I don't think Obama and his crew are friendly with big tobacco, so if he actually does what he says and is fair and honest we should be fine. And how is customs going to stop all the e-cigs? They can't stop bongs, dope seeds and other illegal stuff from coming in, you think they're gonna focus on e-cigs?

They wont be able to stop all the shipments, but they have been stopping some of them. As for Obama and big tobacco - I dont trust any member of the govt. Unless youre a big corporation with lobbyists and $ to *cough* "donate" to the politicians' campaign funds, re-election funds, etc., and $ to wine and dine them, you might as well forget being heard.

Aw man, I'm already referring to my online seller as "my dealer." Don't tell me I'm eventually going to have to start meeting him in an alley in the dead of night to score my juice..... :D

My assessment: The doctor is absolutely right until he starts discussing that the e-cig is marketed to adolescents. I am yet to see proof of this.

AND: He states that this is a smoking cessation product, but it is not. It is an alternative to smoking. Damn suppliers who are selling this as a quit smoking device. See what you are doing!?!

Edit: The above is based on the article that was provided. I am now able to see the video and it is absolutely ridiculous how there is a complete lack of any medical information or data whatsoever. Chen should stick to "Big Brother".

OMG! That was such a load of crap! I would not be a bit surprised if it was driven by big tobacco. He said that it was being marketed towards adolescents(sp?) and that only one drag of nicotine can get you addicted, what kind of expert is he? Also the fact that Harry Smith was trying one on the air and was making icky faces when taking a drag was a joke! He admitted he had quit smoking in his 20's so why bother. Of course it will not taste good to a non/ex smoker! Then also Julie Chen is waving her file folder saying "and I don't want to be smelling your vapor either" as Harry moves away. OMG! WHAT FRICKEN FOOLS! (yes, I was yelling, sorry)

Okay, now I think with that negative "national" review by anti smokers we can see the writing on the wall a little clearer! Stock up boys and girls, stock up!

The doctor is dead-on in his early comments. And, alas, supplier after supplier advertises these as smoking cessation products. We always knew those unfounded claims would get e-smoking in trouble.

We also knew easy Internet access to a drug as addictive as ...... or ....... would cause concerns "for the young people." Clicking a button that says "I'm over 18" proves nothing. Kids certainly DO have access. And we've seen a few posters on this forum who have said they're still in high school. Unless they flunked three years, they're under 18.

The safety issue is huge -- and won't go away until studies are complete. Everything he said has been said on this forum for a year.

We e-smoke on faith, in Chinese products without regulatory oversight or FDA approval. And we suck that faith into the only set of lungs we'll ever have.

From a legal/FDA perspective I understand and agree. From a people-like-Whiteson-and-Chen perspective, I think their comments would be even worse if it wasn't marketed as a cessation product. Consider the public vaping posts. We know there is less hassle when we say, "it's my inhaler to stop smoking". Saying "it's my smoking alternative" falls pretty flat.

Actually, I don't see much wrong with the piece. The doctor doesn't say that it is being marketed to adolescents, just that he's concerned about it. He could mean in the future.

Perhaps it seems slightly disingenuous to most of us who know the issues, but from a medical/public health policy point of view, he's bang on.

And we don't know the long term health impact of e-smoking. Anyone who is saying that it is safer, is making an assumption. Something a doctor cannot do.

I'm a little of unsure of the second hand pollution, like for instance, when I'm driving w/ my family, I do infact make absoltuley certain that the window is cracked and no one is breathing it in.
Joe is right, a Huge portion of e-smoking in its entirety is based on pure assumption. No one should be subject to any risks involving our habits.

I am afraid the dilemma of E-cigarettes is that even if the anti smoking Nazi's do completely accept that it is far healthier for smokers to vape........they will still probably do everything in their power to control it because they will not want new generations growing up to become addicted to E-cigarettes.
