How is your Dura doing?

  • Works Great!

  • Works but has a short cutoff (Bad battery: Less than 6 seconds under no load test)

  • My atomizer died.

  • Both have died.

How I do I know what model I have?
Look at your inspection date. (It's on a white card that is in your kit) It can also be told by what time period you bought it. As far as I know everything up to now is the first batch. The new batch (Improved 2nd run) is coming soon. I assume that if you are taking advantage of the current presale you will be getting the 2nd run improved ones.

I'l see it to believe it devon, and if the 2nd run of Dura's have actually and truely been improved then i might! buy another one, although very reluctantly

taleywhacker - I never had a problem with it leaking into my mouth, just all over my hands, my desk, and anywhere else I set it down. It leaked from both the cart-atomizer junction and the holes in the atomizer.

I agree that for the two weeks my Dura worked, it was a great e-cig. Got an email from Jeff today; parts should be in next week.

Hello! I have now been vaping since 10:00 Thursday night, a little over 24 hours now. I believe I have Dura. The box says JoyE510, 20 JAN 2009. My batteries also were blinking when I took them out. A sign of trouble? I hope not. My only other E smoke was a disposable sample. I must say that I absolutely love this item, but I really do not have anything else to compare it to. I watched Parkeds videos while my batteries were charging (thanks Parked!). So far I have a little leaked juice, but that may be due to my inexperience. I am now on my third battery charge, so I am getting about 5 hours on a charge, although one did quit after 3 hours. I smoke three packs of analogs a day, but have only a used one pack in the last 24 hours. I wish I could tell you more, but I have nothing to compare it to. I was about to order another, for my girlfriend, and the extra battery and chargers. Now I will wait and see what is going on with this device. I really hope that everything will be OK with mine, as I can already tell that I would rather E smoke than do three packs of analogs a day.

Now, I've tried not to ask any redundant questions in my previous yet few so please forgive me but here goes;

Should I only charge the batteries 2 to 3 hours after initial charge, as a box implies? Or is it OK to leave them on for more than that. I know that their lithium ion, I use power tools with this technology. My tool batteries do just fine in the charger for days, but then to I think the charger shut itself off.

Could somebody please tell me the best way to clean or blowout the atomizer? I am a little confused!

How much of the battery life is used on the cigarettes coal?

Sorry guys, I am using the voice recognition technology instead of typing. I said the word post, and the dam computer posted before I could finish!

I was about done any ways, just wanted to say thanks to everybody. Sorry for any misspelled words or broken sentences in my previous post, I didn't have time to double check it!

We label our boxes suggesting a 2-3 hour charge. I leave them on over night all the time. We do not advocate this, as ecig chargers are not UL rated and therefore we do not want to be responsible for any kind of fire hazard. If you do leave it on the charger over night, please make sure that it is on a surface that is fire proof and that there is nothing near by that might catch fire. I think the chances of a fire are extremely rare, I am just a cautious person. As far as cleaning the atomizer, I would check this forum for threads on that topic. There is a wealth of knowledge here. Let me know if the batteries do fail, I will replace them, at no extra charge to you, if you actually bought them from me.
BTW, the whole blinking in the box thing used to really bother me. But then I realized it is just that the switch is very sensitive. The blinking will stop after a couple of use cycles.

OK thanks! The batteries only blinked like that when I took them out of the box. Even if I shake them, they do not blink now. I will have to dig deeper about storage and cleaning of the atomizer. I read some, but was still a bit confused.

I ordered with Kurt on the phone, great guy, great service, very helpful. This was my first real E cigarette purchase, besides the disposable, both from VP. Thank you!

taley ... ecig batt's are also not *protected* style batts ... Leaving them on longer than 2-3 hours does MUCH more damage than good.

trickle charging = kills batteries quickly

sorry cash but they are... they have to be.. the charger takes them up to around 4.2 volts then the circuitry in the battery cuts off the charge...

its also the protection circuitry that switches them off when not quite flat..

the low safe point is around 2.7 volts... the high safe point is 4.2 volts..

all lithium cells have to have ether protection circuitry in the charger or the battery..

over charging will kill a lithium cell... so will running them fully flat.. once run fully flat they will not take take another charge and if over charged they might catch fire..

the old charge for 16 hours stuff janty used to come out with is a left over from earlier battery technology.. its nonsense..

its not safe to alway leave them in the charger for one simple reason... the over charge circuitry might fail.. the more rapidly the charger takes place the greater the over charge danger..

slow chargers are less likely to have problems than fast ones..

really expensive chargers have a timer protection circuit built in in case the voltage protection circuit fails.. this is a fire prevention measure...

but all lithium cells need some protection... with normal e cigs its in the battery..

with my SD its in the charger.. but it has to be there.. they are a danger if it isnt..

the SD has no under charge (voltage) protection.. it just relies on the lack of vapour telling the user when to stop running the battery flatter..

trog

ps... if there was no protection circuitry.. most e cig batteries would die the first time the user charged them.. or catch fire.. he he..

ps 2... and it never ceases to amaze me just how lacking in knowledge folks are about something they are using each and every day.. this place has been around for a year and simple things are still not know.. take a bollocking the lot of u..

trog ... not all lith-ion batts come protected. Taking apart a 901/pen batt, I saw no protection on either end, and I highly highly doubt, the cheap finicky chargers from China come with built in protection. I could understand your RCR123 chargers having built in protection if you don't use protected RCR123 batts ...

hmmmm... may need to take apart another battery ... If you have something/picture for reference on a standard ecig batt, would be much appreciated :)

I have the Dura jan. 22 you are referring to. After one week one battery is dead. The best thing about the Dura is the cart life so I have done a 5 minute mod and now use the Dura carts on my DSE103 (that I also have a passthrough for) See my thread I just posted in the "Modders" forum.

Jeff was very quick to respond to my e-mail and is sending a new battery out of the new batch due on the 18th.

its just basic lithium technology cash some kind of protectoin just to has be used..... e cig battery tubes are full of flashing light chippery.. part of that chippery is the shut off charge/discharge protection..

the early e pipe and cigars never had it but its built into the chargers with them.. its two cent cost nothing chips.. the chinese turn them out by the million..

with a bigger cell.. its a little flat circuit board stuck on the end of the cell... again more cost nothing chinese chippery.. they really do make this stuff for nothing..

the price difference between a protected cell and a none protect is none existent..

we use none protected cells with the SD because there isnt much room in there and the little extra plate stuck on the end makes them a tight fit..

charge an unprotected cell without a proper charger and it will catch fire or die..

lithium technology isnt really a safe battery technology its used simple because there is nothing else to do the job of a similar size..

the protection circuit costs nothing.. chips by the million.. a chinese specialty... he he..

they are very very small things.. i think the chinese are miracle workers to be honest.. how the hell they make things as cheap as they do amazes me..

the circuitry does a simple job.. it shuts of the battery from the charger when around 4.2 volts is reached.. it also shuts off the battery when a low voltage of 2.7 volts is reached..

these are not exact figures just ball park figures.. but they are the common ones used..

i cant find another pic at the moment but there is plenty of room in this 901 battery housing for all the tiny chippery..

bat-2.jpg

what we call a battery isnt really a battery its a battery holder.. the little thing in front is the actual lithium cell.. for those who dont know..

trog

ps.. i have a bin full of sawn off ones i can take pics of if i remember.. we dont do it any more but we used to.. just to get the brass end bits..
