Keep up the great work Dan! I'm loving this spreadsheet..

What I've done with it though is kept an earlier version (v1 or 2 maybe) and inserted it as the first page in the workbook.. Most of the time I just want a quick reference to a simple mix, and don't need all the bells and whistles; although I am finally starting to remember 25-15-3-8 as my magic formula numbers to whip up a quick 2.5ml batch....

LOL cool, glad it is helping someone, I do thank all the people that have tried it and thrown accolades my way, but Dale.s and Scottes get credit to. They helped with parts of it and kept me straight on a couple areas. My hats off to them.

Anything we can do to make this tool better is worth the effort as far as im concerned, it not only helps us, but everybody else that uses it! and on that note, whatcha think to adding in "flavor strength guides" like the one scottes is working on http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/12259-loranns-strength-o-meter-9.html#post597895

Would be good for determining ratios as a starting point, but it is still subjective to the persons taste. And we would need to do all of the vendors flavors to keep it consistant to incoorporate it into the calculator IMO. Up until that point it would be a good advisory page.

I'd love to see the strength-o-meter incorporated into the ejuice Calculator, but there's not enough info in there yet. Most of the flavors have a rating from only 2 people, very few have ratings from 3 people, and it is far from complete. In a nutshell, that info ain't ready for the ejuice Calculator.

I have every plan on adding info to the S-o-M, but I'm just getting over an infection that has affected my sense of taste. And I just got some of that Vanilla Custard... It's hard to vape anything else right now.

Dan, Hi, I copied your wonderful calc, and I would like to thank you so much, but I would like to make certain I understand what I need to do. I have 38%nic in pg only, and I'm adding flavoring that requires vg or pg,not sure what percent to add of flavoring though. I know you put 10%,is that a standard amount? I think I need that calc.,too,first. I'm going to be adding a vg. as well, since the nic is only in pg solution. I am making only 6ml of juice to 16% strength.
So , I would plug in all data and it will also give me the vg amt to use and the amount of flavoring to add for final solution? I know on the site that I purchased my flavor which is happy vapor, capella flavoring, they say to make sure you add your vg or pg. Since my nic, solution is in pg, I am going to be adding vg to the final solution, and if I plug in all the knowns then I will also be told how much vg to add? is this correct? I added up your calcs.,and it showed how much vg to add and how much of flavor to add for your final calcs,so I think this is correct?
thanks for your input,peggym

Hi, 10% is a standard amount for most people, taste is always a factor, some require more. I have been smoke free for 120+ days so I only need 5% so it is case by case basis and the flavor you use as some are stronger than others. But again it is case by case on what the person likes. 10 % is a good starting point.
I tend to stick with 20-30% VG, The 20% in section 7 is based on the nic juice being PG based so the 20% is based on the total amount to be made in section 1. In section 7 I defaulted it to be 20%, if it turns red then you need to reduce the VG % as it exceeds the section 2 PG or VG (No Nicotine) value.
This help?

Bickford - I ordered a set of flavors from them and asked about dyactel (cant recall the spelling). They confirmed that three of the flavors i ordered were free of it (eggnog, cheesecake, clove), but that Chocolate has trace amounts.

It may be good to include this info in the list. As I understand it that is bad stuff we dont want to vape.

PS, would it be okay with you if I adapted your calculator to work on the android phone as a standalone program and put it up on the market as a free application? It would be a first app for me, so would take a little while to build as I learn the setup.

Good to know on the chcolate, thanks.
I have no problem fee free to use any part of the calculator you need it is free for everyone, and can be modified with no reprocussions. Enjoy!

Thanks for the calculator!

You and everyone else that have thanked me are welcome! It is my way of giving back to those who have helped me along my journey!

Ok Version 7 now has Scottes's DIY Cost Calculator added to it. Have a look at this latest feature!
I also went throught the FlavorArt list and marked all the ones on their site that have trace amounts of diacetyl, also I have marked Bickfords Chocolate that also was reported to have trace amounts of diacetyl.
As always the download link is in my sig!
We are working to make this a safe and more informative product for you!

Dan,
Absolutely awesome spreadsheet. Conrgats to you and all who contributed! I am new to DIY and I typically do all my spreadsheets myself (on any project) to assure it is done right! You took this whole time consuming project out of the equation for me! Awesome awesome awesome! Just one quick question though. On section 7, the default 20% VG for example, the ml it calculates is the amount of ml to substitute in field f17? If so, can we include the drop coversion to calculate beside volume in section 7?

Nice work Dan.

Plugging in numbers makes it clear why it is good to have 60mg unflavored on hand.
Once you dilute with flavorings, VG and PGA it can bring the strength down in a hurry.
Also, I can see importance of concentrated flavorings.

I already stocked up on 48mg.
Lord willing, I will get some 60mg in the future so I can mix any combination.
I am seeking some nice concentrated cola and strawberry flavor.
Luckily, I can get satisfaction with 8mg and 16mg many times.
On occasion it is nice to have some 36mg.
Sometimes I am a good boy and vape 0mg.

Actually it is based on the total quantity 10ml for example minus the flavoring to be added. So if it is 10ml minus .5 = 9.5, 20% of that would be 1.9ml and then you would add .1ml of pg (for a total of 2ml in sction 2), and add it to the 7.5ml of PG based nic juice and the .5 flavoring to = 10ml of final product. This is all based on if you want 20% to be VG. If you exceed the "PG or VG (no nicotine)" amount in section 2 then section 7 will turn red, indicating it is not possible.

<smacking forhead> Ahhh! I got it, my bad, feel like an idiot now! Probably should of looked a little more before firing off questions! But, question still there.... might be helpful to put drop calculation in to do one more auto calculation for us. If my understanding is now correct... it would be as such:

Base nic 36%
target 18%
10ml batch
10% flavor

20ml/drop

requires 4.0ml (80 drops) PG/VG (no nic)
if using 20% VG it would give a calculated

1.8ml VG (1.8*20(drps/ml) = 36 drops
2.2ml PG (2.2*20(drps/ml) = 44 drops

36 drops of VG and 44 drops PG would compile the 80 drops required in section 2.

Would it not be beneficial to have the drops listed in section 7?

Yes it would be, great suggestion. Drops have now been added to section 7.

Thanks for making this better for everyone!

Dan, you are really a genius!

I downloaded the Open Office program (all 150mbs...lol)

When I click on the link in the FilesAnywhere, it wants to open it in Quattro Pro 12 Notebook. So how do I get it to open in the OO program?

Basically, I have 36mg flavored nic....and 48mg unflavored. I want to mix it to 45mg...say 5ml worth. I have gone braindead from trying to figure it out (probably why I can't figure out how to open the calculator in OO...lol).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much for a such a wonderful aid!

First take 1.4ml of 36mg and add it to 3.6ml of 48mg juice. This will give you 5ml of 45mg of juice.

Next click on the link and download the file and save it to your desktop.
Next find the file on your desktop, right click on it and select "open with" now find the OO spreadsheet program and select it as the default to open this kind of file. Icon should look like this:
OOoCalc.png
Now when you open a file on your computer or open it online, the spreadsheet module if you selected the check mark to use this as the default program, will now open them.

Hope this helps.

Since I don't have Excel on this laptop i have to do this in my head...

You have 5ml times 36mg is 180mg total in the bottle. 5ml of 45mg is 225 mg total. So you need to add 45mg. There is a 12mg/ml difference between the two you have, so you'd need approx 4ml of 48mg to get that extra 45mg (48 actually). That leaves 1ml left to be the 36ml. This would give you (4*48=192) + (1*36=36) = 228mg, or 45.6mg.

And it will be just about flavorless at a 4:1 ratio.

You should be able to save the XLS file to disk, then right-click on it and choose Open With, and then pick OpenOffice Calc. It will probably tell you something like 3.75ml and 1.25 to get exactly 45mg, but the above is close enough to show that you probably don't want to make this mix.

Dang, Dan, you type fast. :D

I was pretty close, though - 3.75 vs 3.6. Not too bad.

LOL hey we were both within .4 :)

Well I rounded up doing it quickly ie...

1.4ml * 36mg = 50.4
3.6ml * 48mg = 172.8mg
1.4ml + 3.6ml = 5ml

(50.4mg + 172.8mg) / 5ml = 44.64mg

Alternate is actually closer:

1.2ml * 36mg = 43.2mg
3.8ml * 48mg = 182mg
1.2ml + 3.8ml = 5ml

(43.2mg + 182mg) / 5ml = 45.04mg
