If someone you knew desired to try eCigs, would you encourage it or discourage it (strongly caution them using it)?

Now, before you respond with, 'it depends' - what I'm wondering about is the type of person who is (all of the following):
a) over 18 years old
b) has never smoked in their lives
c) has yet to try vaping
d) would prefer to have at least some nicotine in their vape

Would you encourage that person or be more likely to discourage them?

I'm most interested in replies from those who would discourage them and why.

Discourage. There's no need to begin an addiction if you don't have to, and if you can avoid it, so much the better. Personally, I rather wish I'd never started with caffeine, either, for exactly the same reason.

With cigs, the health issues are paramount. With vaping, I'd stress the dependency more.

If said person is trying to self-medicate an issue, a visit to the doctor is better.

All that having been said, an 18 year old or older is an adult and can do what they wish to. If they start vaping--or didn't ask my opinion specifically--they'd never hear a word from me. If they'd started smoking, I'd be pushing the vape hard. :)

for someone not having previously smoked, not recommended with nicotine. I dont see any reason they would want it beyond the "cool factor."
Especially at zero nic i still don't see a point, beyond the cool factor. we all here started vaping to get off the stinkies, it has for many become a hobby to completely replace the stinkies.

vaping at this point really wont do anything for someone who has never smoked. I doubt anyone here could give you a concise reason for vaping without previous smoking. There are no proven health benefits to just vaping flavored e juice, with or without nicotine. Yes there are some mental benefits to nicotine but again, why?

If they wanted to vape 0 nicotine? Up to them really.

But for the life of me I wouldn't know why they'd want to.

I'm an addict and can't quit smoking so it's worth it to me to fiddle and fool with batteries, charging, coils, cartos, unvapable liquid and the whole deal so I don't smoke cigarettes. Why someone would want to put up with the time and expense of doing that is a little beyond me.

I vape because after nearly 60 years of smoking I'm totally dependent upon having nicotine in my system, and believe me, you would not want to be anywhere near me if I was without nicotine in my system. You can also believe me when I say that I wish that wasn't so.

I can think of no reason why I would ever want to encourage a non smoker to try e-cigs.

I'd encourage vaping because I think of vaping as enjoyable and the potential addiction as rather harmless.
I believe I would add in some word of caution about nicotine as an addictive substance and perhaps have discussion around that.
But as I am one who tends to enjoy vaping for a few reasons beyond mere addiction, I'd not hesitate much to encourage one who is of legal age and earnestly interested in trying it for themselves.

I can see why a significant other who sees a vaper enjoying the flavors and the hobby aspect and sighing in satisfaction might want to try it with zero nic, but I wouldn't encourage it. I wouldn't encourage my husband to start it as a hobby just to have something to do together. That's how I started smoking in the first place. I had never tried a cig and thought they were disgusting, but we were engaged and he was always smoking and one night while drinking, I asked to try one. Thirty years later, he had quit decades ago and I was still smoking.

I especially wouldn't encourage someone to start vaping with nic if they have never smoked.

Ask yourself this: what would I say to this person if it were my child.

you lost me...how can nicotine be rather harmless and yet you need to have a discussion with them about it? if something is harmless then its harmless no discussion needed. That would be like saying nukes are rather harmless, unless they explode, and then there is the whole radiation thing... Nicotine can in face be very harmful, "pure nic" is lethal. The ejuice at the level we vape not so much, but getting it in your mouth un-vaporized can cause mouth sores and other problems. Ever smoke too many cigarettes and get nauseous or a headache? those are the early stages of nicotine poisoning there... that is all beyond the whole addiction factor. Some people when weaned off nicotine become violent or severely depressed. That's why it is so hard to quit cigarettes, and likely why so many people die from chantix, but that is a whole other ball of string.

I'd encourage vaping because I think of vaping as enjoyable and the potential addiction as rather harmless.

A person is still your child even if they are over 18. Would you want someone to get your 18+ year old son or daughter started vaping if they had never smoked? I have four daughters over 18 and I wouldn't.

Hypothetically, you're 72 years old and your 50 year old (non-smoking) child has earnest desire to try vaping nicotine. You would discourage this?
I believe you have already answered clearly, but just double-checking.

No matter the age of my child, if i had kids that is, and they came to me asking my opinion i would give it. if i had personal expirence with what they wanted i wold share that with them and let them make their own choice...BUT seeing as we are talking about addictive drugs like nicotine i would seriously wonder why my child who has lived 50 years without any nicotine suddenly needs it.
