So I just got done talking to the manager at my local vape shop and this is what he told me: VTR is not good for dripping because it only goes to 15w and you really need over 20. He recommended some, and I don't recall the name, tyrex v3 twist, for about $140 with a rda and 18350 imr battery. I just don't know if I want to spend $150 on something that I would just show off with. I enjoy my VTR right now.

I have no clue what a "tyrex v3 twist" is. My opinion is no... honestly you can buy an ohm meter, sony vtc 5, copper nemesis clone, nitecore i4 charger and a good RDA for less than $140. Oh and also kanthal and organic cotton too...

Can you recommend an affordable device for occasional use?

Best thing for you to spend your time doing right now is research... spend ALOT of time researching battery safety. You will roll across the mods that people use a lot. Hell if anything you can pre-order a P4U IPV v2 which goes up to 50 watts and is still regulated.

I'm sorry if that came out harsh, I still need my coffee, I know your intentions are great and you are just looking up for a fellow vaper here
but let's look at it this way

a good regulated device has all the built in features for safety that you need to learn on a mech. it has an amp limit well bellow normal batteries so a high drain is kind of redundant as you won't use its power (sure thay are better and will last much more charge cycles but if you have batts already just use those and won't have an issue)

some are afraid to start dripping or building because all the warnings and safety issues but these don't really apply to regulated mods.

No worries.
I get that, however in this case he not just wanting to start dripping but cloud chasing to show off for friends. Which is fine but if you are going to be pushing anything to its limits I would still suggest that he look in to battery saftey. He isnt going to blow couds on his VTC. Thats what Im getting at.

I never would have stated stuff like that for someone who is just looking at getting in to dripping on a VTC as it wouldnt matter.

An RDA is just a dripping atty. An RBA usually refers to an atty with a tank such as a Genesis style or a Kayfun etc.

Just as everyone has said. The RDA is a rebuildable atty without a tank its sole purpose is for dripping. The RBA is a rebuildable atty with a tank.

Actually, the acronym RBA is inclusive of all rebuildables hence the acronym which stands for ReBuildable Atomizer.

Of course RDA stands for Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer.

However, when it comes to rebuildable tanks the acronym you're looking for is RTA (Rebuildable Tank Atomizer).

you won't blow cloudchasing clouds but you will defintly blow much more than your current. get a cheap dripper and test the waters yourself.

I was happy with my zmax v3 and my evods but just out of curiosity I bought a dripper, I haven't looked back since, now I drip 98% of the time and it was the best decision that I've made

Thank you to everyone for the responses. I am the type of person that does tons of research before buying and I am all about safety. I am not jumping into anything, just asking questions and I appreciate everyone answers. So the main difference in a "dripping mod" and my VTR is wattage and being able to sub ohm?

I have read you don't go back, but I just bought 2 nautilus and 2 areotanks.... Would be a waste of tanks.

You can use an RDA on the regulated devise that you have. You just can't sub-ohm. If you're wanting to get into "cloud chasing" you will need new gear.

Some average cost through local B&M's....

Mechanical mod... $45-$60
RDA (dripper)... $25
(2) Sony VTC4 or 5 batteries (or similar)... $15
Quality charger... $20 - $30
100 ft kathal wire... $7
Bag of organic cotton... $4
Multimeter... $20 -$30
Misc tools for wrapping coils... +/-$20
Knowledge of ohms-law and battery safety.... PRICELESS

Starting out fresh, you're gonna be in the $150 range. Of course, you can find these things cheaper through online sources.

The VTR is only gonna let you go so low. A mech mod is gonna let you go subohm, the regulated mods let you up the wattage (I dont use regulated vv/vw mods save MVP so I will let someone else chime in on that). Thats a kinda sorta short explaination on it. Im not get long winded how the watts, amps, volts interact.

Eh I drip at the house and use the tanks when Im at work or running around.

Yeah, I wouldn't say "you never go back". That's just not true in some/most cases. I have mech mods and I have drippers, several of each, and I prefer my RBA's (Kayfun's) on my Cana DNA 30 devise, hands down.

Having to stop and drip often and always worrying about dry hits is a pain. IMO.

Here's my VTR with THE Dripper PRO (1.9 ohm coil) .. good flavor and nice vapor with 100% VG set at 4.2 watts. Not as good as on my ProVari but it certainly works very well.

Try a Kayfun lite plus or Russian 91%

There was no going back from that for me. :)

Drippers are okay, but a fine tuned KFL+ is awesome! IMO

I am with you on that. Dont get me wrong I love my dripper and I use all over the house. But the flavor I get off my kayfun is top notch. Its night and day compaired to the areotank and the like.
