Does anybody else feel weird vaping indoors?

Hey guys, so I've had my eGo Twist for about 2 weeks now.

My question is, does anybody else feel weird vaping indoors at public places?

I always ask the establishment if it's okay and they usually say it is, but even then, I feel obligated to go outside. I'm not sure why, maybe it's because I want to be courteous to those around me. I only vape 6 mg nicotine or 0 mg nicotine. It doesn't upset me if they say no, but I'm also curious about why some members are so put off by having to go outside to join the "other smokers".

I realized that after vaping for about 2 weeks how bad cigarette smoke smells. I mean, it's really disgusting smelling now. However, I've asked my friends what they've smelled from me vaping - they smell nothing, or, they get a hint of the vape (I vape fruit flavors mostly) and they say it isn't bothersome at all.

Any how, just wanted to get your opinions and ideas.

Ive been vaping for almost 2 years and i still feel the same way. I especially feel this way at peoples houses. I just feel its being courteous to others.

Yea, I generally don't even ask if I'm in a restaurant or something. I just assume that they won't allow it and go outside.

I do, however, vape at work. My boss has told me it's OK and the two guys in the office with me don't mind at all. They enjoy the smell actually.

At someone else's house if they smoke inside I will, otherwise I don't even ask. What I do is my business, but the world doesn't revolve around planet Artt.

I am the exact opposite. I don't ask, I just do it and NO I do not feel weird. I have yet to be told it wasn't allowed, even when the stewardess on the plane saw me blowing out fake smoke. The only reactions I have had are inquisitive (as in, "oh is that one of those fake cigarettes?" to which I smile and enthusiastically reply, "Yes, it is! Isn't it wonderful it has no smoke or smell?") and ended positively. I did get on the bandwagon with these recently, and so many have paved the way for me so mostly everyone has already seen it. After all, they sell them on practically ever corner now (at Walgreens).

I am no longer polluting anyone's environment so there is absolutely NO reason I shouldn't be able to use my ecig wherever I damn well please. I already went through being banned from restaurants and bars, and am taking back my right to pursue happiness with no apologies. If I am told after the fact to refrain, I will of course. But no way am I calling attention to what, to me, should be a non question since I am NOT smoking.

I agree with you ^, I am taking back just one of the many freedoms society and the law makers have trampled on. Too long have I sat idly by and just accepted that I was the bad person...while everyone around me did equally or in some cases ruder things than smoking, in my opinion of course. People having loud private conversations about their southern itches, some lady breast feeding her slurping kid, some dude at the table next to me blowing .... biscuits, a girl smacking her gum like a cow while taking really loud on her cell...the list goes on. I just puff away and quietly enjoy my now only non vice. If anyone doesn't like it, pound sand, I am not hurting anyone!

Well, this is actually a great topic. Check out the "Vaping in public" thread to read a lot more people's thoughts on this. I am actually very flexible on the issue, as long as people go about it in a courteous manner. I do NOT ask in bars, indoor concerts, grocery stores, Wal-Mart, fast food joints, BUT I do ask in people's cars, homes, smaller fine dining restaurants, offices. Now, as far as "not caring if people like/dislike it," I know for a fact that there are several flavors of e-juice that DO have a pretty loud aroma, and occasionally this can cause some people's sinuses to be irritated. If that is the case, I have no problem stopping at that time. Another aspect to consider is fine dining. If I am in an intimate setting at a nice restaurant, I will NOT blow big clouds of vapor. I might have a couple of small, discreet puffs if I feel like it, but I do not wish to ruin someones dining experience by filling the room with vapor. Now some flavors ARE virtually undetectable, and if I'm using one of those, I will either ask, or not ask, depending on the situation. I do NOT feel weird or uncomfortable vaping inside, and if someone informs me of an allergy, sensitivity, etc. in a decent fashion, I will excuse myself and go outside or in the other room. I also find that some vapers like to "flaunt" it, and I think this is rather distasteful and counter-productive for vaping in general. I have seen some people taking monster rips and blowing the vapor around just to try to get someone to say something so they can basically give them a "..... you, I'm NOT smoking" response. I agree with rookbartley989 that people often do absurd things in public, but I like to try to present vaping in a positive way to AVOID having it ill thought of. The stigma attached to smoking is very strong, and I like to try to separate vaping as much as I can, hoping that it will eventually be a recognized, accepted, and common practice.

Heck, I feel weird vaping in my own house! I'm so used to going outside to smoke, hiding it from most people I know, etc. that I feel obligated to step outside my own house to vape! Plus going outside still affords me the "break" from whatever it is I need a break from. I treat vaping very much like smoking, except now I'm not worried that I'm giving myself (or someone else) lung cancer, polluting my hair, clothing, etc. w/the nasty smell. I have begun to allow myself to vape indoors at night after my kids are in bed, but that's as far as I've gone.

As for public, I've only vaped around smokers. Because I vape a "look-alike" I assume that most people will assume I'm smoking (although the purple Volt battery/black cartos should give it away). It's the same hand-to-mouth motion, I'm blowing out vapor, I hold it like a cigarette, etc.

I'm actually quite shy about my vaping unless a smoker asks me about it - then I'll give them an earful about how well this is working for me

These days there seems to be much more rude behavior in public than in times past. I try not to add to it, but I vape pretty much everywhere and no one has ever asked me to stop or been hysterical about it. I vape in the grocery store, the drug store, the car, the convenience store, the computer shop, restaurants. I do not vape a lookalike but I don't haul out a Provari with a big tank on it either in most places. I generally carry ego C's with me when out, they fit in a pocket neatly and they don't scream look at me like a big mod and tank does.

The computer shop I converted the owner and his employees to vaping, so the Provari plus tank go there just fine, or anything else I happen to have in the car when I'm out.

Considering I like in an anti smoking state I consider myself fortunate to not be called on it everytime I take a drag.

Unfortunately for me living in Utah this is now more or less a toss up. E-cigs have been banned from being smoked indoors. Most of the bars and restaurants I go to do not care however. I usually ask and if they say they don't allow it I won't. Both of my jobs don't care as long as i'm not on the sales floor.

I don't have a problem vaping ANYWHERE indoors, but sometimes I feel strange vaping outside!

I don't mind vaping indoors in some places. I usually try not to blow huge clouds of vapor in public stores and restaurants because I still feel awkward doing it, even though I haven't smoked in over a year. Sometimes I'll take a puff or two and put it away if I've been in a store for a long time, but my buzz with a tank isn't exactly discrete. I just try not to be offensive with it and don't give people a reason to get annoyed.

Other than that though, usually I'm chain vaping everywhere else. No problem in cars, most people's houses unless it would offend them, or my own house. I'm pretty much attached to it all day.

One of my best friends has an 8-month old now and I catch myself vaping in his house out of habit when the baby is around even after 8 months. He doesn't want the baby getting exposed to the nicotine which I don't believe is anything to really worry about unless you're blowing it within 5 feet of him.. but I respect his wishes.

I mostly vape indoors only in my apartment, my car, and in my moms house. I still feel wierd vaping in moms house, she thinks it's great that I am no longer ruining my body with nasty cigs. I work at a car dealership, and we (all 3 of us that vape) are allowed to vape in the service/detail shop, but not in the showroom. I won't vape at any type of store or resturants because I never smoked in those before and it's just not in my mind when I am in one of those places.

I also feel weird vaping inside friends homes now. None of them mind, and I still ask maybe twice, "are you sure this is ok"?, and since I have explained what's in the vapor, they don't mind it at all.

Remember, perception is reality. If we as vapers give the uninformed the perception that vaping is just as bad and dangerous as smoking, that is how it will be viewed. Vape openly but respectfully, just about everywhere, is my guide. We need to stop being "sheep" and letting the "antis" define the perception of vaping.

I love vaping in my house but vaping in an indoor public place I do find odd. If I'm on the bus and I want to vape, I generally don't unless there is nobody else around where I am sitting. I don't feel comfortable drawing attention to myself, I always think someone will come up and say you can't do that and to be honest I can't be bothered with that. So, I just vape indoors privately or outside (which I find mutes the experience slightly).

Did at first, now I have the opposite problem; catch myself vaping in peoples' houses or public places all the time without even thinking about it. Can be awkward.

I'll stealth vape if i'm someplace for a while. A few discrete puffs and hold the vapor until it dissapiates a bit.

But, most of the time? wally world, a restaurant, I don't. Not because I'm particularly afraid of mobs and pitch forks, but because it just doesn't occur to me. the need to vape is no where near as urgent as the need to smoke was.

i guess my frustration from being not allowed to vape indoors is that it's almost always defended with misinformation or because other patrons may feel butthurt.
in any case, i really don't enjoy hanging out with all the other smokers. it starts many conversations i've had a thousand times before, and i miss out on all the fun inside.
i've attended 3 concerts this summer and would have lost my table or viewpoint (not to mention the show!) if i went outside to vape. instead, i enjoyed my place, drink, entertainment, and vape all at once.

I don’t vape anywhere that Smoking is not allowed.

When I go into a Grocery Store or a Theater or a Restaurant, I leave my PV in the car. Just like when I smoked Cigarettes.

I don’t really think about Vaping when I don’t have my PV on me.
