Jimi Mack, I'm 99.999 percent sure that this "bottom button Protege" is going to be a brand new device -- the next gen Protege (or whatever it ends up being named) instead of an upgrade to existing Proteges.

What I'm hoping for (and am ready to buy the minute they go up for preorder) is a Protege-sized V3 (think V3's little brother) that takes 14500 batteries.

I will be waiting. Lost my Protege a few weeks ago at Doheny Blues Festival and did not want something as big as the V3 or a side switched Protege again. I loved that PV but the button issue was never resolved for me.

Looks good for the bottom switched Protege and I will order when they go on sale. Have gotten several other devices, but I want the form factor that the 14500 provides and with the bottom switch it seems that it will be a terrific device.

Really loved everything about that Protege except the darn switch.

Prototypes are done, and testing is underway. Should know more on final production release within the next 4-5 bus days, and we can open preordering from there.

Fantastic! Something to look forward to from an otherwise sucky day.

I'm ready to place a pre order in my cart as soon as you give the word. My Protege still works fine, but I love the button/switch on the V3 too much to not have it in a smaller form factor for on-the-go use.

yup... bought the v3 out of impulse after messing with my protege switch too much, and I love it with the 17670... I thought the bottom button would be an issue but it is the thing I love the most about v3. The only problem is that I put together a pretty sweet "togo" package for my protege and the v3 just isn't as portable... I will be preordering 2 protege v2's when they are up for presale as I have finally got my wife hooked on my old protege and off of the generic 808 batts...
