Grommets fine, though a bit sloppy after 2 weeks of heavy vaping. Definitely inside the tube. Used shrink wrap to cover middle 2/3 of center post and continuity gone. Recoiled, reading 1.4 ohms and fires fine. Going to look for a PTFE tube to replace grommets and insure no contact in tube going forward. Shrink wrap will work, but looking for a less cludgey solution and I'll do all three of my DUDs.

Hey brother, if you have a Fry's Electronics near you they have some thin wall PTFE tubing assortment packs the have a few pieces of a few different diameters for around $3. Can't seem to find it on their website but I no for a fact it's in the store.

If you can't find any easily just lemme know and I can just send you some.:thumb:

Experimental! 100mesh (yes 100mesh/149micron mesh :2cool:, 400 mesh is 37micron for reference) bluegrasslovers style cotton wick wrap.

WARNING:This stuff is so thick it can cut your fingers badly so use gloves for safety, especially getting the rolling started/crease part. (if you go full on stupid like me :p )

Thank you, tattooed for inspiring me to go 8 wraps :vapor: & spraintz for his solution suggestion that got me to finally use the bluegrasslovers wick trick as I tried & was getting frustrated @ many failed attempts to get this thick mesh to oxidize, worked like a charm. "The Merv" egg I bought, finally hatched into "The Griffin" I was sold. Now providing me my best vapes yet, out of this little gizmo.

It seemed like I could never oxidize my wick enough, I was always getting shorts. Not sure if I had crappy mesh or what. After trying the cotton trick I got a pretty good coil the first try.

I kept knocking the method because I was afraid of cotton burning, but this stuff wicks so good--that's not going to happen.

Did you check discountvapers? I know they got some "spare parts" in kit form.

So I've managed to lose one of the nuts on this thing and one of the screws. It still works but now I'm short of parts to the point where if I lose anymore I'm SOL. Anyone know of some decent part alternatives?

You could try hunting some down, but they really aren't needed. If you look at the second post up, see the little silver grommet like things? Technically, eliminating one or even two of the stock nuts will enhance the airflow past the wick. Additionally, you really don't need the fill hole plug either, I just leave them off. I'm going to head out today to see if I can find these little silver grommet things, and then stack them like it shows on the second pic here. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-systems/334958-dud-builds-2.html#post7337266. Hmmm, bead grommets, maybe Michael's?

I should be getting one of these today from COV. Looking forward to messing with it. I've got a ZAP but I'm still using the coil/wick that came pre-installed, so this will be my first attempt at setting up RBA. I am curious if Pyrex would be suitable to make a tank from? I have a shop nearby that can make some tubes to my spec. I notice every tank I see is fused quartz or plastic.

Well guess I should re-phrase that, they can cut the tube to whatever length I need and flame polish the ends smooth. I'm going to measure mine as soon as I get it and see if there is tubing that matches the id of the stock tank. Specialty Glass, Inc. is the name of the shop, and looking closer at there tubing catalog they offer fused quartz as well. Specialty Glass, Inc. Laboratory Glass New Lab Glass Glass Repairs and Custom Thermoplastic Fabrication I'll post an update once I have some more info.

I see that, thanks. I guess the person running the shop says the kits is way overpriced and better parts can be had from a hardware store, just curious as to what those parts are. Maybe I just need to take a look local but $3.50 doesn't really seem all that overpriced if it saves me the hassle.

it was pointed out that the lip on the top and bottom part is rather thin and will not accept a thicker-walled tube like glass, quartz or pyrex

Ya, I saw that on the site, Tibs. Going to see what the finished product looks like with these 'CHIDs'. No loss, I'll just make them into other tanks if they don't work.

the ibtank tube is not a good fit - tube is wider than the metal parts. i don't like that look at all ....

Hey guys, I got my DuD today from discount vapers. I'm using it on a provari, but I keep getting OP errors, and I'm trying to figure out if it is defective or a user error.

I built my mesh coil using the cotton batten method (I oxidized it before fluffing the cotton on). Wrapped a pretty coil and then tried to fire it up and I got an OP. Then I tightened up some screws and still got an op. To troubleshoot, I took the wick and coil off and ran a straight wire from the positive to the negative.. OP. Pictures are at the end of this post. Do you guys have the same issue? Or is your post at the bottom flush with the connector?
