About to Fly out tommorow on Virgin Atlantic from Gatwick 2 Vegas seeing as this is normally one of the strictest flights will let you all know how it goes .

Wish Me Luck (hope I don't end up in Guantanemo Bay ) lol

There's nothing wrong with Cuba it is very nice down there. I can't comment on the camp though. But their beaches are the finest in the Caribbean.

To add to this discussion....

I'm a pilot myself here in Australia.

My understanding is that the only times when it is illegal to smoke on an aircraft is during take-off, landing, or during refuelling operations. At other times, it is legal, if authorised by the pilot in command.

To the best of my knowledge, there have never been any significant accidents/incidents involving cigarettes in flight.

Smoking is prohibited airside (ie. on the tarmac, basically anywhere on the runway side of the fence) due to the presence of aviation fuel, for obvious reasons.

Our company policy is not to allow smoking in the aircraft. Apart from the times I mentioned, it is certainly legal to smoke in an aircraft, although most companies do prohibit it.

A few disclaimers though...

- I would need to check the various Civil Aviation Regulations to get the exact letter of the law, I'm at home right now, all that stuff is back at work.

- The legislation may be different outside of Australia.

- International flights would come under the influence of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), and could very well be different (although I suspect this is not the case).

- While I had to learn about the regulations, I'm a bit rusty, so take it all with a grain of salt. It's easier for me to just act as if smoking is banned, and then run out to the other side of the fence as soon as I land and crank up a smoke.

I have been puffing away in the cockpit since I got my e-cig on Monday. If you think passengers are the only ones bugged by long flights with no nicotine, you'd be wrong! :D

I would've put this in a new thread but they system won't let me :( Not enough posts I guess.

I'm going to Maldives in a few weeks time. Am more than happy to smoke on the aeroplane but more than a tad scared when I arrive. The country is strictly Moslem and therefore all baggage is checked on arrival to ensure no alcohol is taken in and I'm worried they may think my little bottles of eliquid are drugs and I'll be locked up indefinitely. 8-o I've sort of made my mind up to go on patches for a couple of weeks but just wondered if anybody had any experience of it. I've heard stories where people have taken prescription drugs and detained but not sure how true they are, quite possibly scaremongering. Thanks in advance!

It is true that some places do have strict restrictions due to religious belief. I have not been to the Maldives, but other muslim countries such as Dubai, Saudi Arabia do not allow any alcohol, pork products or drugs some which we can buy over the counter in the UK, such as neurofen plus (as they have codine in) into the country. A friend of mine went there on his honeymoon last year so will ask him for you how it was :)

Well I just spoke to him and he says that they did go through his suitcase, on arrival :( I don't know if there is any alcohol in e- juice, perhaps someone else knows, (may need a new thread). If there isn't, and I doubt very much there is, taking carts may be more suitable? I haven't been to a muslim country since I started e-smoking, but would probably not take the juice just in case, but then I am only usually there for a night or so. Sorry I can't be of more help, and have a great holiday what ever you decide to do :)

I work in an airport in Australia and even though I go through security every day and have never had a problem with getting the e-ciggie through.
I was speaking to airport security and they say that any type of lighter except jet lighters are OK in Aus. Obviously, you wont get Zippo fluid through, but you can take the Zippo. Any electronic item has to be operational. Security may ask you to activate and use an e-cigg so they can ascertain that it is what you say it is. So, make sure that the batteries are charged. Any labelled bottle of e-liquid under 100ml should make it through as well.

I havent tried smoking the ecig at the airport as I dont think that the company I work for would be very impressed if I got in trouble. Self preservation. And for some reason the liquid I have actually does smell quite a bit... true, it smells like strawberry milk, but it still smells. :)

Hi to all. I'm new but have followed this thread with interest as I have just recently gone on a short trip from UK to New York and needed advice as to whether the eciggy was legal to use on a flight. Glasgow like NY is strict on non-smoking and bans all smoking in public places and bars. Hence my interest after purchasing my new mini ciggy starter kit after seeing it on a thread on another UK forum.

I was determined not to go through a 7 hour flight without some nicotine intake and bought a pack of horrific nicotine chewing gum just incase my e-ciggy got taken. I charged it up the evening before and packed the charger and tabs in my main case. I put the e ciggy casually into the bottom of my handbag and off I went through the security checks. The bag was checked thoroughly. They even went all through my makeup etc and didn't even bat an eyelid at the very visible e-ciggy sitting at the bottom of my bag. So far so good.

I then got comfy on the flight and naturally needed a puff after a refreshment. So off I went to the loo (not being brave enough just to 'smoke it' in full view of everybody. However, I was scared stiff after my first puff that the smoke alarm was secretly going off in the pilot's cabin unawares to me. I was expecting a knock on the cabin door at anytime. But thought, what the heck, I've started, so I'll finish..and proceeded to just enjoy it for a good 3 or 4 mins. So out I came and there was no cabin crew waiting to warn me. I felt quite elated and at the same time relieved at this point. 8-o

So after this minor victory...I then decided to grab my blanket up about my face and have a few puffs whilst sitting there and did this for the remaining of the journey without raising an eyebrow from anybody. I can't say that I was brave enough to allow others to see the e-ciggy light up, as this might have caused alarm. But I certainly played around with it and held it up to my mouth as though it was a pen and then hid the lit part of it whilst puffing on it. No probs on the journey going to and coming back from NY with security either way. If anything, UK security were far more intensive with their search of my bag than NY. So my advice is to go for it.

May I also say that I was very surprised to see that I didn't encounter one person in NY in all the bars and places that I visited, anyone with an e-ciggy. And those that I showed it to, were gobsmacked and thought it was fantastic....but they had truly never heard of it. By the way...I did the same thing in the bars. I.e. I just sort of played with it and puffed away whilst hiding the lighted part of it and nobody was any the wiser. One bar, after much discussion which ended up with the manager and staff all in on it, thought it was a great device. So that bar didn't mind me smoking it. Unfortunately for me, our party only visited the bar once and I don't even remember the name of it.

The flight that I flew with was Continental Airlines.

Oops...almost forgot that member of the party that I got acquainted with was a former American Airlines pilot and he was horrified by my very frank escapade across the seas with my e-ciggy. He thought it was an amazing contraprion and I could even set up a business in NY marketing it. However, he was impressed that I had managed to 'smoke it' sitting in my seat and in the toilet without being detected. :D

Just got back from a trip to Boston, on the way back I got the dreaded "SSSS" on my boarding ticket so had to go to the complete security sweep at Bos, they went through my entire carry-on where my e-cigs were and had no problems! On the day flights I held my vape for 6-7 seconds. On my last flight home it was at night so the cabin was dark and no one next to me so I vaped normally with no problems.

I bought my friend a pink DSE901 as a surprise. I live in the North West of England but she lives in the South. Her husband flew to Manchester on a business trip to meet my husband yesterday so it seemed perfect sense for him to take the pressie back with him. Not wanting to take the chance of having the gift confiscated, he asked one of the security guards beforehand if the fully packaged, never out of the box ecig could be carried onboard in hand luggage. He was told no. He never asked why it wasn't allowed, just accepted it. We posted the gift via Royal Mail today...

Perhaps if he'd never mentioned it he would've gotten away with it? ...Not that there's much of anything to get away with in the first place... :(

Just got back from Vegas a few dollars poorer, but had a great time!! I e-smoked out right in the terminals in Detroit and Vegas no one even batted a eye. On the plane discreetly vaped in a window seat with my sweat shirt, both day and night flight. No problems. What a difference flying with my e-cig, no stress. It's a wonderful thing.
