Not sure what you mean? The hole in the top cap has very little room under it and it is all occupied by the center post? Oh - never mind, you mean the small hole in the side - yes I line that up with the wick.

I just tested and got 2.99 volts vs. 3.73 on the battery......maybe the problem?
Put batts in,fire the device with probes on box center pin and outer rim. get reading. If it reads same as battery screw the clone into device, place probes on +/- Posts fire it again, if it reads low than it's most likely the clones center post not making good contact with the battery connector, loosen the nuts, adjust center post, tighten the nut up and fire the device(take a multimeter reading). Let us know if that does it.

Using the mesh & wire that came with mine, I end up with a 1.4-1.7Ω coil, and it really ROCKS on the little 3.7v box mod I use when mowing the grass. :D

Can't wait for the 33 awg wire & 400 mesh I ordered off ebay to get here. Hoping to get up to 2.2-2.5Ω to use w/ my ProVari.

...
Thankfully I'm not responsible for lawn care currently, and I'm hoping that the robotic devices become commonplace and affordable by the time I am so it doesn't rudely interrupt my vaping :)

Hopefully you don't end up regretting getting higher resistance wire like I did  I bought some 34g kanthal and now wish I had more 32g (and I will early next week, haha.) I was also shooting for the mid-2's and initially thought I couldn't achieve that with the 32, but now I know I easily can if I wrap things a bit more closely which, theoretically, should make for a better overall vaporization since the coil will be covering more wick area and there won't be big gaps between coils.

my only problem with trying to use 32g at 2.5ohm or higher is that I had so many wraps on there that the whole atomizer would get really really hot cause I had to push so much power to it. Any more that 5 maybe 6 wraps on 32g starts to get pretty hot. 3/4 wraps and 4/5 wraps are where it's at.....at least for me...

I now find that I am starting to like the 2ohm or less type of resistance and I have ordered more 32g

Reading though this thread it seems the best performance has been acheived with the heavier guage wire. With my 34ga NiCr I have 4 ohms with an 8 wrap coil, and it just doesn't make for a good vape, typically just harsh burning vapor. So I'm running rolled cotton gauze at the moment and its super.

After vaping for a few hours, the coil gets a nice coating of carbon on it. I slid my original problematic stainless wick into it and it worked straight away with no shorts. Still not as good as the gauze. But my point is, seasoning the coil with a cotton wick may help some folks when installing a new coil.

Lots of great tips in this thread, thanks everyone!

OK, got 4.07 on my battery and the mod, with 3.2 on the DUD. Adjusted center pin so it is now proud of the threads but still getting 3.2.

So this is a consistent result with previous test, lost about 0.9v firing the DUD in both cases.

What does it all mean?

You're losing a volt between the top and the bottom of the center post.My only other guess is maybe a tear in the plastic bushing that insulates the center post from it's housing, but if that were the problem I doubt u would be getting 3.2v at the posts.Wish I could be of more help.

Having 2.99 v on a freshly charged 3.7 v battery is a problem. Is the battery right off the charger? It should read (under no load) 4.2. If you have used the battery for a bit then the voltage will slowly drop of course.

Nah, it wasn't right off the charger and after vaping a while. But, I try not to let my batteries hit 4.2 as I read here Charging Lithium-Ion Batteries that full charges put more stress on the battery and shorten lifespan.

I try to pull them around 4.1 if I can which is supposed to give about 92% of the run time but extend the lifespan.

Ok, well thanks for the ideas and help troubleshooting. I may end up taking this thing apart completely and clean and start all over. My wick is getting pretty beat up with all the messing with the post nuts, and the coil is getting sloppy too because moving the post nuts keeps moving the wick.

OK guys - got it now. Took it all apart, cleaned the wick rolled it again, now it was too skinny so added another layer.

Wrapped a new coil, 4 turns. Running about 1.3ohms. It is pumping loads of vapor now, like I wanted!

Flavor isn't quite there with the juice I am using, but maybe that will improve as the coil seasons?

Congrats junkman! I'm light on experience here, but I find the flavor is a bit off/harsh for the first tank-ish. Now...tell me how to make my 400 mesh and 34g wire combo to keep working for more than hour :)

I knew you'd get it.These attys are a little touchy, with all of them it usually takes me a day or two of fooling around with them to get everything the way I want it,but it is worth the effort. Congrats...

when I fill (clear tank or not) I use a syringe and try to get the end of the syringe needle down to the bottom of the tank and fill. This will kinda fill the tank from the bottom up force the air out the fill hole instead of more juice....that make sense?

Yeah, I guess I am going to have to get my hands on a few syringes.

wrapping your wick around a syringe is a great way to go. Makes it more of a "straw" that really wicks nice. Remove the syringe to cut your wick and insert it into the tank of course. I am using 400 mesh with a 1.5 ohm coil on my provari.. it vapes so nice. The DUD's fit perfectly and exactly over a gus mod g16. Those mods are for 14000 series batteries, and it looks so nice on it.

Ck this thread for a great wick for these. I am doing some lab test with 9 DUD's.

Finally achieved that *angels singing* genesis moment today. Tore the stock wick out, cleaned it up, re-did the oxidation process and then did the rolling paper method. Right now I'm vaping spring vapor black label b&m in it & the juice tastes even better than it ever did. Makes darn respectable vapor and its a 70/30 mix. Now I'm just waiting for my ss mesh to arrive and start to learn wick making from scratch.
