'Insisted' connotes 'demanded forcefully' etc. I don't think joyetech 'responded' at all, let alone insisting, at the time. IOW, I don't think there's a 'pattern' here.

And I'm not suggesting a pattern--didn't mean to, anyway. But eGos were always marketed as 3.7v devices, by Joyetech and Janty and every vendor who carried their batteries, and it led to a lot of confusion among us poor vapers who couldn't understand why our 2Ω cartos worked just fine on eGos but burned on KR808 batteries.
