Hey Folks,
Just made a trip to Washington DC and back to Daytona and would like to share our experience with E-Cigs:facepalm:

We went through TSA with no problem!! Had my stash in a chewing tobacco can which I converted to carry two 510 batteries and a 30 mil. bottle of e-juice. NO QUESTIONS ASKED:) Mom (My Wife) Had a KR808D which went through with no problem as well:)

Flight: Flew out on US Air and Stealth Vaped all the way which was very cool as it took the edge off(If ya know what I mean!!)

Got to Charlotte airport and stealth vaped the entire time we were there...
Again, No one took notice, but I was concerned about Mom and how she would take a puff and let out a small cloud of vape, but no issue, no one said anything even as close as we were in the crowded bars of an airport bar!!! Just asked her to be a little more stealthy about it and it was cool from there... Caught a United flight to D.C. and stealth again and arrived not ready to punch somebody waiting for the bags to arrive:)

Return: On the return United flight, Mom's KR was running dry (although I didn't smell it) some guy blowing the crap out of his face, said he smelled SMOKE(OMG) after Mom took a hit! Gave her the elbow, and we stopped vaping until we returned to Charlotte.....

Rest of the trip was uneventful and returned with all goodies in hand...

Key to all this is::: Stealth VAPE:vapor: its a lot less hassle:)

Good Vapes~~~~~~~:vapor:

Here is my plan. e-liquids in a plastic bag ready to show. e-sigs and stuff in my carry on.
I plan to descrete vap the whole way. I'll use minty flavors (should have got coffee flavored - maybe they sell it at the airport ;) - well maybe some day. I assume they sell nicotene gum and patches and stuff for those who forgot and are willing to pay airport overhead/profit. I'll take small hits, hold for a long time, nobody will even notice. If they do ask, it is my inhaler. If they want more detail, doctor recommended nicotine inhaler. In the seat I'll tell the person next to me I'll likely have to use my inhaler often during the flight - if it bothers you please let me know, if it does I'll pace the isle when I need it.
I expect absolutely no trouble. I will carry a nic patch with me just in case . . .

As near as I can vaping is not illegal in an airport or plane. No smoking. But nothing about vaping, and nothing about using an over the counter vaporizer. Am I missing something????

Apparently they have e-cig counters in malls now. Why not at the airport? Maybe someday - there is money to be made!

Unless I'm mistaken anything I do that is not against a law, and does not bother others, is OK - right? I think vaporizers with tobacco juice are legal. Is this incorrect?

Hi DK,

You will have no problem getting through security. Just be careful while vaping on the aircraft, even in stealth. It really is best to head to the bathroom and vape in there blowing your vape to the floor when you exhale. Being careful to not get the vapor near the smoke detector as it will go off.

Us flight attendants are very aware of ecigs, of course as I use one myself. But there are airlines that are including classes regarding vapes in their flight attendant annual recurrent training.

While there is no law that says vaping on a plane is illegal, there is one caveat. When you buy a ticket you are agreeing to that airlines contract of carriage. Usually there is something in there about following their rules while onboard. While some airlines clearly state in their safety video or inflight magazine ecig use is prohibited, using it would be a violation. Also, there are Federal Aviation Regulations regarding following instructions given by a crew member... Breaking an FAR can be worse than breaking a law at times, and most airlines will prosecute with the security state we are in.

The best advice I can give is vape in the lav, or stealth at your seat on night flights. If a flight attendant asks you to stop... its in your best interest to do so. Some of us F/A's can be real ....*** and abuse their powers. (Myself not included of course)

If you are ever on one of my flights, come on to the back galley and we can trade eliquids. :)

Have a safe trip.

The only thing I can add to RIA's post is... it is a good idea to carry an info card with you at all times. Not just on aircraft. It can save a lot of time and headache to be able to just show that to who ever the person with authority is that is questioning you about what you're doing.

Some of the vendors print such info on the back of their business cards. I wish all of them did. I have a couple I keep with my credentials.

I believe there's a thread somewhere here regarding providing info cards to those that want one.

I find you post quite disturbing!!! Although you have the right way of going about it(descrete vap) It's the end of your post that troubles me!!!

The last thing you want to do in an airport or an airplane in make any type of stink or an uproar over "your right to do something" !!!! All it takes is ONE PERSON to object to what your doing and your in big trouble!!! As in my case, The guy said (I smell smoke)...

Cops, TSA, Air Marshals, Flight Crews' The public in general, are all looking around for something that's just not right..... Next thing you know your being questioned for something You think or believe is your right!!!!

Yes, there are a lot of people out there who have never heard of E-Cigs!!

You have a bottle of Juice, A device that makes heat, and now you puffing away... SOMEONE will say something!!!

As with other posts, Some Carriers, Airports are accepting the E-Cig & vaping, but not all..... Don't be so quick to blaze a new trail... It will cost you dearly!!!

Don't worry, you will not read about me in the paper. And I'm not going to risk missing my flight by causing any problems. I just wanted to make sure there was no law that I might be breaking. I won't vap on the plane unless the steward(ess) says it is OK. And I'm not going to sneak into the bathroom. I'd rather just use a patch than risk any problems.

My experience ... I recently traveled to Italy with a stop in Munich on Lufthansa. I packed my batts and extra carto's in my carryon. I packed my eliquids in checked baggage. I wrapped elquids in bubble wrap, put into ziplock bag and included a letter explaining what the contents were in english, german and italian. Also included tasty vapor card and v4l card. No Problems. Vaped mostly in the bathroom on way there .. on way home stealth vaped in my seat while watching movies :).

Also flew out to Dallas recently on US air ... had a great seat to stealth vape ;).

I just flew Delta from Minneapolis to Tokyo, and then from Tokyo to Manila. WEnt in the bathroom and vaped when I felt like I wanted/needed to. Made sure to hold in vapor long enough that it wouldn't really be visible on the exhale. No one was any the wiser.

Brought some juice with me. Atty's and mod batteries in my carryon along with my disassembled Indulgence and a 3.7v box mod w/o battery in my carryon as well. Packed my GLV and 5v passthrough along with a LOT more juice in my checked bag. Had absolutely no problems.

Be smart, and you'll be fine. That's the rule we all should be following!

Not in the states that I am aware of. Up until about two months ago I flew just about every week for the better part of 5 years and have never seen these at any airport. Cigarettes, yes - but no nicotine replacement products.

In the seat I'll tell the person next to me I'll likely have to use my inhaler often during the flight - if it bothers you please let me know, if it does I'll pace the isle when I need it.
I expect absolutely no trouble.

Even if the person next to you is cool with it, others may not be if you are pacing the aisle. Many pax are now much more aware of what their fellow travelers are doing on planes these days, especially the groundlings (our long-time term for people that are occasional, infrequent flyers). And some people get freaked out about any little thing they may perceive as out of the norm (whether it is or not). It is a symptom of flying in the post-9/11 world. I have seen fellow pax get freaked out because they think someone has been in the lavatory for too long.

If you are even considering vaping openly in your seat, I would suggest that, before you even speak to the person seated next to you, you should ask a flight attendent flat-out if they will allow you to vape on the plane. Then the next step would be to get an ok form people sitting next to you. And if anyone gets riled up about it, then you need to just knock it off with no fuss.

As near as I can vaping is not illegal in an airport or plane. No smoking. But nothing about vaping, and nothing about using an over the counter vaporizer. Am I missing something????

As another poster, who apprently is an FA, pointed out - when you sit your .... on a plane, what you may consider to be legal or illegal, disruptive or not, is pretty much a moot point. Whatever decisions a member of the flight crew makes are the rule of law for as log as you are in that pressurized cabin. Good example: I tend to drop my tray table within about 30 seconds of takeoff (I just like to be able to rest my arms and whatever I am reading down on something as soon as we're off the ground - its just a personal comfort thing, especially if I am in coach and do not have full use of two armrests). One one flight I took last year (out of probably close to 100 takeoffs and landings)a flight attendent told me that I needed to put it back up and keep it stowed until otherwise notified. In my head, my first thought is that no other FA has ever had an issue with this...but I simply said no worries and put it right back up until I heard the little beep at 10,000 feet.

flown about 8 times now..stealth vaping. no problems at all. i toss my 510 (i dont b other risking bringing my ggts on a plane, it looks like a damn bomb and i wouldnt blame others for getting nervous seeing it lol) and and extra batteries into my carry on duffle bag (i assume they look like pens...on xray or harmless anyway)...had one tsa guy inspect my bag for something totally unrelated and didnt say anything about the 510 or the eliquid. then when i put my shoes back on after security take a 510, an extra battery and liquid and stick them in my pants. from what ive read here airlines know about the e-cigs now im sure as long as u stealth vape (im sure all they care about is making others uncomfortable or frightened) should be no problem. only thing that makes me nervous i might make others nervous is when i drip so i try to be real careful about that. BTW these were all domestic flights...so maybe a little less scrutiny.

Your best bet is just try to keep it down... blow your vapor down, if you have to vape on the plane try and do it in the bathroom (again blowing away from the smoke sensors) ...

You don't want to show up on the evening news having caused a raucous on an airplane because someone 3 rows back thought they saw smoke, or you got in an argument with a flt attendant ...

As far as the legal bit is concerned, they may be legal to carry but you could still be violating airline rules if you use it on the plane. Consider that you are using an "unapproved electronic device" on an airplane. Same cattegory as a cell phone, they could claim it is capable of disrupting the plane's electronics and even if you could prove it doesn't the device is not approved and you are violating the airlines policy ....

I just flew United. I asked the FA about using an e-cig. One checked with the captain, who recommended against it. The other got the rule book which clearly stated no e-cigs. Neither seemed familiar with them, both were very pleasant. I did not vap on the plane. I didn't bother asking on the way back. No problems getting it through security (put the liquids in a quart ziplock, which I removed from my carry on and put with my shoes for scanning). I discreetly vaped in the airport, didn't ask anybody.

Good point.. . I think it was covered earlier... There are a few airlines that have it on the prohibited from using list....

Legal or not, It's discourteous to vape in confined space ... one thing to vape in an out door cafe, but another thing in an airplane cabin, on a bus, or in a crowded theater where you are sharing the air with the others .. we can argue all we want about what's in these things and weather they are harmfull or not, but our right to use them ends with the persons' sitting next to (in front of/behind) you and their right to not have to breath it in.

I stealth vape on flights every time I travel. Because I tend to get cold on planes, I take a light sweater or jacket. About 1 1/2 or 2 two hours into the flight, I pull my jacket over me like a blanket and vape blowing the vapor down under the jacket. Works like a charm, esp. if you have the air blower fully open down towards you.

stupid. so they should outlaw albuterol inhalers then, right? or nicotine inhalers?

shame on them. and i used to fly for them for a living!

In the American Airline magazine in small letters it says no e-cigs allowed. I go into the bathroom. I also use it in the seat but hold it in to the point that no vapor comes out.

Here and back
Just an update on my travels. I left Atlanta yesterday, one of the toughest security checks in my opinion and made it through A-OK. I had an XHaler with batts all loaded along with extra attys, batts, a Prodigy V2 and accessories, etc. in a pack in my purse. I had my carry on loaded with extra batteries, attys, pass throughs, you name it, I was ready for anything. Had even more stuff in the checked bag but no batteries there as they don't like checked batts. I watched as the screeners pointed and looked at the arsenal in my carry on bag, they never asked me to open it or explain. They never asked about the items in my purse. My checked luggage arrived safe and undisturbed in the UK (via Amsterdam).

While in ATL I vaped, discreetly, through out the concourse. I didn't make a scene and kept a little to myself but it wasn't what I would call in "stealth mode" either. No looks, no questions. I vaped on the plane (KLM) and I had an unknown passenger seated next to me, I was discreet but there again, no questions.

At the Amsterdam Airport I did the same, cautiously and discreetly but not "stealth" or fearful. When my carry on went through screening in Amsterdam with my purse, a screener asked about the XHaler sticking out of the purse, I said "electronic cigarette" he said OK.

So very successful, painless, great flight, etc., etc. I hope the same is true the opposite way in about two weeks.

I've vaped all around town here in Norwich and even passed a garage where a mechanic was standing outside with a big batt mod. If I hadn't been with the kids and grandkids I would have stopped and asked/talked.

Last but not least, non smoking rooms/hotels/guest houses are in your future! Yep, no more standing out in the rain or cold. Life is great.
