As a fellow DYI'r with dibeties I read in a few places that vaping juices with em or just vaping juice in general is not good for dibetics. I've noticed some swings in my blood sugars recently which concern my doctor and I'm trying to nail this down. I haven't had any significant changes in my diet as of late and am concerned that vaping may be causing this. I do vape some mixes that have em in 1% amounts. If anyone out there that has diabeties or just you good folks in general that may have some insight into this would be kind enough to comment it would be greatly appreciated.

I read somewhere that eJuice had very little affect on Glucose. I also heard that Smoking was very bad for Diabetics.

Thank you for your comment and I'm doing research on this and coming up with the same conclusion. Most say it's not nearly as bad as analog's but still bad expecially juices containing EM. I found one site that had comments from a diabetic speciaist that state it's a very good alternitive to actual smoking and does not significantly increase blood sugar even the sweet vapes. But there are a lot of post from diabetics that have noticed an increase in blood sugar and this concerns me just for the fact that mine increased and this was not the case a month ago when I first started vaping. I don't want to give vaping up now that I'm completely off analogs and now must weigh the risks between going back to analogs or staying with vaping. My thoughs right now is that I'm still better off staying with the vape.

I have A1c's done every 90 days or so, I seldom add EzSweetZ and when I do its just a few drops.

My aic's are 6.0 or less, Danny.

I do NOT use em.

People that add a lot of EM are masking bad eliquid mixes. A good mix won't need much sweetner added.

You can take really bad eliquid and put loads of EM in it for good taste....you will clog up attys often though...and for a diabetic your blood sugars will rise vaping it.

I totally agree. I use at most 1% sweetner and not for all my mixes. As I vape only tobacco mixes I find some tobacco lean towards the harsh side and I find 1% sweetner takes the harsh edge off. I would'nt say 1% is excesive so I can't understand why my shugers shot up from 115 avarage to 150 average. I've just made a mix with just 555 and ap and no sweetner and am seeing if that makes a difference. My diet and meds hasen't changed so I'm not sure what is going on here.

Danny,
I do my fasting fingerstick every morning, just before coffee.
It was staying around 120-126.

Now I have a single cup coffeepot and it takes about 5 minutes to make. I vape as I wait. (DIY flavorart "cookie")
One morning I decided to do the fingerstick before I started vaping. It was 112. I turned on the coffeepot and started vaping.
Another fingerstick when the coffee was done was 118.

Now that's only about 5 minutes, so it did raise it a tiny bit.
Next morning I tried vaping unflavored. Same results. Nearly identical. Apparently, not the flavoring.

I dunno what FA uses as sweetener, I don't add any, I like it as it is.

I'd suggest doing the same thing if you're concerned, but for a longer time period.
Fasting Fingerstick...vape some unflavored for an hour...fingerstick.
Next morning; Fasting fingerstick...vape something with EM sweetener for an hour...fingerstick.

It will give you some idea, at least, of what EM does to YOU. Different bodies respond differently to different things. I get a terrible migraine when I use aspartame. Some people it does not bother.

I was 156 this morning and had a 2 cups of coffee this morning and fasted the entire morning but still vaping. Finger ..... 135 by lunch. Skipping lunch and still vaping and will see what the levels are by dinner time. So it can't be the vape.

Yesterday morning 145 had 2 cups of coffee (Milk, never sweetner) no breakfast and before lunch 151 .... Ate BLT/toasted rye no mayo, 1/4 cup cole slaw diet coke 1 hour after lunch 146. Dinner brioled chicken, salid w/lite vinegarette, green beans salted. 1 hour later 140. Drank bottled water all evening no snacks 1am bedtime 158 what the ... is going on. I admit I chain vape but that should'nt influnce it that much.

I'm diabetic as well. My doctor is jumping for joy that I am vaping and not smoking. Matter of fact he thinks it is cool to vape in his waiting room and get the hairy eyeballs from all the old ladies. Seriously, we talked about it and he feels that any negative impact is negligible compared to smoking.

Skipping meals is bad for a diabitic. It can cause your body to dump gluctose because your sugar goes to low then causing high gluctose readings.

I haven't talked to my doctor yet because the last time I saw him I was still fully on analogs and had no intention of quitting. I imagine I will get a similure responce when I discuss it with him next week.

Exactly. I was about to tell you the same thing. A "normal" body when the blood sugar gets too low, the liver will, very obligingly, dump glucose into the system.
My doctor has SEVERAL times (read "every fu....in' time I see her) told me that it's imperative that I have a light, but glucose containing, snack about 1 1/2 hours before bed, otherwise my blood sugar level will rise too high during the night.

Kinda counter-intuitive, but true.

Eat small meals, breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. (my snacks are 100 cal or less and contain whole grains for slow release)
If you just can't possibly eat, a half bottle of glucerna is kinda gross tasting but bearable Except chocolate Unbearable. And I'm a chocolate lover). Save the other half for the next snacktime. (I actually like "boost" brand taste better and it's cheaper. Just get the "glucose control" type and not the "high protein")

You'll be very surprised how much better you feel.

Exactly, and I think thats what I'm seeing. I do notice when I eat before bed my sugars are lower in the morning. I must admit due to some major stresses at work in the past few weeks my schedual has been way off and I found myself on many occasions working through lunch and then on a few nights I've come home so fustrated from the workday that I would skip dinner or eat way past my normal dinner time. This I'm sure is contributing to the problems I'm having now.

I'm glad I started this thread if for nothing else to get some very good advice and give me some reminders to get myself back on track.

Thank you everyone.
