Perhaps while buying drinks we could purchase a disposable e-cig from our flight attendent. That would earn extra income for the airline as well.
I would not mind even having to sit in a vaping section unlike the old days when they had a smoking section. I hated sitting there, just because I wanted to smoke didn't mean I wanted to be surrounded by it and breathing it in the entire trip.

My problem is that even when flying to Europe I only take a carry on bag with me and I don't care for the idea of having to check my bag just to bring my e-cig with me.

My atomizer is so small it seems rather harmless. Could I make a weapon of my e-cig? It is scary the things people have come up with. I thought the nicotine would be the major concern.

The TSA has actually seen and approved certain e-cig models (Ruyan disposables). We just went to a tradeshow last week and used them in the airport and on the plane. The reaction all depends on how you're doing it. If you're making a scene, the flight staff will put an end to it. If you aren't bothering anyone and you explain it to them my experience has been that they are amazed by it and want to know where they can get one.

Did you see that in writing somewhere or just word of mouth?

Well here goes...flying out of Saskatchewan on Thursday morning, taking my ecig and instruction book with in my carry-on, and hoping to visit the washroom a couple of times thoughout my 5 1/2 hour flight to Cuba...
careful when vaping in the bathroom. One member set off the smoke alarm in the plane's bathroom by vaping. Course, he blew the vapor directly onto the smoke alarm...

A really useful thread. I read it all before taking a flight.

I flew out of London Stansted with 1 evo, 1 901, 2 chargers and approx 20 cartridges. These were in a carry on and went through security, no questions asked. Also flew out of Hanover and again no questions.

Didn't use them on the plane, though did discreetly at the airports both land and airside.

I used mine last week on an international flight. Helped because the lights were dimmed but I just cup the end of it and blow it out slowly or into my jacket. I did use it in the lav and blew directly into the detector with no problems. No one noticed me so there were no problems. I even had my e-cig, a spare battery in a plugged in charger and my bottle to refill the cartridge laying out on my tray in open sight. My e-cig that I was using looks identical to a real cigarette by the way. Now I use a pen style.

I actually found out about e-cigs because an elderly female was using one on a plane in the row in front of me. All the flight attendants came over to see it and thought it was cool. They asked her a 1000 questions about it but none of them were concerned or stopped her.

My first flight I was a little concerned over what they would think so I just went to the lav when I needed a fix and no one knew. Even if you were to set off the detector, it'll tell the cockpit which lav it was from. When they check it they wont smell any smoke and worst case would just report the detector to be checked.

I thought about informing the crew before hand but I know how some of the attendants can be and even though there is no policy against it, sometimes they try to create their own. I figure that I will use it discretely and worst case scenario they question me on it, I'll explain what it is. At that point they can tell me not to use it any more but there is no violation committed therefore nothing they can do but ask you to stop. The most they can do is report it to local police who would meet you on the ground but they can't do anything as long as it doesn't meet the elements of an offense which it doesn't.

Im going on hols to Orlando tomorrow from Gatwick, London. Thought I would call gatwick BAA and ask them for advice about carrying ecigs through security. The guy told me that security see these all the time and that there wont be an issue with security. Fingers crossed

Really, the BAA guy told you that?

I have vaped airside in Gatwick and on various flights but I use the black mini with blue LED and tend to keep quiet about it. So far there have been no problems.

It would be cool to get official approval (perhaps for a device that doesn't look like an analogue cigarette). AA's stance sucks.

In three days I leave from Green Bay and fly to chicago from chicago to vegas. I plan on using mine the whole way. I'm not sure what flite the wife has us on, I think it's United Airlines. My wife and the other couple I go with are all heavy smokers. They kinda pick on me a little for vaping and say it's going to get confiscated in security. Finally I told them all when I am on the plane vaping away in pure comfort, and they are pulling their hair out, not to come crying to me cause they are not getting any. Maybe I could sell it to them for a buck a drag.

Mine goes through airport security 2 to 4 times a week. No problems. If you plan to vape on an airplane, you better be damn sure you have permission from the flight crew first.
