I'm from a small town. I haven't seen anyone else vape anywhere. So, at times, I feel a little awkward and don't always feel like stopping and explaining what I am doing to people.

On the other hand, The word about e-cigs needs to get out. I think they are a wonderful alternative and wish more people would try it.

The message I would like to portray is that e-smokers are a considerate lot. That means, I don't vape anywhere where anyone could even smell my vapor. I will puff openly outdoors, but not at my children's school events. I will puff in a store, if I am alone in the aisle or at least far away from another customer.

Embarrassed isn't what I would call it. Respectful is more like it. :vapor:

eGo 650 Twist and 510 excalibur clearos, I act and behave exactly as if I'm smoking, and I think that when people see that they figure that's what I'm doing. Having said that, I've seen a few backward glances when they walk past braced for the pretty unpleasant tobacco smoke smell and are surprised there isn't any. Volcano has engaged in an advertising campaign in Hawaii around local evening news timespots so that alone has educated several folks. (and the ad is hilarious if anyone wants to check it out ... http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/volcano-ecigs/302082-volcanoecigs-fun-videos-pictures.html If someone asks what it is, I tell them it's my quit stick. Several people have asked me about it. Others just go about their business. I'm generally a 100% VG inhaler myself, so that's a bit too much vapor to puff away inside supermarkets etc. I did vape on the plane very discreetly but most of the time went to the restroom and then blew it down my t-shirt (didn't want that smoke alarm going off!)

That brings up a question would the vapor even set off a smoke alarm ?Never even thought about that before.

I agree...I actually had a smoker get in my face at an outdoor event once, telling me at least he has the cajones to choose his death. Right on dude, you go on with your bad self. I just don't understand why he was so mad at me for vaping...I wasn't offering it to him or blowing vapor in his face...or even talking to him about it. I didn't even know the guy...he just came right up to me, completely hostile, and blowing smoke everywhere. (in more ways than one)

Not embarrassed, I just don't vape where smoking is prohibited. Restaurants, bars, shopping meh, I used to go out to smoke I can live with doing it to vape. I can manage to not vape for an hour or so, it isn't the end of the world. As far as out n about, I used to be self concious about it, you don't see many out in the wild here, but lately I don't really concern myself with what other folks think I'm doing.

"Rhapsodies Fire : People like that are a blast. Good on him for choosing how he wants to die, you are choosing how you don't want to die. I've noticed that smokers are getting quite defensive about it, like they're being persecuted or treated unfairly in some way. Let it slide, have a vape, and lifes too short to get caught up in some strangers drama.

Not embarrassed to Vape at all, if anything I almost feel proud that it is a positive step to staying smoke free. I have a few looks in public but no-one has ever questioned me. If they did I would be happy to explain. The smoking ban in the U.K. Has meant that I hadn't smoked in buildings for years so as a habit I will go outside anyway. With regards to airports, cinema's etc. I didn't smoke there so not vaping there eon't kill me anyway.

I live in NJ, there is no place indoors where you can vape (except cigar stores & certain areas in casinos.) No vaping anywhere they don't allow smoking, period. But, I vape on my Provari or LT in public anywhere I'm allowed by law. I don't try to hide behind a smallish ecig. I proudly pull out my big APV & vape away on it. I'm not doing anything illegal & I'm sure as heck not embarassed by my APV's. I'll answer anyone's questions as long as I have time. If I don't have time (and even if I do!) I steer them to ECF.

I agree...and didn't give it much more thought other than feeling sorry for the guy and his skewed logic. It was just one of those moments that caught me off guard at the time, just like any other moment when someone gets in my face about anything. I'm one of those who doesn't look for confrontation and can usually talk the aggressor down to a point where there is actually a conversation happening. But this guy was something else. Maybe he had a fight with his wife and I looked like her....lol. You never know what will set a person off.

I am not embarrassed of vaping in public. And at the same time I am selective of where I vape. Those who question what I am doing are the ones I love to explain the purpose of my using an electronic cigarette. Most people are fascinated and have wished me the best of luck; I was even able to convince one smoker to check out the ECF and the use of PVs.

I believe in trying things once and if people react negatively I will stop. There are so many places to vape that I don't feel the need to force my actions on anyone else.

Cheers and Happy Vaping!

Great thread BTW!

I use it just about anywhere.... with one exception. I don't use it anywhere I would be distracted by a cloud of vapor or find it disrespectful. During a wedding ceremony? NO Before it begins, and after, fine. During a funeral? No. Inside the entrance at a wake (but not in the receiving line) sure. Planetarium, movies, concerts, stealth if my cloud would be in someone's line of sight or don't do it. At the conference room table during sales meetings, no. In the break room, sure. At my cubicle, I turn on a small desk fan so there isn't a cumulus cloud over my desk. (I probably don't NEED to do that, but it makes me feel better because anyone that could complain probably has no idea I'm doing. Some of the management has seen it and thinks it's cool, but I'm keeping it low key in the production area so that I can continue to do it.)

Ever since the statewide smoking ban took effect in Indiana on July 1, many indoor establishments (even those already smoke-free) have been actually pretty on the edge regarding e-cigs. Prior to July 1, I didn't have ONE person say anything about me vaping indoors in Indiana (and I vaped in basically every restaurant in town, including the shopping mall). Within minutes of me starting to vape after July 1, I had an employee at an ADULT club ask another employee if I could vape inside. Of course, he said yes.
