It's such a bad situation that there are so much junkie ecigs out there. I started off on an un-genuine Joye eGo and it made me sick and I was going to give up there and then until someone on this forum helped me get started again. I still have not got any satisfaction with my second Genuine Joye Ego kit......so I am still smoking cigarettes.

I didn't either until I really spent some more time here learning what's what and also trying different brands and types of attys (and juice too of course) such as low resistance. LR is not automatically night and day but I find using them more satisfying in general. Though my standard attys on a fully charged batt + plus just the right amount of juice produce great vapor too. It's just not consistent which is another big problem compared to smoking.

PAD here. 25 years give or take and have fluctuated between 1 and 1 1/2. Quit for seven months in my mid twenties, but other than that it's been a constant. I'm encouraged by the folks who were not really looking to quit because I'm in a similar boat - not that I don't think about it but I'm very much a creature of habit and it's a biggie.

So yeah, ordered the 510 yesterday eve and it's shipping today. Keep y'all posted.

Good luck and good start. You may find you need a better, longer-lasting battery soon, "eGo" batts are 510-threaded and also allow use of low resistance atomizers, for the record.

Chiming in here to add to the "YES!" chorus. I got my eGO-T kit on 22 June, and literally quit smoking analogs overnight. I did have one on 2 July, mostly out of curiosity. It was every bit as nasty as expected, and didn't really do anything for me aside from making me need to take a shower afterward.

That's not to say that I haven't had any cravings; I have. Every time I have, though, a few sips of the eGO-T (or my more recently-acquired 510-T) sets me straight. Also, make no mistake - there are thousands of other chems in analogs that you WILL experience withdrawal from (I think my biggest problem was the MAOI characteristics of tobacco) in the first couple weeks, but it's generally very manageable.

The biggest things that have foiled my previous quit attempts is, of course, nicotine and the hand-mouth habit. The thing I missed the most when I was using NRTs (mostly patches and gum) was the feeling of smoke going into my lungs, and the visual cues of exhaling clouds. The PV has, for me, neatly satisfied both.

For context's sake, I'd been smoking for about 30 years (less my occasional quits) - generally a PAD+, unless I was sick or in-transit (I traveled the world in a previous job) to somewhere.

Anyway, good luck!! Stick with it - the rewards are very much worth the work involved.

Yeah most people don't know (and I didn't before this place) that, in addition to all the other chems and additives, nicotine is only one of the naturally-occuring alkaloids in tobacco and some folks have dependences on the others as well mainly depending on brain chemistry. We all know that while nic is definitely physically addictive some folks struggle with such much worse than others. In my opinion, there are no "social smokers" just people lucky enough to have their brain receptors wired a certain way.

Hi All, i am just curious, does vaping really helps to quit smoking.
i mean, will you immediately give up cigarettes after you start vaping?

Can't speak for anyone but myself, however, I quit the day I got my first e-cig .. and it was not the greatest unit .. and I smoked analogs for 3 years after a heart attack if that tells you anything ..

Great story and the best part is that he acknowledged he can only speak for himself...

Jumping aboard the YES train...

It was a battle for me. I will say it depends A LOT on the device you are using. I went through 4 models and ended up with a VOLT. Finally, vaping is sticking. I smoke a cig here or there when it is offered at a bar, doing around the house projects with friends, etc., but don't buy cigs at all. Frankly, I find them terrible now. More of a social thing, I guess. Like if your friend buys you a beer you hate, you drink it anyway...

As for saving money...I think through some serious trial and error (lots of error) I probably have spent more money on PVs and consumables than I would have on smokes. But now that I have the hardware I like, I'm to the point where all I need is juice and cartos, both of which are reasonable if you find the right vendors.

VOLT plug...just a fan and happy user...if I would have started with a VOLT I would have saved a ton on all that trial and error crap.

I smoked 2 pad for 35 years. Tried everything..the patch, pills, hypnosis ... I pretty much gave up trying to quit. I knew I found an answer the first time I saw someone with an e-cig. I took my time with it...over a year switching from cigs to vaping...and another six months going from 24mg/ml to 0 nic.

I don't think people should put pressure on themselves to quit analogs immediately and go 100% to vaping. You didn't learn to smoke in one day. Take your time and allow your body to adjust (and get accustomed to the equipment and possible eqiupment failures).

I found out that I was addicted to all the other stuff in cigs more than the nic.

Anyway, the answer is yes...e-cigs can definately help you quit smoking. It can also help you cut back. And, once you do quit smoking and quit vaping (if that's what you want) you can always keep a zero nic e-cig around for lifes emergencies.

The first month was crazy expensive for me though, buying several different batteries, atomizers, juices, then I moved up to Reo mods so that meant more batteries, more atomizers. All in all I spent a bit over $1k in a month
Yep...it can be very expensive. I'd like to see all distributors of ecigs making buying for a beginner as simple as possible. I got sucked into buying an un-genuine eGo Tank Kit. It was horrible and so were the juices they supplied. There needs to be a law against people trying to make money from selling crap ecig supplies. I'm still smoking because I had to order supplies from overseas. The supplies still have not arrived yet.

I smoked for a week or so. Then I got a dual coil cartomizer to go on my kGo 1100mAh. Never smoked another. After a few weeks, I tried lighting one for my wife. That was nasty. Not bad going in, but like licking an ashtray on exhale.

Its surprizing how easy it is to be around other smokers. My wife still smokes, and it really doesn't bother me. I am not like, "Get that nasty thing away from me." or sending her outside. It really doesn't make me want one, and it isn't nasty either. I don't ever see myself picking back up the habit. I don't really see myself vaping in ten years, but for now, it is awesome.

*fires up some French Toast* Yep, smoking is so yesterday.

I can relate!

I was a culinary major in high school and am a bit of a foodie so i have an appreciation for the odd or unique flavors. The only reason i dont have a more that one day all day vape is because my taste buds get bored really quick. I'm more of a flavor of the day kind of person.

DYI should be right up your ally!

Well, I hope I can eventually get to vaping successfully. I spent the last 4 weeks reading all about vaping and only now am beginning to make some progress. I found out that atomizers were bad for me and invested in some LR cartomizers. I have my hardware set up OK now. All I need now is some good flavored juices and some juices with nicotine in them too.

"Get your Bloog on! USA
I also quit smoking on the first day I received my vape kit - there are many but I went with Bloog and never had the urge to smoke an analog or to look at all the vaping mods and gadgets. It's the tried and true 808D-1 style auto battery and makes clouds of vapor. Very satisfying once I found the flavor for me.

It's been 3 1/2 months since I laid down analogs and I feel GREAT. My lung capacity is so much better - after a few days it actually felt like my lungs were half again as long. I don't get colds or sinus infections as much as I used to and my sense of smell has returned as well as my taste buds. The taste buds did go through a wild ride while they changed - you'll see ; ).

Best of luck. My hubby quit with me and that of course helped. He had a harder time than me and smoked a few analogs for 2 weeks until we found the right strength nic for him which was HIGH at 36mg, however he had been a 2 pack a day Marlboro Red smoker for 30 years that hotboxed to the filter. He's happy that we found an all day vape (Vapor Station Frisco (555) and even though we don't use the same strength in a pinch us using the same flavor has been handy.

If you get juice you don't like there is a thread to either give it away or exchange it with others. Watch ECF for sales from various juice vendors they usually have some really cheap sales from time to time.

Best of luck to you and happy vaping to you!

This thread is full of "immediate quitters" but that is certainly not the case for everyone.
So with that in mind, there are some things you should know so you don't get discouraged if you aren't one of them.

The addiction to nicotine is NOT the only problem for some people....
You will not know if you are one of those people before you start, so just be aware of that for now.

Some people find that they really NEED the MAOIs or some of the other alkaloids in tobacco besides the nicotine.
If you later determine that you are one of those people, just know that there are things that can help solve those issues.

Not everyone quits smoking immediately...
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/polls/80124-how-long-did-take-you-stop-smoking.html

Some people quit instantly, without even trying, or even wanting to.
Some people quit instantly but struggle a bit for awhile.

But some take days or weeks or even months to quit, and some even longer.
And some people need to find a way to replace some of the other things in tobacco that are missing.

But just know this, nearly everyone who buys an electronic cigarette has an excellent chance to quit smoking.
And if you run into problems, there are not many problems that can not be solved with the help you can find at this forum.

And once you solve the problems, should you have any, the rest is easy.

You HAVE to want to 'not smoke'
I don't agree that you HAVE to want to not smoke.
There are tons of poeple who quit easily, without ever wanting to.

What you do have to do is figure out what YOU get from smoking, and what you need from vaping.
And that means finding whatever the right equipment is for you, and whatever juice(s) make you happy.

Some people that don't want to quit get lucky and find all of that right away.
And some people that really want to quit bad take quite awhile to find all of that.
And there is every shape, color, and size in between.

This thread is full of "immediate quitters" but that is certainly not the case for everyone.

Sometimes it can feel like it's the whole forum. There are a number of reasons for this starting with the fact that those "Day 1 quitters" are super excited about the ease with which they replaced cigs altogether ( and as they well should be) and are thus going to be much more vocal about it as it's such great news. Conversely, those that struggle are much more likely to just lurk and keep quiet about it and wonder what's wrong with them and/or their gear. And I also feel like those latter folks can be further discouraged by the "OMG I opened the box and 5 minutes later was flushing my cigarettes in utter astonishment!" posts. I know I was at first. So I like to pipe in (no pun) and say hey some of us do still smoke even though we love vaping. Like dude above said "it's not magic" tho also like above you don't absolutely HAVE to want to quit like with many other methods. Nothing else would have me smoking like half what I used to without even trying that's for sure.
