So, I finally got my 6mg non-PG Mythos Athena juice in today (Dessert Tobacco). I've been trying it out for a while now in the Subtank Mini on my iStick 30. Much better than my overly thin 12mg VG juice I was using before - though I'm not sure if I'm a fan of that particular Mythos flavor. No more loud popping (or any popping at all) when I first take a drag (regardless of which air hole I'm on). The coil still crackles some at higher wattages - which I think is normal. 6mg juice is still clearly too much nicotine for me in a Subtank, but it is more manageable when taking mouth-to-lung hits. Even using 1.2 ohm heads, I think the Subtank may just be too hot a vape for me, as I keep finding myself dialing down the wattage. I'm at 11 watts now, and may go down further. 11 watts isn't too bad, and it still gives me a bit more flavor and vapor compared to my usual 2.1 ohm TDC iClear 16s, but not by a huge margin. I may go back to trying my Mini Nautilus when the newer Nautilus BVC coils are available everywhere and I don't have to guess who has them in stock.
I'm still struggling to get the Subtank running in a way that I will prefer over an iClear 16 set at around 3.5 volts or less. So far, the Subtank has a propensity for making me cough after a few drags at anything over 11 watts (3.6 volts). Going to an even lower strength juice would help, but I'm feeling that still might not be enough. I may have to try building a higher resistance coil on the Subtank's RBA deck, but I was really hoping to avoid rebuilding again. There's a chance I'll just have to give up on the idea of using a "sub ohm" tank altogether. Instead, this tank could end up being the equivalent of a 1.5 ohm range high juice capacity "clearomizer" for me. That isn't a terrible thing, but maybe something cheaper (like one of those eLeaf tanks?) would have been better suited for what I'm trying to accomplish.
I'll get some 3mg juice and see how that works. The Mythos e-liquid is wicking great at all wattages I've tried so far. I'm just not sure I like the flavor all that much. It is vaguely reminiscent of something like Turkish Blended, but not as "spicy". It has some depth to it. It isn't bad, but it is no Boba's Bounty. I haven't steeped it at all yet though, so the flavor profile could improve greatly. The stuff seems pretty fresh, and has a surprisingly decent aroma from the glass bottle (for an e-liquid). Mechanically speaking, the Subtank Mini is working perfectly fine now. No leaks. No dry hits. Decent flavor delivery and vapor production - even at lower than recommended wattages on the iStick. It just might not be the right type of device for my style of vaping, but I can't say I've regretted buying it. Even if I stop using it, I'll be happy I have it just in case I want to use the RBA deck in the future. For the money, the Subtank Mini makes more sense to use in comparison to a Kayfun.
