do these ecigs really taste and satisfy like regular cigs?

When I first switched, I would have said that e-cigs are different, but wouldn't have been able to decide which was better. Now, almost a year later, my opinion is that they taste and feel way better. When I stopped trying to make it taste like an analog, a whole new world opened up.

Now, my e-cig usually tastes like watermelon or coffee.

Ok, I'm not going to beat around the bush here. I just started vaping this past Wednesday. While I ENJOY my 510, and the whole vaping experience, they are NOT just like a regular cigarette, and never will be. Here's why I say that: Out of all the chemicals in cigarette smoke, nicotine is NOT the ONLY addictive substance in them. It's not JUST the chemical aspect of cigs, either. There's the whole psychological aspect of it, the routines that you have trained your body and mind to expect. Some people HAVE quit cigs in just a single day, but I feel it's unrealistic to tell someone that as if it is gospel.

Things that I, myself, have encountered are: Dealing with triggers like eating, seeing my wife light up, waking up, getting ready to sleep, playing my video games, and a general craving for that "something" that's missing (likely one of the "other" substances I mentioned above).

Now, that is not to say that I have NOT had real success with e-cigs. In fact, I have. I just haven't had the AMAZING success that some here have enjoyed.

I've tried to quit three times, and NOT ONE SINGLE TIME, have I had the results that I enjoy with my 510. It may not be an instant stoppage of "analogs", but in my first day, I cut my Camel habit from a pack a day, down to half a pack. My second day saw the same usage. My third day I was able to cut that further down to 1/4 pack, and I'm right around that number right now. Now that I've gotten a handle on MOST of the chemical issues, I find myself dealing mainly with my triggers. There's just something about that smoke after a meal that I don't get from an e-cig, but I recognize that for my part it is mostly psychological. It's just a routine that I have to break and get used to.

I think I've covered the "satisfaction" issue quite well. As for taste... just find a vendor that is inexpensive and buy some sample bottles and find a flavor or two that you like, and order them in bulk. E-cigs have a much better taste than tobacco cigarettes, and have none of the nasty aftertaste that I'm sure you're familiar with.

The bottom line is this, results CAN and WILL VARY. Just stick with it, because this is the best option out there in terms of risk and side effects that you're going to find. Nothing that the pharmaceutical companies can offer you is anywhere near as safe.

I'm not going to endorse the model that I use here, because that is not the issue, the 510, the 901, KR808, and the eGo are ALL good models in their own right. What I AM going to tell you is this, try a manual battery first, they have the shortest learning curve in terms of draw. My next recommendation is that you find a model that looks good TO YOU, and is in your price range. If you're not spending $50 bucks a week on cigs, don't go out and buy $100 worth of product. Start small, test things out and make sure you like what you have before you dive into the more expensive models, brands, and kits. You'll hear a lot about battery life and whatnot, and yes, people do get bad batteries and atomizers, but most vendors here are good about replacing defective merch, so don't be too concerned with that. Just spend what YOU can, and let time take care of the rest.

Edit: One last word on taste... please... please... PLEASE... be wary of the pre-filled cartridges that come with nearly every kit. Those tend to taste rancid, I know mine did. Try them if you want, but be wary of them. Also be wary of the taste till your new atomizer is broken in, not sure on cartomizers because I don't use them, but standard atomizers come with what folks on here call primer, and it tastes downright NASTY. Before you judge a flavor, give it at least five or six puffs if you're using a brand new atomizer. It would probably be wise to say that you shouldn't inhale the first three or so puffs from a brand new atomizer, that should keep you from getting the worst of the primer taste.

Oh, and welcome to ECF, and welcome to vaping!

I had more trouble then most it took me just over a month to quit smoking cigarettes. It was a learning curve mainly. But once i found the right nic level for me , a good quality e liquid and the right gear it was fairly easy. I am up to 4 and a half weeks now without a smoke and really have only had a half a dozen times where the thought of buying cigarettes has crossed my mind. Times i have tried cold turkey the though of buying cigarettes crossed my mind 6 times in the first hour. If you have tried cold turkey before you will find this way is a lot more painless. But to answer your main question at least for me it is not the same as smoking. I don't stink like a smoke anymore, I can taste and smell things better. I can breathe in the morning when i wake up without having to hack up tar balls. I might even beable to run around the block without passing out now ( havent tried yet).

Obviously everyone's opinion is going to be different on this. My husband wasn't too sure about the whole vaping thing and how it compared to the real thing and he actually thinks it is BETTER then analogs. Yes he still craves the real thing once in a while, but he just picks up his PV and it's gone. And this man is one of those show me and I'll believe it type of people lol. In all honesty, try it out and see what ya think.

Its similar to smoking but its not smoke so it can't be the same feel.
It is better though, much more pleasant in the mouth and airways. I find it jsut as satisfying - the only thing you can't really do with it is the fast fast hard pull you do when youre agitated - the slow long pull you do when youre relaxing though, that one works.
I didnt buy a PV to quit - I had no intention of quitting I just wanted to smoke LESS because I developed a morning/night cough and it was bothering me.
I took 10 days to go from a PAD (25 years worth..) to none at all - I just prefer the taste of the PV and juices to the cig taste. I also found that I dont actually need the fast rush of nic, I do better with the slower buildup that PV give you. I also discovered that my brain seems quite agreeable to be happy with a substitute as it mimics the original habit so closely (stick-like object goes in mouth, inhale, blow out smoke-like stuff).
Ocasionally Ill try a cig, but its never satisfying, and the smoke makes me want to throw up to be honest. I never thought Id be in this position but there ya go; 8 months without cigs and feeling (and smellin') good :)

Honestly:

1. Its close enough to completely replace a smoking addiction.
2. You'll get the health benefits.
3. I tolerate the current technology because it does work, just not as well as I would like. But ultimately I've been smoke free for over 40 days now, and no intention of looking back. Regular analogs now smell like poison to me.

I'd say it was about 80% of the smoking experience. Enough to make quitting very, very possible.

I'm into my third cigarette-free week now (after years on 2 packs a day). I suggest you get some good quality kit first without any set ideas about quitting cigarettes. Play around with getting used to it and get lots of small trial juices. If you're ready for a go, make sure you have back-up batteries etc. Then have a try at cigarette-free days. You might be surprised at how un-difficult it is.

I tend to steer clear of being negative about smokers, smoking and the contents of tobacco - as that attitude can actually make quitting harder. Besides, I was a smoker myself (and might possibly be one again), and the last thing I want is to turn into one of those people whose 'holier than thou' nonsense partly made smoking a rebellious pleasure for me during all those years.

Good luck.

Thank you all so much for the helpful info. and encouragement. I didn't realize that i was also addicted to the other chemicals. I always thought it was the nic that kept me physically enslaved to the addiction. of course, there is also the whole psychological habit of the oral fixation, inhaling/exhaling, the throat hit etc.
I just recently was hospitalized and couldn't smoke so they had me on the patch which did somewhat alleviate the 12 heart attacks i was having without a cigarette. At one point after being admitted into the ER, but still had to wait a long time till getting a room, i snuck out with robe and all, just to have a cig which i wasn't permitted to do once you're admitted. i totally lied to the security guard who stopped me at the door and convinced him, i was given permission by dr. to go out for a smoke. He shortly found out the truth and was hunting me down in the parking lot. It was funny having to hide from him behind cars as i sucked in as many cigs i could get in till i he found me.

At the hospital, with the patch, it got easier after time, but much of it had to do with being in a new environment and distracted away from my routines, not to mention the fact that i wasn't being tempted by seeing other people smoke. i tried the patch at home once, and that lasted a week with severe withdrawals and 15,000 heart attacks.
So i think the patch at the hospital lasted longer due to the change of environment and away from my cig rituals.

During my hospital stay and a bit after, i was doing good and quit for about a month 1/2 determined to kick the habit for good. My sense of smell came back and i couldn't believe how much everything reeked of smoke...even my books, purses and clean clothes in drawers. It was awesome to have a smoke-free home, but after a while when i got back into my routines/rituals (such as my strong cuban espresso in the morning while at pc, or the after meal crave), i started jonesing again and after a while of seeing other people smoking, i caved and fell off the wagon. Being around my mother and the stress she causes me was really my breaking point and sent me right to the store to buy a pack in order to relieve the anxiety.

I am so ready to kick this habit not just for health/smell reasons, but mostly for the cost. I just bought a pack for 12.00 freakin' bucks in nyc the other day and here in jersey they cost 8.00, but will be going up soon. I am willing to try anything at this point and determined to be patient, but i want to make sure i get the best supplies and juice possible so as to make my first experience optimal. i realize different people prefer varied e cigs, but i keep hearing a lot of people liking the ego. What should i be looking for in terms of a quality kit? Does the ego have a stronger throat hit, battery life or something?
I just found this kit online from greenhouse one and it's on sale for only 50.00. i listed below what it comes with and wanted to get your opinion if this is a good kit. What do you all think?

Also, i asked the vendor about e liquid nic mgs and amount he would recommend according to the amount i currently smoke, which is a pack to a pack 1/2 per day (sometimes even 2). He suggested i get 24mgs of 30 ml bottle. He said he used to smoke a pack a day and when he first started vaping, he vaped 2 30ml bottles of 24mgs per month and now cut down to one bottle. Does that sound about right to you guys? should i try different nic mgs or does 24mgs do the job for the amount i now smoke? I also asked him which eliquid he carried that tasted closest to marlboro reds and he told me the closest one they have to marlboro is one called "usa blend". Has anyone here ever tried this flavor and think it's good? I want to get the best quality liquid. maybe i'll try some coffee flavored ones too, but i can't imagine liking those food flavored ones since i hate the taste of a marlboro menthol and won't smoke it, even if i'm craving hard. Tastes like toothpaste and makes me a bit nauseous. Apart from the nicotine, i don't what it is about marlboro reds that i'm drawn to in terms of flavor....is it the tabacco or the the blend of chemicals?

And lastly, since i intend to use e-liquid since it's cheaper, do i need a dripper? i also noticed a cartomizer isn't included in this kit. i don't even know what that is. Do i need one and what exactly is its function? Does it give you a stronger throat hit, better drag or something?

Anyway, sorry for bombarding you all with all these questions, i just want to get the right stuff before trying it. Thanx again for all your help. i'm so glad i found this site.....everyone is so willing to help the newbies here.

i hope the day comes when all these tabacco companies go out of business and the astronomical taxes the govt gets out of our addiction can shove their cash cow up their you know whats.

ok, here is the kit i found online below. Let me know what you think and if i need anything else aside from the eliquid. Are those good batteries?

The Joye EGO kit comes with:

Two x Atomizers
Two x 650mAh Batteries (Manual)
One x Atomizer Cover
One x USB Charger
One x Charger Adaptor
Five x Empty Cartridges
One x Carrying Pouch
One x English manual

You probably don't need a separate dripper; all the liquids I have ordered come in tiny little squeeze bottles that I can just drip directly from.

i also noticed a cartomizer isn't included in this kit. i don't even know what that is. Do i need one and what exactly is its function?

A cartomizer is a disposable combination cartridge-atomizer. If you have cartridges and atomizers, you don't need cartomizers.

ok, here is the kit i found online below. Let me know what you think and if i need anything else aside from the eliquid. Are those good batteries?

I would recommend that you get one or two extra atomizers to start with; it sucks to be waiting on the mail man to deliver an atomizer when your last one is dying.

Also empty cartridges are cheap and it wouldn't hurt to pick up another five or ten of those.

Yes, they are very good batteries.

I'd smoked for 25ish years and was able to stop the day i got my e-cigs, 11 days ago. And this is not the least bit unusual. Vaping is superior to smoking in so many ways. I wouldn't say it's just like smoking, but IMO it tastes better, once you find your preferred flavors. I would prefer vaping to smoking even if the health risks were equal. Tobacco stinks!

Your kit sounds perfect. (I have one just exactly like it and it's served me well for a couple of months now.) The juice question: 24mg. sounds about right, and the amount is probably about right, but I would suggest getting several little 5ml bottles of different juices instead of just one or two big 30ml bottles. That way, you can 1)try out different flavors and nicotine levels, and 2)you won't waste a whole bunch of juice if you just hate it.

I personally suggest (and so will others, I think) that you order your juice from an American company that the people around here know and trust. Some of that Chinese (deKang) juice is not the best. There are several vendors on this site that the people here swear by for juice. One of the most popular is VaporBomb.com. Also there's FreedomSmokeUSA and www.tastyvapor.com. There are others...scroll down to the vendor section of these forums and any vendor on that list will be okay. Again....order several little bottles instead of one big bottle. Or some of them have sets of samplers you can get. I would get one or two with 24mg. of nic; maybe a couple with 18mg; then see which level "scratches your itch" best. I know you want Marlboro flavor right now....and I guess after reading this thread you know you're prob. not going to find anything that tastes like a dirty ashtray (sorry! Couldn't resist).....but they have some good tobacco flavors. The "Wyatt Earp" from freedomsmokeusa is good. But.....just for kicks, order something other than tobacco....at least one. When I want a fun vape, I use Blueberry. When I want something that tastes not sweet (more like a cig) I vape a coffee flavor or a nutty (Peanut Butter) flavor. It's all very subjective and you'll find your way, just don't invest too much in one particular juice until you know if you like it. Also....your taste buds will change: what you like at first may not be your favorite after a week or two, so save your juices....your taste buds may come around and something you hated at first will be wonderful one day.

I smoked for over 40 years and truly never thought I'd quit. But this is so much more pleasant in so many ways. And if you have health problems......OMG, you just have to give this a try. You will be surprised....I consider it a miracle, I really do. Good luck and keep us informed of what you order then tell us what you think. You know this many people can't be totally wrong about these. None of us works for these companies....you're getting absolutely honest information from the people here. Welcome to the forums.....I'm so glad you found us. And if you'll notice, this site has over 40,000 members.....this is not just a handful of people trying to tell you something. These are new, but they're catching on more and more. If the government will stay out of it and not be stupid about these, I can see a day when THIS is the norm and cigs are gone. Just my 2 cents. I don't want to sound bossy or like I'm telling you what to do, but sometimes you just want someone to say do this then do that. You'll find your own way soon. Again........your kit looks great. I have a pink one, by the way.

Oh...I agree, maybe a couple of extra atomizers if you have the money. And extra cartridges (carts) can't hurt. You can re-use the carts over and over, but extras are cheap. And the start up cost may seem steep (although not compared to how much you're spending on cigs! I live in Oklahoma and they're only around $5.00 a pack here.) but after you get your kit, then the cost is basically just juice for awhile.

Does the ego have a stronger throat hit, battery life or something?
The eGo is a 510 with a bigger, longer lasting battery.
It is about the size of a small cigar, whereas the 510 is about the size of a large cigarette.

I just found this kit online from greenhouse one and it's on sale for only 50.00. i listed below what it comes with and wanted to get your opinion if this is a good kit. What do you all think?
That's a good kit, but you need juice to go with it.

Also, that will be coming from China and I hear they take about a week.
But I've been hearing good things about them, and they seem to be getting popular.

Should i try different nic mgs or does 24mgs do the job for the amount i now smoke?
There is probably about a 75% chance that 24mg is about where you should start.
But if there is one rule, it's that everybody is different and you won't know until you try.

But i can't imagine liking those food flavored ones
None of us could before we started.

I don't what it is about marlboro reds that i'm drawn to in terms of flavor....is it the tabacco or the the blend of chemicals?
I've been thinking about this a lot lately.

I have come to the conclusion that it was probably the least disgusting to you.
But you probably think you like it.

Do you know what happens to about 90% of us?

After using electronic cigarettes for even a few days, you'll find out your cigarettes taste like crap.
You just don't realize that right now is all.
:)

Do i need one and what exactly is its function? Does it give you a stronger throat hit, better drag or something?

Up until 12 days ago I was a 43+ year smoker, burning 3 packs a day. I didn't always smoke what was lit. I had tried 3 times to give it up, and once for 3 years (over 30 years ago). Personal problems drove me back.

ECigarettes are totally amazing. It provides the nicotine fix, smokey feel and right now yuck taste of tobacco (waiting for vanilla custard juice to arrive). They also are great substitutes for the way I used cigarettes as a prop.
It satisfies my ritual cigarette cravings too. When I wake I vape, with coffee I vape, after meals etc. Then of course is the vaping in between... ;)

I had a rocky start about a month ago with a very bad $20 kit, great price for a set that seems to be sold at malls for about $100). It didn't perform the way I had hoped but I knew if i had the right device, it could really work. I then found the forum, ordered a joye510 from China. In the meantime I had ordered from a US supplier and received very quickly a USB passthrough unit and cartomizers to hold me off until the kit arrived. It was perfect for me as I work 24/7 on the Internet. The 510 is great but lots of charging and will be ordering a Riva (like the eGo) soon. Carts and atomizers are compatible with the 510. My son will get some of my 510 parts as he is amazed by my success so far, and he wants to quit tobacco.

My best advice is to , read the forum, hear the success stories and pick up on as many tips as possible - this newbie forum and ecf library are great. Also make a wise choice on your ecigarette, something that will fill your future needs.

BTW... I'm in NY and cigarettes where I live cost $9.50 a pack. I didn't spend that most of the time because i had started to make my own. The cost of that was about $4.50 a day for 3 packs, and this will be cheaper.

And in the beginning, I mentioned the tobacco juice is yuck. Now it is as my taste buds are starting to become alive again, and I am craving something yummy to vape instead of sucking in something that tastes like a filthy ashtray.

Best of luck with what ever you decide. :)

Like Brad above,,,,Everyone is very different from the type of PV they like to the juice to the nic level...
Not even counting the amount of PG or VG you like....It is a totally individual experience, with great help
from this forum...The people here are fantastic in trying to help you out....But, as in most things,,,The
final word is yours......Once you get over the initial purchases and wanting to buy every type of juice out
there,,,,it is a lot cheaper too....Enjoy the Adventure...
P.S. Been analog free since Feb 11, that is unbelievable for me...

My thoughts exactly! I enjoy the flavors, like a little treat. I do smoke 1 or 2 of my husband's analogs but they are tasting more nasty by the day. I can sit here without a stinky ashtray on my desk I am now using a Longenburger basket for my "ashtray".Dividers hold my supplies nicely no smell, no mess, but I noticed tonight that my dogs need a bath. I didn't realize they smelled! Not good as they are about 200 lbs. each.

Thanx for your input. Regarding getting extra atomizers....what do you mean "when your last one is dying"? Isn't the atomizer rechargeable? do i have to keep buying new ones? or do you mean they break after some time? Forgive my ignorance i just recently found out about ecigs and this site so i haven't done a whole lot of research yet. I'm so glad i found this site though, cause i almost bought one of those expensive trial offers, but thankfully i came across this site right after and got some good info.

i can't wait to try vaping. i'll take your suggestions and purchase my kit tonight. I'll do some searching on the e liquid and go to the websites suggested by other members. i just went to one and now i gotta learn about the whole vg pg thing. i noticed on vapor bomb that there is a vg/pg mix selection. i have no idea which to select. Is that just a trial and error thing? should i get different mixes to figure out which i like best? does that mix affect the flavor or something? i'm heading for the library here and learn more. i'm really itching to try it. If this works for me and gets me off analogs, i will become a vaping evangelist and spread the gospel of vape-ianity.
