I agree that it needs to be sold in the media as a safe alternative to tobacco smoking and a direct path to continue the look and feel without the health issues. The local B&M stores in our area are selling huge volumes of new vapers everything under the sun and I'm finally running into fellow vapers here and there as I move about.

The hitch in the campaign is as the article retired1 linked to above. No one in the FDA wants to declare them safe. They aren't declaring them to be dangerous, either. The bylines of those in the media are, "We don't know what's in them!" or "The candy and fruit flavors are there to attract the kids!". Well, kids must be attracted to flavored Vodkas and flavored cigarettes, too. Ban them and see if our political leadership doesn't change in the next election!

It's a political game with big money behind the push against the new "smoke". Big tobacco is trying to rig the game where they are the only players who can afford to produce and sell product. There's a $4B industry to acquire in their eyes.

People who want to know how they work can Google "How e-cigarettes work" and get this from Google: (About 59,900,000 results (0.42 seconds).

If they Google "How personal vaporizers work" they get much fewer return links: (About 1,290,000 results (0.47 seconds)

The reason we haven't used the term 'vaping' much on ECF is because we were the first, and this term either wasn't used or was too obscure. In 2007 when we started the word was hardly used, and even by 2010 this word wasn't widely recognised for ecig use. It was used by others, in another area, and basically we had to wait until the ecig world owned it before we were happy to use it.

People who came along well after us often started out using the term, but our focus has tended to be on reaching the largest possible number of smokers, appealing to them effectively, and trying to maintain standards in a free-for-all environment. It can mean we appear a little slow to react, but our motto is safe and steady; our job isn't to follow this season's fashion.

My conversations with uninformed bystanders usually go like this, and never does the vaping or smoking have a bearing on the actual conversation itself. The important part is that they differentiate between safe and dangerous by the electronic designation.

"What's that thing?"

It's an electronic cigarette.

"How's it work?"

It heats a liquid that produces vapor that resembles smoke. It's basically cool flavored steam with a nicotine additive.

"Did it make you quit smoking cigarettes?"

Yep, haven't had one in two years and I cut down from 2 packs a day to 6 or 8 cigarettes a day for two years before that while using this thing.

"Does it taste like a cigarette?"

It can, or it can taste like fruit, candy, desserts, coffee, or just about anything depending on the juice I buy.

"Neat, I have a brother in law who just won't quit smoking, Where can I buy one for him?"
