another NF update .. a strange thing happened. After I finished the hot water bath on the stove of the NF flavoring, I then poured it into a heavy plastic clear measuring cup I have. Then I used the spout of that measuring cup to pour the evaporated flavoring back into it's original glass bottle that it came in from NF.

I set the plastic measuring cup down and mixed up my little 3ml bottle that I posted about earlier and didnt go back to wash out the measuring cup for about an hour. When I went back and saw the measuring cup it had a coating on the inside of it, I've never seen anything like it, the coating is a cloudy white and only appears on the inside of the cup where the flavoring itself was.

I assumed it was some crystalization from the flavoring that had cooled and dried .. thought hot water would easily remove it. I soaked it in hot water .. it doesnt budge. I put super hot water in it .. it doesnt budge. Nothing will remove this cloudy white coating that is now inside my measuring cup. It sure makes me wonder what is in the flavoring that would cause this and .. maybe whatever caused it is not something I should be vaping. ugh.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?? We all know that just because something is "organic" or "natural", that doesn't necessarily mean "good for you". I definitely KNOW that vaping is healthier than cigarettes ... but, I wonder what this coating is.

Any thoughts?

Is the plastic measuring cup made from BPA? If so, warm liquids can release compounds. I personally would use bomex or pyrex for anything warm/hot fluids. What Is BPA? | Bisphenol A (BPA) FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
If BPA free I have no clue. I have not tried the flavorings so I can't give a hands on comment.

It also coated the glass pyrex cup .. but I was finally able to get it off the glass by repeatedly soaking it in hot water. But the plastic measuring cup doesnt actually have a coating, the cloudy white residue is etched into the plastic and feels "bumpy" to the touch. It is even etched into the spout, which only came in contact with the flavoring for the few seconds it took to pour it.

Now I am concerned with the glass. I know Bovina has evaporated her NFs I hope she can give you some insight.
I wish I could help more.

This is just an opinion since I have no formal training in chemistry but, I would venture a guess that it was just a chemical reaction between the plastic and the heated liquid. Kind of like how many juices will crack tanks but the liquid will not crack your lungs. Kurt ( very qualified and respected chemist here at ECF) posted an explanation about the chemical reaction with the tanks that made them crack somewhere in this DIY section that set all of our minds at ease. I know that he is a busy guy but if you are very concerned about it, you may be able to PM him to ask his opinion.

Ooh, I had not seen this post. If it did that to Pyrex, I am not vaping that stuff until someone has an explanation. That is concerning to me.

Hi Salem .. it didnt etch into the pyrex, only into the plastic. On the pyrex it had a thick cloudy white residue, like a layer of white coating, and yes even on the pyrex that coating was "bumpy" .. but unlike the plastic, the pyrex one did eventually come off the glass after several soaks in very hot water. The cloudy white residue part is scarey though, whether it comes off or not.

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words LOL ... so here's a picture.
The white stuff is not only permanently affixed to the inside of the plastic cup but it is actually "etched" to it.
Notice how some of the other area around the spout doesn't have the white on it because the flavoring never hit those areas.

Which flavoring did that? I've seen etched and cracked tanks from certain flavors, but that looks like more than the etching I've seen. And I have never had any flavor leave a coating on glass, even if it could be removed. I still haven't tried my NF flavors. I keep going back and forth.

It happened with the Butterscotch3X. The picture is of the plastic cup .. it did also happen on a pyrex glass cup but it eventually came off the glass after many hot water soaks. But it stayed on the plastic cup and is actually etched onto it.

Is that the pyrex that you heated the flavoring in? It looks like you may have over heated and some crystalized to me. I really have a feeling that you may have overheated and removed too much from the flavoring. There is a reason that the alcohol is in there to begin with it seems to me.

I never heat mine. I just leave caps off for a few days shaking every now and then. You had to have changed something with the heat. I am thinking that other flavors may do the same if you heat and evaporate some of it but never tried it to know for sure.

Since it is for Tea and Coffee flavoring I assume that having the water super hot is not a problem. I had transferred the flavoring from the glass pyrex cup into this plastic measuring cup to make it easy to pour back into the bottle, the flavoring was in and out of that little cup in less than 10 seconds. I'm hesitant to vape anything that would leave a residue like that for any reason.

alcohol will leave a white residue as well as sodium and I am pretty sure that it does have a sodium content but not sure how high that would be however I have not used these flavors so I am no expert on them.

someone on this thread said they used the fusion cartos in a tank I am trying to find out what tank they used but I can't remember who it was now

A smoktech 5 ml tank works good too. I punch my own holes.
