Trixie doesn't freak out over baths, but she will give you the impression she's being led off to the gallows.

apparently there's not many dog lovers on ECF

I'm a dog lover! I just joined a little while ago, though and just saw this thread (which I haven't read yet, but will later when I have time - I love to see other people's dogs!).

Here's my vicious, snarling DoberDiva, Zipper:

Oh, wait. She's NOT vicious or snarling at all. In fact, she's such a weenie, the kitties steal her toys and she expects ME to get them back for her. ROFL! She's silly, but I love her to pieces.

Awwww, I love singin' with the doggies! The two girls we have now have absolutely NO inclination to sing along with their silly humans if we start howling, but my now deceased bestest buddy used to howl at the drop of a hat. He was so cute! When we watched Jurassic Park (forget which one) where the baby T. rex has a broken leg and is yelling for its mom, Flash (the dog) would lift his nose, make a little "O" out of his mouth and start the most mournful howling. We'd have to join in then, which just got him going more, and then the other dog would start. I miss those boys a LOT. I wish they could live forever.

I was just thinking about the way people name their dogs.

Most of my dogs had "people" names (an extension of anthropomorphizing, which I'm good at lol)

A few had unique "dog" names.

I'm wondering about my own motives for the names... anthropomorphizing aside.

I also recall having a lesson in why to not use "people" names a about 30 yrs ago and I still do it anyway...

My dog's name was Bonnie. She was a doxie mix, not sure what else. Tiny little thing - and so adorable! - when I got her, so I called her Bonita (Spanish for "pretty") for a while, and it became Bonnie.

Right after new neighbors moved in, I was outside calling for Bonnie and the new neighbor lady came out and gave me a weird look. I thought maybe I had woken her from a nap or something. This happened maybe 2 more times before I finally got to know the new neighbor - Bonnie! LOL She told me she thought I was messing with her until the 2nd or 3rd time, then realized it was my dog's name. Then she didn't know how she felt about sharing a name with my dog.

Midnight Lightning is a Jimi Hendrix song.
My wife didn't like the sound of ....head so she said "how about Midnight?"
She has a lightning bolt down her chest so Midnight Lightning.
"Move over Rover, let Jimi take over" in Fire refers to a naughty part of that song.

She's high. 40' high.

LOL... Great story

Most of my dogs I have given non-people names (IE: Billet, Rebel, etc).

One of my current dogs we picked up from a shelter. Previous owners just gave up on her, and took her to the shelter. She was already named Hannah. She was 2 years old at the time, so obviously she had already accepted that name. So we kept it.

My other current dog is Lexi. In 2010 Hurricane Alex hit Mexico. Where we live, we were on the outer edge of the rain bands, so we had a lot of rain and flooding that day. I drive a lifted Jeep which isn't affected much by high water, so we went out driving to see the damage. That's when we found Lexi- 8 weeks old, stuck in an empty field that was surrounded by water. We considered naming her Alex (after the Hurricane), but that is the name of my best friend's daughter, so that didn't seem like a good idea LOL. We settled on Alexis, but within a week or two we started calling her Lexi (for short), and that stuck.
