Leave it here -- but you must update it every 8 hours so it remains accurate :)

Second thought--new thread

That infrequently? We might miss several new ones, shack! :D

And/or, Blog it?

I had thought of Blogging, ir r77r77r77, but I think people would be less likely to see it, or to add to it.

I've been vaping for about 7 months on the cheap eonsmoke pens (I never really enjoyed it and couldn't understand the hype). I recently got a real vapor as a gift from my dad who has been trying to get me to make the complete switch away from cigarettes. (Since it was so successful for him) I got the Eleaf iStick with the aspire Nautilus Mini on January 1st. WOW!!! What a difference. IM HOOKED. I totally get why people love it.

This is all so new to me and i really dont know all the lingo of the vaping world. I have so many questions that I don't even know where to start.

I got my unit from a 3rd party vendor. He changed the coil/atomizer inside for me to a DC 2.5 because he said that it would be better. Is that really better than the coil that came with the unit? What is the difference?

Also, When I change the wattage, I noticed that the volts in the bottom left corner of the screen change too. I thought you can only change one or the other, but not both. Can someone explain this to me?

I'm also noticing a slight 'rattlesnake' noise while vaping. Is there anything I can do to fix this.

I apologize if these questions have been asked and answered already. I tried reading through this thread but there are so many posts.

Thank you guys for your help. I really want to get the hang of it ;)

-Rachel
DC stands for "dual coil" meaning there are two coils in there. Whether dual is better than single is a matter of preference.

You cannot increase watts without increasing volts, and vice versa. The istick just shows you what automatically happens as you increase one. If you manually increase watts, the istick shows you how much the voltage changes.

The rattlesnake noise is normal for the istick. It has to do with how the device gives power. Nothing you can do about it.

Watts is the measurement of power used in the circuit. Voltage is a measurement of the force of electricity through a circuit. If you increase the volts the power used will increase so the watts increase. If you dial in for more watts or power, then the voltage will have to increase to supply it. You can only adjust the setting on one at a time but it affects the other when you do it. It would probably be better try try to understand one thing at a time instead of tryin to take it all in with one paragraph . If you don't understand electricity, it doesn't matter, just set your pv to where you like it best. Some like to adjust volts. I prefer adjusting in watt mode.

What difference will I notice on a single coil vs dual coil? I'm thinking about getting a second nautilus mini tank and am undecided about changing or keeping the coil.

Dual coil tends to give a warmer vape. I tend to like single coil because it doesn't use up juice as fast, and the battery lasts longer (takes more power to run 2 coils).

But, I don't have a Nautilus. So if you get a second one, try it with the single coil and see which you like better.

Thank you, aldenf, and it really is my pleasure to keep it going. A question for you, and everyone else...

Do you guys think it might be better suited (worthwhile) if I started a new thread with our list? This thread is enormous, fast moving, and can be confusing to newbs. The info can get lost quite easily and quickly.

Or do you think it's best to leave it here?

I have no problem either way. :)

A new thread makes sense. At almost 9000 posts, the new iSticks can have their own threads. :D

It is not only the difference between one or two coils in the head. It is also the difference of type of coil. The Nautilus Mini comes standard with single bottom vertical coil (BVC) heads. The bottom dual coil (BDC) heads are oriented horizontally. A far majority of users believe the BVCs to be far superior in flavor and vapor production. If I were you, I would try the Nautilus Mini with the 1.8 Ohm(Ω) BVC head. You may like it better. Many here are having good luck with the 1.6Ω head too.

Good luck!

Thank you everyone for the help!

I'm going to go with the 1.8 ohm to start but would like to get the DC 2.5 as well. For some reason I can't find them anywhere. The ones I have came with my tank since the seller upgraded it for me.

Any ideas where I can get the DC 2.5 for the nautilus mini?

Thanks again :)

Aspire's BDC heads for their "lesser" clearomizers will not fit the Nautiluses. According to Aspire's website (Aspire - Aspire Nautilus Tank Clearomizer), the Nautilus BDC heads have only ever been provided in 1.6Ω & 1.8Ω versions. If you have a 2.5Ω BDC in your Nautilus Mini, it must be a third-party head. The only third-party head above 2Ω, that I could find, is the 2.1Ω version that FastTech sells: $5.39 Replacement Coil Head for Nautilus BDC Tank Atomizer (5-Pack) 5-pack - 2.1ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping. Many have reported serious quality control issues with third-party heads. I highly recommend you try Authentic Aspire BVCs @ 1.6Ω or 1.8Ω. The BVCs are what made the Nautilus Mini so brilliant! 101Vape has them both in stock @ $12.99 for a five-pack. That's about going rate unless you find a sale.

Hope this helps.

Good luck!

ETA: Your current Nautilus Mini came with one or two BVC heads from Aspire. Drop it in your Mini and see if you like it. If your vendor kept the BVCs that came with your mini, go back and ask him for one. At the very least, you can probably purchase a single BVC from the vendor and see if you like it before you commit to a five-pack.

Thanks. Ill have to look into it. I took the coil out and it clearly states DC 2.5 on it. I'll have to make sure that it won't ruin my mod.

I don't have the original BVC since the guy who set up my mod and tank replaced it with the 2.5. He kept the 1.8. Now I think he did it to keep for himself. I'm going to ask him to return it. Problem is that he lives upstate by my parents so I'll have to have him ship it.

Here's a nice price for now, Rachel. I've gotten them cheaper on ebay, but it doesn't look like there's any great sales over there today. I use 1.8 ohms and it is outstanding.:)

If you're in NYC, there are many vape shops on St. Marks now (including the very reputable, if slightly expensive, Beyond Vape). Most of them sell single BVCs for a few bucks. I guess it depends how big of a hurry you're in. Remember that your current DC 2.5 is only good for a couple of weeks (at most) before it needs to be replaced. Beyond Vape also has storefronts on W 31st as well as in Brooklyn (Beyond Vape, premium vaporizers and e-cigarettes). Better prices are almost always available online.

That is so awesome! I was wondering where vape shops would be. Not surprising that it's in the village! I should have known to look there ;)

Thank you!!!
