Same large swings in sugar. The mornings are the highest at 175 then 45 minutes after eating lunch 115. Still need to get a handle on this. Seeing the doctor today.

I suffer from the "pre-dawn" highs....just the way it is with me. My Endo had me on one of those continuous glucose monitors to figure it out. Just one of those things. I usually wake up a couple times a night and check my blood sugar and eat or bolus as needed. Waking at 250 isn't uncommon and yet today I was an even 100 when i got up.....go figure. Mom use to wake dad at midnight, 2:00 and 4:00 every night to check. In a 2 hour period he could drop from 200 to 50 while sleeping. Or it could go the other way. I've got a touch of that but not to that extreme.

Do the best you can and take some small solace knowing you're not alone. It could be worse. I know a 3 year old little girl that has a worse case than me....her poor parents have it tough. Pop in and vent when you need to.....it helps.

I have Type-2 diabetes. No one else in my family has diabetes. Plus, I'm not insulin-dependent. That makes it easy to "forget" about my diabetes and to slack off and not take proper care of myself. Which is exactly what I've been doing for quite some time. I don't even know what my blood glucose levels are. I never even check them anymore.

After reading this, I think I need to be part of a group like this. I need the reminder that my diabetes is real and not just some vague, unreal concept. Besides, it's nice to know that I'm not alone.

The thing is before I quit smoking and started vaping I used to be so regular. Any time of day or night I was always a constant 105 - 125 now I'm all over the place. This concerns me. I do contribute it to quitting smoking and letting my diet go a bit. But now I find it so hard to get back on track but I'm trying.

I also am type 2 and in the same boat as you and I've had the experiences you are having now. A word of caution, Just because you feel OK does not mean you are OK. Type 2 is tricky meaning you could feel fine until you don't. It will sneak up on you all of a sudden and you will start to see symtoms such as unquenchable thurst and drastic weight loss. At that point your in serious trouble of diabetic shock or worst. Please do yourself a favor and check your sugar levels and monitor them regularly. If they are high see your doctor at once. It's happened to me. I felt fine one day then all of a sudden had drastic weight loss of 40lbs over a 2 week period and an unquenchable thurst. My sugar levels were through the roof (over 500). I went to the doctor and he wanted to put me in the hospital. Please don't let it get to that.

I gather your on oral medication such as acto met plus or met formin. You need to keep up with your meds. Consider your self fortunate that you are not insulli dependant. That is hell on earth.

Try eating Shredded Wheat it has whole wheat and very little sugar most of the cereals have a lot of sugar.

I did'nt think the original special k had much sugar. I have to start reading packaging again. I havent had shredded wheat in ages. I used to love it. Think I'm going to try it once again.

Ignoring Diabetes is not good leads to loss of limbs and blindness.
I've always had poor circulation in my legs, way before I became diabetic. But, I also naturally heal fast, so far. My eyes are a different story. Nowhere near blind or anything, but definitely affected. And, with my naturally poor circulation, who knows?

When I first found out I was diabetic, I worked really hard on my diet. I got so good at it that I lost 100 pounds and had to stop taking Metformin because my blood sugar was getting too low.

Then I moved in with my daughter and her 3 boys. A small, crowded kitchen filled with food for kids. I've never been much good in a kitchen to start with. I generally see a cluttered kitchen and just want to walk away.

When I was younger, I could easily go days or even weeks without eating. But, now I HAVE to eat! I no longer have a choice. So, I HAVE to prepare the right foods and have stuff available to eat. I have to. But, I don't. My problem with eating poorly isn't that I want to eat bad stuff so much that I want to just open a can or a package or grab leftovers that happen to be laying around.

It was easy when I had a big kitchen to work with because I could always find space to work with and make it a peaceful, meditative kind of experience. To quietly, all by myself chop vegetables and cook and such.

I know. No excuses. My body doesn't care about excuses!

This is the best advice I can give you. Check your blood sugar and get yourself to a doctor fast.
Ok, ok, you're right. I'll see if I can dig up my kit. But, my blood sugar has never, ever tested anywhere nearly as high as yours has. High enough to cause long-term damage, yes. I'm not worried about anything else at this point.

But, this thread did inspire me to go to the kitchen and start preparing some good, healthy, low-carb food for myself.

I think I'm more scared than I consciously realize because every time I look at this thread I start to cry.

Hang in there Dancing. There are worse things than being diabetic. It's no fun but doesn't mean you can't live a normal life.
Sure...changes in eating habits, counting carbs, etc....but it is what it is and you just need to do what is best for you. I'll be thinking about you and sending good betic karma your way.
