Ok, I'm not going to beat around the bush here. I just started
vaping this past Wednesday. While I ENJOY my 510, and the whole
vaping experience, they are NOT just like a regular cigarette, and never will be. Here's why I say that: Out of all the chemicals in cigarette smoke, nicotine is NOT the ONLY addictive substance in them. It's not JUST the chemical aspect of cigs, either. There's the whole psychological aspect of it, the routines that you have trained your body and mind to expect. Some people HAVE quit cigs in just a single day, but I feel it's unrealistic to tell someone that as if it is gospel.
Things that I, myself, have encountered are: Dealing with triggers like eating, seeing my wife light up, waking up, getting ready to sleep, playing my video games, and a general craving for that "something" that's missing (likely one of the "other" substances I mentioned above).
Now, that is not to say that I have NOT had real success with e-cigs. In fact, I have. I just haven't had the AMAZING success that some here have enjoyed.
I've tried to quit three times, and NOT ONE SINGLE TIME, have I had the results that I enjoy with my 510. It may not be an instant stoppage of "analogs", but in my first day, I cut my Camel habit from a pack a day, down to half a pack. My second day saw the same usage. My third day I was able to cut that further down to 1/4 pack, and I'm right around that number right now. Now that I've gotten a handle on MOST of the chemical issues, I find myself dealing mainly with my triggers. There's just something about that smoke after a meal that I don't get from an e-cig, but I recognize that for my part it is mostly psychological. It's just a routine that I have to break and get used to.
I think I've covered the "satisfaction" issue quite well. As for taste... just find a vendor that is inexpensive and buy some sample bottles and find a flavor or two that you like, and order them in bulk. E-cigs have a much better taste than tobacco cigarettes, and have none of the nasty aftertaste that I'm sure you're familiar with.
The bottom line is this, results CAN and WILL VARY. Just stick with it, because this is the best option out there in terms of risk and side effects that you're going to find. Nothing that the pharmaceutical companies can offer you is anywhere near as safe.
I'm not going to endorse the model that I use here, because that is not the issue, the 510, the 901, KR808, and the eGo are ALL good models in their own right. What I AM going to tell you is this, try a manual battery first, they have the shortest learning curve in terms of draw. My next recommendation is that you find a model that looks good TO YOU, and is in your price range. If you're not spending $50 bucks a week on cigs, don't go out and buy $100 worth of product. Start small, test things out and make sure you like what you have before you dive into the more expensive models, brands, and kits. You'll hear a lot about battery life and whatnot, and yes, people do get bad batteries and atomizers, but most vendors here are good about replacing defective merch, so don't be too concerned with that. Just spend what YOU can, and let time take care of the rest.
Edit: One last word on taste... please... please... PLEASE... be wary of the pre-filled cartridges that come with nearly every kit. Those tend to taste rancid, I know mine did. Try them if you want, but be wary of them. Also be wary of the taste till your new atomizer is broken in, not sure on cartomizers because I don't use them, but standard atomizers come with what folks on here call primer, and it tastes downright NASTY. Before you judge a flavor, give it at least five or six puffs if you're using a brand new atomizer. It would probably be wise to say that you shouldn't inhale the first three or so puffs from a brand new atomizer, that should keep you from getting the worst of the primer taste.
Oh, and welcome to ECF, and welcome to
vaping!
