useless one looking for him.
The cops finally found him passed out from insulin shock at a stop sign in Marathon.
He totaled his car and damaged several others on the way too.
He disappeared on the day of my son's baptism..found him at the church coffee shop munching on some 'pastelitos'
I'm border line hypoglycemic..though recently my sugar was high. No more sugar for me...Oops, my ice cream is melting (LOL)

I'm brand new to vaping (been doing it for about 35 hours) and I have noticed that it makes your mouth really dry and clearly dehydrades you just as everyone is saying. Has anyone noticed that drinking alcohol and vaping increases a hangover? If the reason alcohol gives people a bad hangover is due to dehydration than that mixed with vaping should really make you feel like crap, right?

I think you're onto something. Last Saturday was a prime example of this lol.

The dehydration issue with vaping has been getting progressively worse with me. For me, it seems that something in vaping is definitely acting as a diuretic. When I vape heavy at night {while gaming} I have to go to the bathroom about every 20 minutes, it seems. But I have no idea what ingredient in my juice is causing this! Is it the VG? The PG? The nicotine? -I dunno. :(

I started vaping with Halo juice and never had these dehydration issues then. When I started DIYing my juice, I was at 75%PG and slowly over time I have gone to 75%VG so I am not sure if I am VG sensitive or if it is simply because I vape "too much." I have also reduced the nic from 24mg to 18mg to 15mg and even 10mg on some juice. Over time, the "diuretic" symptoms have slowly gotten more and more apparent......................

Currently, I am only vaping an 85%PG juice I made yesterday, just to see if it makes a difference. I just don't get it. I drink ridiculous amounts of Gatorade and water throughout the day, and have drank caffeinated coffee my whole life. This dryness malady is definitely from vaping. Very frustrating.

Nothing will drive me back to cigarettes. But this issue is really screwing up my daily life. Dry eyes, muscle aches, constipation, cotton mouth, and I have to sleep much more than before- even then I am tired all the time. SUCKS!

Another thing: I quit drinking alcohol about 6 years ago. No drinking for me, whatsoever. In the morning, I feel like I drank 18 beers the night before. I am ridiculously dehydrated from "pissing" so much every night and I have a headache every morning that is very similar to hangover symptoms. SMH....................

Anybody have any ideas to figure this one out???????????????

I have type one diabetes...but I keep my glucose in the normal range with medication naturally. Like others have noted, coconut water is great, even for diabetics, seems to help with dehydration. I have noticed vaping keeps me away from things I shouldn't eat, I just grab a sweeter tasting juice and I no longer crave sweets.

I also eat pediatric electrolyte strips, they're available at any pharmacy, they help fight dehydration. I probably consume as much water now as I did prior to vaping, a couple gallons per day. I've noticed if I don't vape an hour before I hit the bed at night, I don't wake up thirsty during the night or in the morning.

When I first started vaping I would bring the mod with me and take a few tokes before parking it on the nightstand. Not anymore. Seems to have solved waking up dehydrated.

I'm wondering if, without realizing it, while you're heavily vaping, the dry mouth is making you drink more? If you drink caffeinated coffee regularly (not just in the morning), all the caffeine could be causing a lot of urination. I had to leave off about 75%-80% of my tea drinking, for this exact reason. Once I switched from 10 cups to 2-3 cups a day, and also added coconut water, all my problems with dehydration/electrolytes completely disappeared.

I just drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning. Maybe one cup after dinner. Yes, while I am vaping heavy, dry mouth makes me drink more. Much more. At that time of day, it is either water or some flavor of Gatorade type drink. Vape more-----> drink more-----> bathroom more------> dehydrated more. It's a viscous circle!:facepalm::facepalm:

Yes, and the gatorade is just causing more circling, because it's got as much sodium in it as potassium -- and sodium is dehydrating. Coconut water, or coconut water mixed with juice if you can't abide the taste of coconut water straight (I can't!), would be a much better choice; there's very little sodium in it, but a whopping load of potassium; it's a perfect miracle of hydration. I mix the coco water with pineapple juice; the coco water has such a light taste that all you really taste is the juice, and pineapple juice is also fairly high in potassium.

I think the folks that sell that gatorade/powerade stuff have a perfect scam going on; sell this stuff that's supposed to hydrate you, so you drink lots of it -- but it's also full of sodium, which just makes the dehydration and thirst worse, so you drink more -- they sell more!

When I stopped somking cigs and started vaping I also noticed a break out of little red dots. Some of them were itchy. I found it that it is a symptom from quitting smoking those nasty cancer sticks. I smoked cigs since I was 16 and didn't quit until I was 21. Now it's been 10 months and I feel great, I can smell things again, I get winded less often, I've managed to gain a little bit of weight(good thing in my position). All that AND I don't smell like an ashtray! Man I wish I would have never picked up cigarette though but oh well.

To all those people wanting to quit smoking cigs who are reading this. Go pick up a starter kit and give it a shot.

Andria, you wanna know the crazy part? We got about a dozen of these immense plastic pouches of "Gatorade Riptide Rush" from a sporting event. each pouch mixes one of those six gallon coolers. Because it is free and tasty, THAT IS ALL I HAVE BEEN DRINKING late at night while gaming for the past 3 months, which pretty much correlates with my "downhill death spiral" of thirstyness as of late.:facepalm::facepalm: I will completely cease drinking that swill to eliminate the sodium. I hope it helps. Thanks for bringing this up as I would have never thought of this as a possible cause of my issue. :)

Yeah, and I just checked the old bottle of Powerade I have in the fridge (haven't drunk any in months!) -- and it's actually got way more sodium than potassium -- it says 150mg sodium, 35mg potassium! YIKES! No wonder my hydration was always so lacking (I used to get agonizing leg cramps ALL THE TIME!); until I discovered the coconut water, I was drinking this stuff daily, thinking it was actually helping so I choked the nasty stuff down. GACK!

I just get the plain Zico, but I get the 1 liter cartons, because they're "Not from Concentrate" -- though I keep a bottle like that one, of the "from concentrate", in the fridge for emergencies -- it's actually got higher potassium than the kind I normally buy.
