Can you guys please clarify something for me, as I only use mech mods?
I have only had one 'situation'.
I use only gennies. And when you set up the gennies, you have to 'pulse out' the build to get the coils to fire evenly. I only subohm on my dual coil genny, 0.5 or 0.6 Ω. I use AW IMR 18650 to build, and the Tesla Sub Box to vape the sub ohm genny.
So I was building a clone dual-coil genny, and nothing got really warm, or hot, or anything. Was pulsing it out, and i saw a spark out of the corner of my eye. The mod got HOT. Like touching an electric stove burner.
So i immediately unscrewed the button off, and took out the battery. Battery looked fine. Voltage was fine. I still use the battery today.
Pos pin insulator on the atty melted, causing a dead short. I no longer use these attys (Dome clone).

My question is this. I knew immediately, that something was drastically wrong, and stopped doing what I was doing. So how does it get to the point where the battery is venting and the mod is exploding?
Are people really stressing out their batts this much? How can they hold the mod?? I'm not kidding. My mod got like a curling iron!!

You Melted the insulator pulsing the coils.

I'm a huge genesis fan. Love them.
Most people IMHO don't build them properly.

Build a genny exactly like an RDA with verticle coils, with coil ID same as wick holes.
Pulse a few quick time to be sure they fire evenly without a wick.
Insert mesh wick, soak with juice, fill atty and vape.
No hot spots, no shorts against the mesh, and no melted insulators.

I pulsed this thing maybe 5 times. It was a dual coil w 30g kan 5/4 on each side. This particular clone was pretty crappy. I usually don't have to pulse my coils out too much, tho.
Thank You Loads for all the info on this thread, you and SuprTkr!!

Blind Logic.
No one said a Shop owner needs to be irresponsible.................and Mechs do NOT Blow up. They get Ripped apart from Batteries that Expand and/or Explode.

No, wait, you are absolutely correct and All Ultra-Sports Cars should Be Banned from Production/Sale. You cannot teach someone to Drive one Safely if they don't want to learn.
Aircraft need to go. They fall out of the Sky, even in the hands of Trained Pilots.
Don't even get me started on Boats! :glare:

:lol::lol::lol:

Ummmm..........so much for Freedom of Choice

* Cars gotta Go:
would u let a 16 y.o. drive a race car if he doesnt know how to drive stick?
Would u let a 16 y.o. pilot an airplane with u on it when he isnt trained ?

Isnt it the shops responsibility to tell them hey its too dangerous for u, u might need to not use it u untill u are properly trained

Seems like u dont get my point, let me repeat it again for u

It is the shops responsibility to NOT sell mech mods to new users until they are properly educated about battery safety and how to not short the battery, as it has chance of user error in the hands of a newcomer , they might use batteries that are not safe for the ohms they are building and building lower than they should, resulting in this kids face being blown up

When users are educated about battery safety, using good and authentic batteries, learn how to build and not get shorted out, there wont be any problems, ive used mechs, i like it, shorted out a few times, lucky my face didnt get blown up but if i was the shop owner, i would recommend new people regulated devices and if they really want mech mods i would tell them everything they need to know to avoid getting their faces blown up

Anyone using a mechanical mod without doing research is a straight up fool.
No nicer way to say it.

I bought my first Egos without doing any research at all. Luckily for me they are safe gadgets. I remember seeing those fancy cool looking copper and brass jobs in the display. I had never seen any reports about explosions and had no idea they worked any differently to Egos. I would have had no more reason to do research if I had picked up a fancy copper mech than I did with my new Ego.

Come to think about it I had no idea batteries could be dangerous. Used them all my life with no problems. Who knew?

I moved up the ladder slowly and by the time I got a mod with an external battery I had read a little. Not quite enough though, I still put my batteries in the charger overnight for some time until I read some more about battery safety.

It's hard to put yourself back where you were when you first started vaping.

Not sure what the solution is. A note on the side of the box saying "warning, for advanced users only" isn't going to do it. If Deeming goes through I doubt any mech mods will be approved for sale anyway.

I agree that folks need to have at least some knowledge of the products we buy. BUT, if it is legal to sell to a minor, it is his decision. A Nanny should not have to jump from behind the counter and puke knowledge on him until he is Considered safe by the Nanny.
The type mod he was using is not normally sold as a kit (mod, battery, tank, etc), therefore, How would the sales person know the level of knowledge of the user, the planned usage of the things purchased? Most sales persons are not really who I would trust to instruct a user any way.
Battery knowledge? Can a minor still buy a car battery without a training class?

Do not assume everyone is like you.
I sure wasn't. I paid attention in science class.

Who looks at a mechanical mod in and doesn't see the potential for a problem?

No one buys a mech without seeing one in action.

Finding information on a mech is easier than finding ECF.

A 10 minute google search will being up enough information to make an educated decision.

Again, critical thinking is required in life to be safe.
Depending on others to do it for you is foolish.
It may not be PC, but it's true.

I agree. I think most of the people on this forum agree.
Now what!! How does repeating this over and over solve anything.

Nothing against you Stinkytofus. Just get tired of reading the same thing again and again.

you were pulsing the mod which gave heat time to move to the mod case. batteries can heat up quickly with a hard short and continuous operation.

unfortunately the courts tend to disagree with you. a shop can be successfully sued for selling dangerous equipment just like a bartender can be sued and even prosecuted for selling drinks to a drunk driver.if nothing is done to control access to the products then kids will continue doing stupid things and getting hurt and the government will likely ban these products.it is normal for a consumer to think a product being sold to them is safe.this discussion continues because kids keep getting hurt and nothing changes

In the US "kids" aren't allowed to legally purchase tobacco products.
Even e cigs.

IMHO, shops should just have all customers buying gear sign a disclaimer.
"Warning! For advanced users only!
If used improperly, this device can cause injury or death.
Use at own risk!"
Easy peasy. Let natural selection thin the herd.

misuse of the word "kids"i'm 59 years old and think of anyone under 25 as a kid. I've met men in their late 30's who are still living with mommy and act like teenagers.I don't think signing that disclaimer would provide a shop much protection in court.

I've built a ton of gennies. In this particular instance, the insulator on the deck of the atty where the post for wire attachment goes through melted through. This happened after touching the mod button about four or five times, to adjust the coils. The atty's insulator failed.
And the moment that this happened, holding the entire mod was like holding a curling iron. And I knew instantly that this was BAD!! So i removed the battery, and discovered the failure of the atty.
This was during the building process. My mods never get warm when i vape, just the cap of the atty.
I do not understand how someone could be sitting there vaping something like this. I mean, were they wearing oven mitts or hockey gloves??!I didn't even vent the battery. How could someone be vaping this and holding the mod comfortably? And then it just goes thermal?

Calling them "kids" is an attempt
To trivialize their responsibility.
At 18 they are adults.

Disclaimer?
Sure it would.
Have you ever rented an ATV? Idiots misuse them and get hurt every day.

They may have been using a shady battery. Possibly one that was way underrated for their build or a knock off battery or both.

This is NOT WHAT YOU SAID EARLIER - but thanks for correcting YOURSELF!

First, you are even Assuming A Shop owner sold a 16 year old a Mod. I did not read a confirming FACT in the Article.
Did the Kid in FACT purchase the Mod?
If so, Where was the Responsibility to NOT sell to MINORS?
What would make an OWNER Keep one good Rule and Not another?

Please continue spewing and accusing, it is getting interesting.

It is not my Job to invent situations or accuse unknown persons, you go right ahead.

The other thing nobody ever discusses is when your mech tube becomes as hot as a nuclear holocaust, it's probably not a good idea to bring it up to your face and start sucking on it. The extreme heat has to become apparent long before the user blows his ears off.

Some people have been known to just wrap a towel around it and keep vaping.
