It's very much an individual thing. It depends on how long you smoked, how much you smoked - in so many words how much hard wiring was done to your brain for the addiction(s) to smoking. It takes time for that addiction to dissipate - again, this isn't just about a simple nicotine addiction.

Me? 30 year smoker and up to 2 PAD when I switched - give or take. When I started vaping it took 3 months to completely lose a 30 year addiction to smoking. The cravings moved from multiple times daily, to every day, to several times a week, month, months apart, every six months or so etc. They get further apart and weaker over time. Nearing my five year anniversary, I think I may have had two cravings pop up in the last year and they were more like a mild suggestion that a cigarette seemed like a good idea for a moment. Needless to say I didn't act on that idea.

I am currently a dual user (vaping maybe four years, only cut down on cigs the last two years after my mom got sick) and living with a smoker (my mom  even though she was off them after being in a coma, stress got the best of her) and Ill be doing good for a couple days, maybe four cigs a day, but when I get in the car, especially when my mom is with me, I need a cig worse than I had the last two days put together... add the smell of a cigarette wofting my way... well if theres one there, its in my face on fire, again... My mom has said she is planning on quitting with me. today Im going to switch back to only smoking outside and hope she will follow my lead, which im sure she will. maybe after ive cut down a few days ill smoke five in a row:smokie: and puke my face off ... ill see if thatll help... I just realized how bad that sounds... oh well to each there own :banana:dancing bananas always make me feel better!

Every so often I still get a craving for a cigarette. Completely random not associated with the old habits like after a meal or anything. Even though I know at this point it will most definitely taste like straight .... Does this ever go away or am I the only one?
I don't think you're the only one, I've talked to folks that quit smoking (through non-vaping methods) DECADES ago, and a few of them admit to still getting the urge to light up every once in a while.
It's easy to understand. Smoking was a part of your life, for some of us, like me, for most of our adult lives. Letting go of something like that isn't an easy thing to do.
Like me, I'm sure you've seen your share of "quit" stories from vapers that smoked for 10, 20, 30, 40 years (or more). That's something we did, every day, ten to thirty (or more) times a day. It's not easy to just forget about something like that.

I do think everyone is different. I have a friend who is currently attempting e-cigs and at this moment her cravings are not being met. Unfortunately, she is long distance and I can't meet up with her to let her try out some other things.

OTOH, my cravings went away almost immediately, even with a little cigalike that I used the first couple of days. I was struck last night... I was watching House of Cards (I know, I'm so behind the times), but there was an episode where Frank and Claire were sharing a cigarette. The imagery and sounds of this cigarette were the focus of the scene. They showed tapping it down, lighting it, focused on the little crackling noises it makes when you take a drag. The wisp of smoke coming off, the actors exhaling the smoke. It was very visually appealing. If I had watched this when smoking, or in one of my many attempts to quit, it would have driven me over the edge. As it was, I could recognize that it was a very well shot scene, evoking the pleasures and rituals of a cigarette, but I had absolutely no desire to have one. All my vape stuff was upstairs and I was too lazy to get it, and I didn't even need it. That just really made an impression on me as something I would have never been able to imagine when I was a smoker.

Anyway, it is different for different people. Don't worry too much about it. It seems from reading the comments that 2-3 months is a pretty average time, but for some, I'm sure, it does take much longer.

I haven't had a cigarette in 3 and half years but I still (though rarely) get a craving out of nowhere. The last time was a couple of weeks ago while watching 48 Hours. Nick Nolte lit up a cigarette in a convertible driven by Eddie Murphy and when he took that first drag I instantly had a craving for one of my own. Darndest thing.

I'm closing in on two years smoke free. I still get cravings occasionally, some of them fairly acute. I don't trust myself to have "just one", so I don't. Fortunately, vaping replaced smoking for me instantly. Like, I received my starter kit in the mail and never smoked another cigarette. I was a PAD smoker for nearly 25 years. Once I tied on my first bourbon buzz and didn't smoke, I knew I had it made.

I do still have the smoking dreams though, probably several per month. Always wake up feeling ashamed of myself - which is a good thing, I guess.

It has almost completely gone away for me. I think that if it never truly bothered me, I wouldn't vape. Maybe there will be a time that I will give up vaping, but for right now I don't see that happening.
I had quit over 11 years ago, and when I am around smokers I still get a faint urge.

I get the occasional craving for the hand-to-mouth action. Not a physical craving per se, but a "just park and relax" craving. I think it is psychological conditioning from when I smoked, because that was a reason that I vape now. There is no nicotine, or very little nicotine, involved. It is just an excuse, based on relaxation. Doing the hobby portion of vaping is a relaxing habit. I guess artists feel the same way, just pushing all things away and enjoying the hobby or craft.

Maybe an escape or a reason to slow down. I think cigar smokers are in the same boat. Not a regular "need", but a hobby that is enjoyed. I started at high nic, and now am rather done with it.

Vaping to get away from all of the smoking chemicals has worked. When I am comfortably busy, I don't vape. But a flavorful vape...is enjoyable.

My experience only. When I committed to vaping to quit, the cravings lasted for six months or so, diminishing somewhat over time. I ended up smoking two every morning for a long time. One day I realized that I had not smoked those two for about a week and the craving have not returned for my last two years. I estimate that it was around eight months re-oriented my habits to vaping rather than cigarettes. It got progressively easier and it was worth it. Over two years without cigs and without cravings.
