Shelter dogs are the only ones for me ... my landlord/friend volunteers at the shelter and was on the look out for a Lab for me.

Black dogs are the hardest to get adopted it seems.... they call it Black Dog Syndrome :/

Marley (dog in my avatar and signature) my dog who passed I found on the side of the road in the rain in an industrial area of Los Angeles 6-8 weeks old.

Maggie is good dog and has such a rough life now ... ;)

LOL! I can tell!

I'd only just recently heard about that Black Dog Syndrome. I LOVE black dogs, and have had many. Give me my 'druthers, and I'll pick black every time. But whatever color they are, if they need me, they come home with me. All the dogs I've had have all had some sort of quirk, personality-wise, either really goofy, or really smart (like, smarter than ME! LOL!), or dog agressive, or cat chasers, or whatever. Seems like there's always something.

The best dog I ever had, though, for being JUST A DOG, just a plain old DOG, was a black Lab we called Thumper. He got his name because when he slept, and dreamed, he always wagged his tail and thumped the floor. Other dogs twitch and bark and grumble and so on in their sleep, but good ol' Thumper just wagged his tail. He never chased a cat, he was good with kids and adults and dogs and EVERYONE, he always had a big smile on his face, and the happiest moment of his day was breakfast time. I loved that dog SO much! He originally belonged to my ex-husband's sister, but when she had to move and couldn't take a big dog, she asked if I'd take him (I have a big neon "SUCKER" sign on my forehead) and of course I said yes.

The previous house we lived in had low windows, and sometimes he'd just push the screen out of an open window and jump out. But he never ran off. I'd come home and find him waiting patiently by the front door to be let back in, or lounging in the shade under the pickup if it was a hot day. He was my Big Black Goofy Dog.

I hope you have many wonderful years with Maggie. :D

Fascinating...
How does that even happen?
:pervy:
hahahaha... ..... some say it is a virus that is contracted from shovelling kitty poo :D Studies have found that mice who contract toxiplasmosis...the active virus that may be present in soil and kitty poo ...these mice are more prone to not be afraid of cats ...and thus meet their early demise . So , yes..it is a sneak-attack way for cats to take over the world.
I always suspected they were not of this Earth anyway ...All those times cats get blamed for walking on keyboards and causing bad things to happen??? They are no doubt trying to contact their Mother Shipo_O
Seriously ....one got dumped on me by a neighbor up in Alaska 10 years ago.... I took pity on the thing ..my first cat EVER ...she came with me to Nevada...and is hanging out in a dark closet somewhere as we speak.
....at the time ..and many years since...I worked alot of 14hr rotating shifts.... Having had dogs all my Life, it just worked out better to leave the cat with clean kitty litter , food and a bowl of water and be able to take off for a weekend whenever I wanted :D.
And yes, I have no doubt fallen prey to the "virus" ...

Oh, that face! And those FEET! I love big dogs. She's gonna be a handful for sure. Good thing you're still young! LOL!

O yeah ... We are looking forward to it :) We have an 8 year old Saint Bernard now that we've had since she was 8 weeks old. We figured it would be the perfect time to get a new puppy so our Saint teaches her how to be "lazy". We also have 2 kids (ages 2 & 3.5) ... So, she is being raised in a loud & crazy household with a large sister :) She's been doing great so far!

Since I just downloaded a couple of current dog pics, here's one of our Famously Stoopid Dobie, Zipper. She is intently waiting to see if the chicken sitting on the back of the chair (looong story) is going to drop a snack for her. Oh, my, it's her favorite thing in the whole world, and that chicken is her personal automatic snack dispenser. o_O (Well, hey, this way at least *I* don't have to clean it up...)

And the Deputy of the place and my right hand, errr... paw, Missy:

01-16-16 Missy.jpg

Missy was found running with a chewed off length of rope around her neck in New Mexico by one of our neighbors when they were down there building a second house (they're snowbirds). So naturally, they picked her up and brought her HERE, because "WE LIKE DOGS." I'm not sure what breed she is (it's NOT German Shepherd, regardless of her markings, trust me), but I'm thinking there's probably some Malinois blood in her. I think maybe she used to belong to a family who was on vacation and they had her tied up and she escaped or something. She was already spayed, although only about a year old when we got her. Knew all her basic commands, housebroken, the whole bit.

In any case, she's smarter than any dog should be, and she needs a job, but I don't have one to give her, unfortunately. So she rides herd on the cats and makes sure Zipper doesn't snuffle any fuzzy butts when the cats don't want her attentions. She's smart and she's strong willed, and it seems like I'm always having to remind her that I'M the boss, and she's the helper. But I love her, and seriously, I'd rather have one with smarts than one with no brains at all. But I love Zipper, too, in spite of the fact that she only has three functioning brain cells. Poor thing.
