junkman, just keep tweakin it, you'll get it. This thing can make clouds just as good as my $140 BliSS. Keep in mind that a lot of factors have to be working together to get that perfect vape but once you have it.....you have it and it's easy to repeat.

Air hole position
wick thickness
wick length
size of mesh
type of juice
type of wire
voltage setting
coil wrapped tight enough
no shorts

That seems like a lot but a small change in one or more of that can make big differences. This is the same for any atomizer of this type so it's not just a DuD thing, trust me I make crazy vapor clouds with mine.

Keep workin with it and you will find that "ah-ha" moment. :toast:

Yeah, I will keep trying.

Speaking of which - My mod said use "protected batteries only" which I was. I just switched out to an IMR battery I have and now it is hitting like crazy. When it says "protected batteries only" is IMR ok?

Also, do protected batteries mess with my watts or why is the experience so different?

I have 10 Duds 4 came with black plastic mouthpieces and 6 with silver metal mouthpieces. Are these built by different factories?
I believe they are my griffin and the ones i just got from coop are slightly different although both have same mouthpiece.
The top cap is a tad shorter on the Griffin when put side by side with the coop one.
The coop one if you look closely you will see a tiny tiny hole on the threaded knurl thats were the wick hole is and when screwing down the top cap the top caps airhold aligns with it.
That tiny hole in the knurl does not go thru as i was curious and stuck a piece of kanthal into it.
The vape is great with these .

Wick length in tank seems to be good to go to the bottom.

How about wick length up top? Would a shorter top wick be better? I don't think I can go taller, as the wick now is even with the center post, above that and I believe I would hit the cap.

length at the top isn't as important, just make sure it's the length of the tank and that the top isn't touch the top cap.

Yeah, I will keep trying.

IMR batteries are designed to handle a higher/quicker discharge rate. This is why they are recommended/required for variable voltage/wattage devices. I have however used IMR's in a straight mechanical mod with no issues.

If you are using a variable device you are much safer with an IMR battery and yes, it could be making performance better is it's discharge rate can actually keep up.

My DUD seems to be working fine but I get less vapor from it than my gripper with a 1.7 cart. I have messed around with coils to try to find more vapor. Tried 6 coils, 5 coils, 4 coils and now at 3 coils. 3 coils gives me 1.3 ohms. 6 was about 2.5ohms.

It vapes fine, seems like it takes a few seconds to kick in though. Wicking doesn't seem to be the problem as the wick is always looking damp. I have no hotspots and can keep it on power for as long as I dare without any hotspots, like 15 seconds. The vapor seems to get better the longer the hit, but I would like a quicker hit.

I was hoping to get more vapor from this than using a cartomzier on the gripper. Maybe that is a tall task or am I doing something wrong.
Is your wick lined up with the hole on the top cap? If so and still low vapor, try opening up the hole a tiny bit.
One last thought,if u have a multimeter put the leads on the +/- posts and fire it to make sure you're getting enough voltage to the posts. You may need to lengthen the center post. My gripper worked fine but my vari-cool box wouldn't connect until I adjusted the center post.

Will DID clear tanks work with the DUD? Cisco has some on his avidvaper.com site and was debating whether to pull the trigger on one. It lists two sizes - a standard and a mini. Which one would work?

Neither will work with the DUD, they are totally different dimensions.

.

Not sure what you mean? The hole in the top cap has very little room under it and it is all occupied by the center post? Oh - never mind, you mean the small hole in the side - yes I line that up with the wick.

I just tested and got 2.99 volts vs. 3.73 on the battery......maybe the problem?

That's been mentioned a time or 2. JB Weld to fill the original hole. Some have just added an additional o-ring, or a larger o-ring. Me, I just don't crank the top on all the way tight. I stop when it aligns with the wick... the existing o-ring maintains a proper seal.

Has anyone thought or tried to drill a new air vent in the cap where it would be right on the wick and either leave the existing one or sealing it? I wish I had 2 of them to try it.

Thanks Count. I did do a bunch of searches but nothing really seemed to help. Im doing the same thing and its working great just wish it was a tighter fit.

I would think that the new properly threaded caps with the larger air hole would be available in the near future now that they're being sold in the newest kits. I don't know that for sure, but it seems logical.

I would have to agree but I just got this and it was new to the vendor so I would have assumed this is the newest cap. Weird. Maybe I got the one bad one. LOL. All is ok still as this is still by far my favourite piece so far. I took the usual twists/Vivi setups to work today and just wasn't the same. Couldn't wait to get home.

Which vendor? I got mine from Mountain Oak Vapor, and they just sent me an email a couple days ago notifying me that my model was already out of date  So, they must've just gotten them in this week so that could be why yours isn't that way. MOV is also claiming that those changes were made per their request, but I'd be pretty surprised if their new model wasn't the same one other vendors are getting/have gotten. And I know the feeling you're talking about. I've already gotten so accustomed to the thick voluminous vapor that I can barely do anything else other than direct drip without feeling cheated. I can only imagine the extent to which that'll be the case when I actually get one up and running reliably with a better mesh wick system that'll feed my 4 second double pulls without me having to do a bunch of mid drag tipping.

Got mine from Canvape up here in Canada. Amazing vendor who come through every time and can't say a bad thing about them. I may inquire about ordering another cap on the next order if thats possible.

Im obviously very new to RBAs and don't know if what Im doing is the best it can be. I highly doubt, still there is a great reward when you can see that beautiful cloud cover the computer screen as your trying to read. How do you find the battery life and amount that you have to fill the tank? Im at 3.6 battery and Im about to change for a new one before filling for the second time. Im getting a slight burnt taste and I have read that RBAs love to suck the juice and batteries much quicker.

Ah, yes. I've seen VaporChase review things from them many times and always has good things to say. (Excellent YouTube reviewer, btw. And I'm sure that's especially the case if you live in Canada like he does.)

The battery life is really just going to be a function of the total power output and how much you use it. With my working coil/wick I'm at around 2ohms, and I really like pushing that at like 4.8v so that's a pretty significant power draw. I can't think of any reason it would use more battery life than any other 2ohm atty at that voltage. As far as juice goes, yeah, it'll probably go through more juice per minute than other devices, but that is going to be largely a tradeoff of having more, thicker vapor. I'm guessing the overall volume of vapor produced per ounce of juice is pretty similar to other things, but, as you said, how can one go back to wimpy vapor? :)

Clear tanks should be available form vendors selling this device pretty soon for better keeping an eye on the juice level, but until then you'll have to just trust your tastebuds and then pull the cap off and trust your eyes. If you notice some hits that were great before that are now coming up dry/hot/burnt then pull the cap and see if the wick is as wet as usual and if it rewets as fast as before when you fire it. If not, it's probably empty.

Thanks for your responses. I appreciate your input and advice. Just filled up and its heaven again. And yes VaporChase has some very good videos. At the rate Im going Im not sure there is one from any reviewer that I haven't seen. :D I should probably cut the grass at some point and have a shower. Put this thing down for a bit.

I'm glad I could help. I'm just another genisis rookie, but it sounds like I got about a week head start on you :p I'm sure in the future you'll be providing me with insights. (Especially if I can't get this 400 mesh and 34g wire on my next setup to stop misbehaving  )

Thankfully I'm not responsible for lawn care currently, and I'm hoping that the robotic devices become commonplace and affordable by the time I am so it doesn't rudely interrupt my vaping :)
