Non-smokers used to grumble to smokers about having to deal with smelling stinky cigarette smoke. You then switch to vaping, which if it has any odor it is pleasant yet they still grumble  …. They automatically assume that it is as harmful as smoking as they have been propagandized.
I have to disagree. I vape, I mix flavours for other people and occasionally use flavours myself but I cant stand the lingering odour of 2nd hand vapour. There is something off about it that I cant explain.
Some vapers think that the taste and smell is delicious and seem to like to share it around like its the coolest thing ever but I dont think they realize how sickly and off their vape can smell to other people.

There are dozens and dozens more. Tobacco adds additional addictive issues including other chemicals in the soup, but there's plenty of evidence nicotine has all the properties of an addictive substance.

Nicotine Addiction

Nice summary both human and animal studies both tobacco and nicotine biochemical and genetic basis for addictive qualities and propensity variations in populations.
Thanks, Eskie- I've got my homework. :)

Interesting observation... I have always had people tell me how nice it smelled compared to when I smoked... Cigarette smoke is what most people consider to be foul and offensive. Not only the smell, but the second-hand smoke is unhealthy... When you smoke, everything around you absorbs the nasty odor... I used to have people shy away from me even when I wasn't smoking because they said my cloths smelled like cigarettes. I can't imagine how vapor could be anywhere as irritating as cigarette smoke with it's thousands of nasty and toxic chemicals.

I get it, I understand. When I first started vaping I vaped with flavours and thought they were great.

All the rest about stinking cigs has nothing to do with stinky vape juice. Not everyone that vapes realise that their inhaled and then expelled vape juice can actually be quite a sickly smelling odour for a lot of bystanders.

If you have ever been stuck somewhere and are forced to listen to someone elses terrible music, thats exactly what it it is like for some people to have to put up ith someone elses vape spew. :)

Thanks, Eskie- some of it was interesting reading.:thumb: Nice to actually see studies done, but nothing nearly as conclusive as one would think after all these decades. I mean, nicotine of course has some level of addictive properties, depending on how addictive is defined. I'd love to see a side by side study with caffeine.
1st link- just a statement in an abstract from 2001, no real info there. It's been widely noted that there are real problems with nicotine studies from that era.
2nd link- another abstract, 2012, no study available without purchase. It refers to the problems from earlier studies. States Initial attempts at establishing nicotine self-administration had been problematic. Then has a statement saying: increasingly reliable models of nicotine self-administration have been developed. But I didn't want to purchase to see more.
3rd link- Really good info. Nice review of a pretty exhaustive study, but has a few its own problems, really. Work is done on genetically mutated mice, that don't really respond like wild mice anymore, but respond similar to humans, so it is considered to further legitimize the study.
Interesting, though, that it also points out how different nicotine "addiction" is compared to any other drug: comparatively miniscule withdrawal, no decreased sensitivity/escalating usage, only fractionally as addictive as opiates, alcohol, ........ As an addictive drug, it seems to stand alone in those respects.
4th link- only deals with tobacco related nicotine.

Have you seen any trials done with non-smoking humans? That would be interesting.

For me, fresh is the operative word. Freshly lit cigarette - still smells okay, I guess - not terrible anyway. Someone walking back into the restaurant after smoking...not so good. Most juices smell pretty good in the bottle, and even freshly exhaled. My son's room a day after he and his friends had cloud chasing sessions in there - again, not so good. Like a nice cologne- ever smell a woman who habitually over applies, and it seeps into her coat? I had a salesman who worked for me in the 80's, and he apparently loved Polo. I liked it okay. But every morning when he walked in, his sports coats reeked of stale Polo. (I almost still gag thinking about it).

Like I said b4, interesting observation …. I have never observed what you have mentioned however... Probably because I have never really vaped around very many people as I live in a remote place and keep off to myself. The people I have vaped around have always told me how good smelling that the vapor is. I have never once had anyone tell me that the odor is foul or that it stinks..... That's not to say that there are not people who complain as I am sure there are.... It's just never happened to me (yet) … As for smoking tobacco, I cannot stand the smell of those nasty things nowadays. It is hard for me to believe that I smoked those nasty things for 40 years. To myself, they just plain stink.

Dr. Oz has the same deal running with sponsorship of all sorts of "nutritional supplements" that will cure everything from athlete's foot to chronic fatigue syndrome. Fortunately he's under investigation by the state licensing board as it's become an abuse of the public trust.

People using the title Dr shouldn't be pimping products of questionable and in some cases harmful products, especially when they may lead to misdiagnoses and delays in actual medical care that is effective.

It's just a personal hatred of mine for for selling out for the dollars at the expense of people's health. Traveling miracle cure shows were supposed to be a thing of the past, when barkers traveled from town to town selling crap and skeddadling away before the townsfolk realized they'd been hustled.

Are you sure they're products he has actually endorsed? I know he always has a warning message on his TV show, about being wary of advertisements for products that are supposedly endorsed by him (they even use his name & photo in the ad)...that really aren't. He advises viewers to go to his website to see what few he actually does endorse.

    Slimy.

Oz reminds me of Mr. Haney (Green Acres). That "thing" he does, pretending to not "endorse" things, drives me up a wall. Technically he's not endorsing them, but he knows exactly what he's doing.

"Dr. Phil" should be in jail too (IMO). Useless creatures in society. No shortage, we.

    Rant over - sorry. :\

Thanks, Ax, but you're biased, and I'm cranky - and taking it out on poor Drs. Phil & Oz. ;)
